Title: Not bad.
Post by: Simple Simon on June 28, 2014, 01:15:15 PM
Is it enough to settle for looking "Not bad" , "Good for my age"?
I came to this forum 25th July 2012 just after my 47th birthday with a mindset of "Well I look good for 47"
I posted pics, got into some 'debates' ;D and during this time my mindset changed.
I went from being happy to look good for 47 to wanting to look good for any age.

The kick up the arse I received from Gal and no one (shout out to OTH as well) really opened my eyes as to what you can do with a little determination and will power.
I have opened my mind to new ideas and have learned so much about myself in the last 2 years physique wise.
Good for 47 maybe, good full stop, no , far from it.
This is my now my normal everyday look.

simon you look really awesome. Especially for a hundred a seven year old...  ;D

No really, older people like you who are in great shape inspire me to not to quit and keep the lifting lifestyle. Getting better is a life journey  8)

As for settling to 'prety good for a 47 year old' I can understand that, but if you are already looking like that I know you have more in you, nothing's stopping you!

I didn't start this thread for an ego boost and compliments although they are humbling.

Its to try and motivate others to do what I did, dont settle for looking anything less than your best.

I started in 87 and stopped in 96, I did a bit of something (boxing, Thai boxing) up until 2011 when I started training and eating properly again.

How did you do it, if you don't mind me asking? Training, & nutrition wise? Genuine interest here. I love success stories...so much to learn if the teacher is willing to share.
Consistency
I was sporadic with diet and training in my time off between competing.
Its just doing the same things over and over.
Boring I know but thats it really

very nice!

so you started at 20, stopped at 29, and started again at 41, meaning you had a 6 year lay off from weightlifting in between, and you've been training for 18 years in total, from which 12 years has been weightlifting

that's solid, bruh! And you know how to throw a punch most probably. Boss  8)

Got it.

Anything special in the gym then? Or standard bb'ing split?

Do you do cardio every day? Or not at all?

Diet-wise...are you a 6 meal/day guy, or eat whatever guy, or in between?

Hope you don't mind the questions. Success leaves clues.

Moderate poundages and higher reps
Train with power bands for around 70% of my workouts
Never do cardio in the gym but walk every day with the dogs
Diet wise, I eat maybe 5 times a day but I dont eat a lot in a sitting
Dont eat much between meals if at all.
Typical protein carb fat split is around 40/40/20
Dieting now I just eat the same but drop carbs.

I'm going to buy these in the near future, better to enjoy training forever than to act cool lifting 'raw' and be hulk hogan when you're... 49...  :D

Looking fucking impressive for any age Jeff....big props buddy!

On a sidenote, though I`ve been slacking as of late,I found that eating clean Mon.+ Tues, moderate cheat meal on Wed.,clean again Thurs.,Fri.,and Sat.,then a full blown all out cheat day on Sun.,allowed me to stay between 6-7 % BF for almost 2 years.

No excuse to be sloppy or to lose sight of why you started training in the first place.

I'm only 30 but hardly trained or eaten right for over a month, holiday plus a lot of stress and being busy. Missing that spark  :-\

Always train with gf but her dad died and she had to fly back to Brazil while I am stuck looking after a problem child while my parents are on holiday. Ugh.

I haven`t trained in weeks now....in a serious rut.

Haven`t missed workouts in years except a few days here and there for certain reasons.

The last time I missed this much training time,I was a full blown drunken idiot,as opposed to the sober idiot I am today.   ;D

I know I`ll get back in there soon though........lifestyle for me.

Sorry about your girls dad bro.......my condolences.

I only met her dad twice, they weren't too close, I won't go into it here, but he liked me so that's a positive. Just worried about when her mom goes, they are so close. GF was given 7 daI've had big issues with depression (some self made with substances) but I always had training as a constant. I remember going training with bandaged wrists and saying "fuck it, training legs won't open it up". I'm missing that drive now but maybe some time off is what I need.
