Long video, but pretty cool. PLATZ is still in great shape, very outspoken and smart guy.

good video.. thanks, watching it now!
is it me or does Tom look & sounds like a character from a game?

What Europe said, good video and thanks.
An old quote from Max_Rep regarding Platz:
I've seen Dorian's video... his intensity does not come close to Platz. I've seen Ronnies video ans seen him train once (off-season) his intesity does not com close to Platz. I've trained with Ray and Mike Mentzer... their intensity does not come close to Platz. At least once or twice Pro's would stop watch Tom do a set and walk away shaking their head. Tom was a freak... Tom thrived on pain. Let's take hacks. Eacg rep he would touch his knees to the floor in front of him. He do a set to failure. Then partials... until he couldn't budge the shoulder pads... Then he'd press the weight up with his arms and shoulders and stand up into the machine and do negatives down. when he couldn't go any further. He's stretch at the botton and then finally he'd collapse like a dead fish.
The guy was f*cking possessed. I'd train with ANYONE. Anyone except him. F*ck that. I'd rather go to the dentist and have him drill a hole in my skull.

well Hoffman could use some help with his legs. Not that they are small but in proportion to his upperbody they are.
-
Ok, there's no doubt that Platz had great legs but this guy sounds like a kook...
-
Absolutely brilliant video, you can still see the passion Tom has got for training. Now thats what i call personal training, talking about the emotion, the feelings, the mind set you get into before you train legs.

sort of sometimes but you notice he has alot of passion for training. and alot of wisdom and knowlage

Platz could sell snow to eskimos.
-
That big German seems like a nice fella. Could use more of him in bodybuilding instead of guys like Phil Queef and gay stripper Kai Grapefruit
-
Tom Platz still has a callus on his back from the squat bar to this day. Took hard work in the gym to a new level.
-
Very inspirational. Thx for posting this.

platz knows leg training like no other..he's right about hacks/squats being the bread and butter at least in forming the legs/mass/strenght initially.

And he's 100% right. Not just initially either... all the time.
It's a shame how many people on this forum are too lazy/afraid to do hard squat workouts. They'll make up hundreds of excuses why they can't do them and wonder why their legs look like pipe cleaners.

used to see flex squat all the time. Strong n great form.
This vid is classic. Possibly best training advice in the net. Tom should be wealthy. He needs to somehow market his training.

Maybe he doesn't give a shit, and the sun, the beach and a squat bar is all he needs for being happy. :)

Franco's right nipple is eyeing Platz and is obviously in awe.

I saw Tom Platz at the Olympia in 1980. He was popular there but no where near the top that day...except for his amazing legs. That brought the house down when he posed them. A year later and he was robbed of the Olympia by a sub standard Franco. Who would have thought it was possible? Tom Platz the uncrowned Mr Olympia.
Well, I watched the video and a light went on for me. I once did 10 deep reps in the full squat with 400 pounds. I also did 8 reps with 410 pounds. Squats didn't deliver on making my legs much bigger. Now I can see why they failed me. I was doing them like Tom demonstrated NOT to do them. You know, leaning forward. So my quads never got much mechanical tension and so they never grew no matter how much weight I was using. A good lesson there for all of us.
I learned something new after 56 years of training. I should have had special shoes. Oh, I always put my heels on a low block, perhaps 1 1/2 inches high. Tom stresses how doing squats is the alter for bodybuilders and we should approach them with the right frame of mind. To get into that frame of mind we have to wear the right shoes and wear a loose fitting belt. He even suggested wearing high socks to trick the mind into thinking we are shorter and thus the up and down piston action will deliver if we do everything right. I wasn't training my quads but lower back and other muscles used in a variation of a good morning movement. I highly recommend that others listen closely to what Tom says. He is revealing his secrets and to be honest I had never heard about his secrets and I can see now that he knew a lot about building muscles. It is so easy to dismiss the idea that there are secrets in bodybuilding because after many, many years in the gym we all figure there is hardly anything new to learn.

Tom has been training the German at Iron Bodies in Santa Ana, lately. I was lucky enough to meet him last Sat. Gym was closing early and I had to get my leg workout in so I wasn't able to speak with him long. Nice guy, very smart, personable. Can't say a bad thing about him. No longer huge- but who gives a fuck?
-
Yesterday was squats day.
I usually do it as deep as i can but following some of the Golden Eagle tips i was able to go even deeper with a more upright posture. Some kids approched me and said: "You are doing it wrong, you shouldn't go beyond parallel" ::)
It's not their fault, it's how the personal trainer tells them to do.
