Title: Hip surgery rehab dear diary
Post by: Mawse on July 28, 2014, 11:59:10 AM
Following Sev and Borat's Simple Simon's example I'm going to spend the next month stripping off some lard. I have elective hip surgery in exactly a month so I'd like to be as trim as possible to deal with the recovery and hopefully it won't have me out the gym for too long.

I look like a bag of smashed Shizzos right now so I wont be posting any before pics - weighed in at 245 last time I stepped on the scales and the abs are currently hiding under too many large pizzas :-\ I'll be logging my food and workouts like anyone gives a fuck but it should keep me accountable.

Diet

Breakfast - Rockstar lemonade (6g's carbs - the magic number for preworkout according to Lyle McD)

I had a Last Supper last night so I didn't need anything more.

In the gym at 7 with the missus , she always goes in the AM and I figure I can join her.

DB inclines, paused, slow reps not locking out. (All weights in American since I live here now)

90 x 6, 110 x 8, 90 x 13

One arm DB flat

75 x 8,8,8, 90 x 9

Decline Cable press one arm, 3 x 12

Pushdowns 6 x 20, laterals 6 x 20

Lunch will be 9oz of turkey, some feta and spinach and broccoli + garlic sauce

Dinner will be a big bowl of beef soup with veggies.

very true - if you push unilateral work too hard it can really ruin your day.. but I'm using about 50% of my max working weight on those one arm presses and taking 6+ seconds to slowly lower, pause and squeeze up each rep, its not a weight that's going to flip me off the bench or drop on my face.

For one arm DB floor presses (one of my mainstay pressing exercises) I do go a lot heavier, those I have to force myself not to go to failure otherwise indeed you can mess yourself up by dropping the DB on yourself when the stabilizers suddenly short out at the end of a set

I wouldn't let no-one rate me at my best much less now, it would end with a tear-soaked tub of ben and jerrys  :'(

2nd day no carbs, feeling like absolute shite now but otherwise no hunger to speak of.

Brekkie - bowl of beef and veg soup
lunch - 10oz turkey burgers + spinach
Dinner - Crap little chicken salad at work

Training at the local ghetto gym in the AM is getting very old, I might switch back to lunchtime workouts in my nice office gym where there are no Hebrews trying to out-Alpha each other

DB row 130 x 20 (perfect form on these, controlled reps)
Rack pulls from the knees 495 x 15
Shrugs 135 - 3 x 20
Hammer High row 8 x 8 with rope handles to let me twist my grip in. Last 2 sets to failure, slow squeeze reps
DB curls 8 x 8

Will probably just do weekly updates otherwise this will get as annoying as daily Facebook Food Porn updates

I'm buying a set of 80,90,95,100,105,110,115, 125 gym quality Ivanko DB's for $800 tomorrow which is dirt cheap, will be using my garage whenever possible

Actually,in spite of eating tons of crap, and on zero gear for almost a year, haven`t trained at all in about 2 months (very rare for me to even miss one single workout normally),I don`t look as terrible as I make it out to be,but I just can`t get motivated anymore.

I know I will eventually though.

no, but it would be a quick way of dropping a few pounds  :-\

Rolling three days deep in the diet and now I think I'm mentally used to it. Three meals a day, no 'nibbles' and about 1500 cal.

Strength is starting to take a wee hit but hopefully that will turn around when I add tren

currently on 200 test and 100 mast /100 deca , I'm going to bump that up a bit once my strength really starts taking a tumble + add in another 8m ephedrine pre workout.

Legs, paused front squats 3 x 7 with 275
Light back squats 3 x 8 60 secs rest
Hack squat machine 3 x 8
Hams 8x8
Calfs 8x8

My hips and back make it hard to get a decent leg workout in

Down 7lbs so far since Monday, I know it's all bloat and glycogen but its still nice.

Workouts are getting especially shite, I have zero pump on no-carb no matter what my rep range  :'(

DB Flat presses, slow and with a pause on my chest

105 x 14, 115 x 10, 110 x 8 (no more gas in the tank)

Light incline DB presses and floor presses, laterals and pushdowns for a shit-ton of volume.

Will be cooking up some tren/mast/NPP blended brew tomorrow to add to my HRT to stop me shrinking up to nothing

down to 233 after leg training today, that's 12 down since this time last week

If only it was all fat and not mostly water and undigested food  :'(

Will post pics when I hit 225 again.

3 small meals a day, trace carbs , share a medium pizza with the missus on a Friday night. No cardio yet.

I use both DB, keep one in resting Position while I do 12-15 reps with the other. This way it keeps me somewhat balanced. Then I switch.

Strong as hell, nice to see someone using a solid weight yet not over taxing himself, repping out and dropping all the way to the floor, no shaking no rattling this is how you bodybuild people.

Slowing down, only 227 yesterday , last night was a big cheat of pizza and Chinese so I'll be staying away from scales for a few days

Adding in 30 mins of cardio ED since I only have two weeks to surgery and need to get in gear :-\

Not running tren until after surgery, will be on 200 test and 200 deca and 500 var instead

Front squatted 365 rock bottom with a pause today, not great but ok for in a diet and severely overtrained

I love these too, I do them alternate style tho, one rep right, then left etc.... Have you fellas been doing an entire set one side at a time?

I do them on the floor usually , one arm at a time.

Last workout for a while tonight  :( going into surgery tomorrow so I'll be out the gym for a while

Did one arm floor press 100 x 18, flat db press 135 x 6 then incline 100 x 10, all paused and slow.

Then a bunch of super slow light weight for delts

got down to 225 five weeks ago, then had my left hip scoped. The doc took out more bone than he's ever had in a single op which makes me feel like a special little soldier

While he was in there he took out a cyst on the femur head, cut back my tatty labrum and trimmed a bone spur the size of a fingernail off the outer head of my femur (again, a first for him)

I was told i'd need crutches for six weeks. Two days ago I hammer leg pressed 450 for a slow ten reps. I actually got chased off a hip surgery rehab support group on Facebook by angry middle aged women for posting videos of me front squatting 225 last week

Anyway tl;dr today I did db incline paused bench for ten reps with the 100s and a ton of one arm and hammer strength sets.

The only problem is I ate like shit for the last five weeks and am a fatty fat pizza head all over again.

This morning I front squatted 295 x 3 , slow reps with a pause to the floor, then did 355 for a single with more in the tank.

Hip is good to go after just two months.

Only problem is I need to get the other hip scoped in two months and then I'll have to go through all this shite again  :-X

I have two wee little red dots on my hip, modern day scopes are amazing compared to old school Frankenstein surgery

Some slight pain but nothing celebrex can't touch, pre surgery my torn labrum and bone spurs pretty much prevented me doing 90% of leg exercises.. I haven't conventional deadlifted since 2007 and now I can do it pain free (not that I want to, but still)

Wolf, it's a genetic condition called FAI which affects a surprisingly large amount of people. the hip bones are too big so they rub on each other, tear the labrum and eventually grind down the cartilage leading to hip replacement surgery. Luckily they can treat it early now by cutting off the excess bone.

Most people are still relearning how to walk two months after a scope so I think I'm doing pretty good  :-*

Now I need to stop being fat so I don't bring shame on the UK forum Epic Leans club :(
