Title: I've always loved Ratt... Stephen Pearcy's sister died suddenly ~ sad
Post by: dyslexic on March 30, 2014, 12:28:41 PM
Especially as a guitarist, Warren Di Martini has always been one of my idols.

Stephen Pearcy? Mmmmmm... not so much, but he did fit the band and they did have quite a number of hits.

I wonder how old his sister was? The internet doesn't say...

Been a MONSTER fan since Out of the Cellar was released way, way back.

I even own both his and Blotz's (drummer) autobiographies.

Pearcy is a shit singer, technically, but I really dig his voice and style. And he isn't some slouch in the songwriting department, that's for sure.

Ratt is his band, when all is said and done. It really is.

As a fan, I am SO happy the group retains, at least at present, four of the original (well, classic line-up original) members. Juan coming back (for more) really made me smile.

Warren is one of my all-time faves, as well. I mean, just listen to his playing on the debut. Holy shit. And although his approach and sound/tone have changed somewhat over the years, he's incredibly gifted and still fantastic.

Old fan here as well. Favorite band in high school; in fact, their EP was the first cassette I ever owned. Saw them at least once every tour until they broke up in the early 90s. When Michael Schenker replaced Crosby at a gig in Irvine, we knew they were circling the drain.

I also liked Arcade's first record, but never cared for any of Pearcy's subsequent bands.

Years later, saw them again in Hollywood on the reunion tour, and they still sounded pretty good, especially Warren. No more concerts for me, but I was very pleasantly surprised by most of "Infestation," their last record. Several killer tracks. Studio magic even made Pearcy's waning voice sound like vintage Ratt.

The first RATT cassette I got was a free one, as part of the Columbia House records and tapes club.    You know, the deal where you get 11 free albums cassettes for a penny if you agree to purchase 8 more later at regular price.

Thanks Mike! I was born in 81, so I was a little too young to appreciate hair metal back then.

It is a great genre. Why does it seem like the guitar solo is a lost art these days?

IF you saw the behind the music on them they were dual guitarists and waren took center by 2nd and 3rd albums which kinda killed Crosby in terms of band contribution and booze/drugs,dude stood out'crosby'large compared to the smaller guys, but he did that whole stand there point to crowd thing instead of playing .

Music now is complete shit! No musicianship, talent, everything is overdubbed, auto tuned shit! 80's were a great time for Guitar driven Rock, Metal, Hard Rock what have you! Lot's of great talent especially Guitar!

thing is this in around 89/90 metal bands/hard rock were stuck ,too many, less talented than EARLY TO MID 80'S BANDS,then came nirvana/SOUNDGARDEN,ALICE AND CHAINS,NIRVANA AND IT WAS OVER FOR METAL.but some of the music from that era alt rock got dated as well

Uh ... NO.

Reb Beach (Winger) replaced Lynch in Dokken for a short stint (one album) and now retains a side gig in Whitesnake while making Winger records once again. Ozzy? Again, NO. Lynch played one or two shows with Ozzy but was never hired; Jake E. Lee got the gig.

There is LOTS of musical talent in hard rock and metal these days. I keep current with new and newer bands, unlike most former fans (oh brother). The skillset today is unreal.

Yeah, man, a whole brand of rock/music just disappeared from the face of the planet.  ::)

There is every style and substyle of hard rock and metal still in existence.

Hell, I just received in the mail the new KXM debut, featuring Dug Pinnick, Lynch and Luzier. Shit's always being made. I buy, on average, two or three new CDs each and every week ... hard rock, metal, death metal, whatever ...

Well I dont know where to look. I really like 80's hair metal. I also can appreciate bands like Linkin Park, Marilyn Manson, and Rob Zombie etc....

I like individual songs regardless. It does not matter who makes them.

These guys are pretty straightforward rock. Similar to Crue etc.

Brad Gillis recorded a live album with Ozzy, man (Speak of the Devil)! And at this time Night Ranger was already formed. He was invited to join Ozzy's band, full-time, but declined ... so he could push the Night Ranger group. He said he wanted to make a run at it with his own band.

P.S. I made a mistake, I believe: Warren DiMartini did play with Whitesnake for a few shows, me thinks.

P.P.S. Gillis is a MONSTER player and on my top-10 list of all time.

Totally. Brad's a beast and Ozzy to this day applauds his quick cop to the gig and helping him out.

I own both Brad's solos CDs as well as all the Night Ranger albums. Him and Jeff Watson (the VIBRATO!) were a killer team. NR's now-second guitarist, Joel Hoekstra, is also terrific, alongside Brad.

Watson's got a new project in the works, too! Instant buy.

Instant buy.
to be honest i hated watson ,maybe his goofy look,i don't know i like brads sound better, and that shared solo thing had to be equally doled out to get both in ,wasn't my cup of tea.

Sorry (lol!) just enjoyed the whole "80's" music scene (tremendously) ,played a lil guitar/banged a few whores (not a "super-fan" spouting off statistics and the life history of anyone) I do appreciate the posting of the RAtt video (bought/downloaded the album, love it!)

"Don't need nothin', but a good time
 How can I resist
Ain't lookin' for nothin', but a good time
And it don't get better than this"

2 be perfectly honest....im surprised I can even remember who Ratt is! (the 80's were a stupor of alcohol/drugs and excess)

Never liked 80s rock. The guys seemed like posers compared to the 70s acts. "Round and Round" while a good song, is no "Boys are Back in Town."

That said, this is a cool 80s rock song:

&sns=em

Arvilla's hair, back then, was pretty impressive, as well. ;D

Bands like Motley Crue, Poison and Warrant got a lot of attention among the "hair bands" from the 80s.

But musically, Dokken and Ratt were the best.

Like 'em or lump the, the members of Winger are ultra-talented musicians and instrumentalists.

I mean ... Beach, Winger, Morgenstein, Roth ... !

These cats are MONSTER players.

Cinderella's Night Songs was actually a solid album musically start to finish. They never really did much after that, though.

Just read this news a few hours ago.  >:(

WHY can't these guys get it together and figure out their personality conflicts?! They're middle-aged men, for fuck sakes!

If he is gone, and they can't sort it out, I do hope the remaining members retire the name, instead of hiring another fill-in vocalist.

So we FINALLY get four of the five remaining original members (the fifth is dead, of course) back together and ... Stephen decides to once again bail.

This is so bloody a piss off.

Any musician who's been in bands long enough knows all too well the band drama that ensues. I quit playing music professionally in the 90's due to idiot musicians. Booze, drugs, egos, laziness, you name it. I've said this for over 20 years, but rock musicians are fucking flakes.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

That's like asking "Why can't that married couple just get along? They've been married for twenty years!"

You spend more time in close quarters with your band mates than you do your own GF. There are going to be personality conflicts. The traveling and tour dates arent months apart, they are just days apart and you are up eachothers asses the whole time. You get to where you want to kill someone just for being who they are, and vice versa.

Band conflict is ubiquitous in ALL bands that have made it to the "big-time" ~ there is really no way to get around it, unless you want to get separate leer jets (can you say Rolling Stones) and do all of recording separately, like Rush....

Having your privacy invaded is one thing....it can be tolerated for a week or two, but daily? For years on end? ....

This is the reason a lot of great musicians would rather just teach and do studio sessions rather than get out on the road and travel.

I'm tempted to back to writing instrumental material again and just promote it via the net. Current band members drink too much, don't write and fight tooth and nail to not learn any new material.

I don't think Stephen and Bobby have ever gotten along, but Pearcy is often shitty to fans as well. I'm with you, retire the name. Pearcy's voice is Ratt as much as anything. We've got enough of their stuff for a lifetime.

Bloody 'ell.

Stephen, just quit or stay on and record with the band in a proper manner. Contractual obligation? Boy, that sounds like a real inspiring situation.

 ::)

I own both Bobby's and Stephen's books and at this point I am thinking Blotz is the main problem. Something just tells me.

Juan must be thinking, Didn't I quit the band 20 years ago because of this horseshit?!

Pearcy is a talented dude, despite his vocals being completely shot (and regardless, his IS the voice of Ratt). But he does contribute much more than just the occasional word. Still, after all these years, I am quite sure the classic Ratt material owes mostly to Juan and Robbin.

It is Stephen's band, but Crosby was its heart and soul, with Warren providing the exacting and spectacular solo ammunition (and some truly stellar riffs) and Blotz being the underrated and powerful (and sometimes deceptively complicated drummer). Juan is the guy who is the level head and talented songwriter, along with Robbin.

It pains me to say, but after being a HUGE Ratt fan since Out of the Cellar was released, it's time to pack it in, boys.

 :(
