Looking for some good movies to watch.
Not hollywood shit either, something that has a descent idea behind it. No kids movies, or movies a chick would like.
-
Descent?... try "Das Boat"

Lol one of the greatest films ever made, I wanted something like the godfather, I think I might try watch The Leopard, apparently the style of the movie is what Scorsese copied.
-
I liked Calvary. Brendan Gleeson really carried it.
-
Anderson's latest Grand Budapest Hotel was grand. Strictly for Wes Anderson fans, tho, so don't come cryin to me if you don't like it.
F. Murray Abraham delivers a fuckng awesome matter-of-fact "I didn't." SF1900 will catch this allusion the minute it goes down.

jeff nichols' SHOTGUN STORIES, TAKE SHELTER, MUD
DEAD MAN'S SHOES

I saw Midnight Cowboy yesterday. Great great movie with a lingering soundtrack.
I find that you should either watch classic movies or recommended foreign films to get quality.
Contemporary movies are shit, have to watch 25 to get a good one in there.
Grand Buda is unique and with a classic feel.
I need some tips myself.. Please

Captain Philips and 12 years as a slave two of the best movies of 2013.

Agreed its really easy to feel intelligent when you see some of the films people like.
Seriously most people seem to stop developing their taste in movies by like the age of 15.

For the best. I spent the last 1/3 waiting for Wilson to come floating by.

I know exactly how that feels yep.
Good movies are between mainstream and obscure. Different but good enough to make it big anyway.
In Hollywood, oftentimes where good actors "break through" are a good stop for a viewing.

Yeah I'm going through IMDB and my god there are some stupid motherfuckers floating around.
Best movie ever lists, with no mention of the Godfather?
Anyways I'm trying hard to find movies about intelligent and ambitious people any ideas?

I Come With the Rain
The Big Blue
The Jacket
Never Let Me Go
Sinister
All kind of non mainstream and obscure, didn't do well at the box office so not to all tastes.

The Feast of the Goat

i'd like recommenced this yt channel. couple of film nerds give commentary over horror film trailer compilations from a particular year. they can be quite funny and scathing at times and even say some rude words
videos
another i like, from one of the chaps above actually.
his rants are hilarious when he doesn't like a film. i think he may be mentally ill.. he hated the robocop remake!
-
I Saw The Devil. Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. Both Korean. Both really good.

Lately, I've gone through a lot of older film noir - White Heat, Asphalt Jungle, The Big Combo, and a few others.
I also ran through the 90's Tv show, "Homicide: LOTS" . Still a great show, makes me wish we had channels like Fx back then that would've let them get away white more. You can definitely see hints of The Wire and The Corner in it.
-
you could try and watch all of the previously banned (uk), 'VIDEO NASTIES'

Its very good, but dont expect anything mind blowing.
A late Quartet is really good too, that is if you find the lives of four highly competitive musicians interesting.
