Makes some good points.

And not an individual intercourse was granted.

He's exaggerating things (yes, understatement), how many amateur athletes in other sports get paid serious money?

hows his dog protein food doing nowadays?

Well, Olympic athletes quite often do, or at least those at or near the top of their game do. Bodybuilders are not athletes. Bill Pearl once called them "Physique Athletes".
I like Pearl but he was an idiot to even try to make such a claim. It's far more likely that these great "assletes" get paid, not "under the table" but rather, "under the towel".
-
The O is at the New Orleans now? Wow that's a shithole.
He's absolutely right though, this organization holds itself back.
-
This piano fella is misguided. Business is about profitability a better business is a more profitable business. Also most professional associations charge an annual member ship fee. ( engineers, accountants, lawyers etc) with all of his great ideas and his riches from his clothing and supp lines along with his youtube revenue why does he not start his own org and show the ifbb and npc how it is done ??? This fella is a sack of hot air that loves the sound of his own voice
-
Why does this guy charge men to sit in the front seat of his car while he "allegedly" plays with his junk? WHY?
-
if he wants to change things, get the license and promote his own show.
-
Piana's future

Rich 100% right. He is one of the few that has the balls to tell it like it is.The NPC and IFBB have been taking advantage of athletes for years. Why do you think BB is a dying sports?
Why do you think most bb are broke?.I bet only the top 5 pro bodybuilders in the world make of $100,000 a year.Unless they own a company.BB is in a decline, .Why you ask?
Well its expensive as hell and even if you turn pro it cost money to be a pro, do dont get paid to be a professional athelte.I think the winner of the MR USA should get $10, or 25k for the over all. That would bring the competition to a whole nother level
Think about it.It cost about $200-$250 per week to diet for a contest and eat right.
A tanning bed, $150 per month unlimited. You got to have a good base tan.
Clothes to wear after you put your tan on, because you will ruin your clothes $125.
Then you got anabolics.Depending how heavy you use anywhere from $2000-$15000 for a 12 week diet. Then traveling to the show$600, Hotel room $200 for atleast 3 nights.
Rent a car $250 for 3-4 days, for a decent car, gas insurance etc etc
Plus entry fees $100, NPC card $100 maybe more I forgot?Dont forget posing trunks, good ones $80, custom made.So your dont look like a dam stripper or a cheap ass.
Then you got tanning, stuff, dream tan ,Pro Tan or what ever, plus Hot stuff $100
These are realiatic Numbers. So no wonder alot of guys dont compete.
It costs alot of money plus its a major major sacrifrice .Rich is right.
As far as The Mre Olmpia goes he is right. They are holding the best bodybuilding show in the world at a friggin dump. They are charging an arm and a leg for tickets.Plus a 10 ft by 10 ft booth for 3 days is $2500 a pop for vendors. So they can afford to hold the Mr O at Mandalay Bay .
Plus to sponsor the show I think is $100,000

With Piana, Imagine a guy whoes never been drafted by the MLB(major league baseball) trying to tell people what is going on in professional baseball? Bro it's fukcing delusional.

His points are valid but it would help his cause if he was a little more articulate...

Not to mention all the classes they have added to pull in entree fees! At USA's the bb's did not get on stage until midnight est and I lost track of the physique and bikini pro cards handed out in varying height classes (which don't exist in the IFBB). I can't even follow the contests on line any longer never mind sit in the audience and fall asleep.
Hula hooping will the next class they add.

In 4014 Rich will be spoken of as we speak of Plato now.

no one forces people to compete. its done for personal satisfaction. pageantry is no different. they spend as much as if not more than we do all for a little plastic tiara. same concept. i have allot of 5k plastic trophies in my office. ::)

If Rich has any "balls" it's a cinch they're filled with oil. Bodybuilding is not a sport and if it is indeed "dying" it's only because schmoes cannot reproduce. Most bodybuilders are broke due to three (3)main reasons.
They're stupid.
They're lazy.
There's only so many schmoes to go around.
But mostly because they are stupid and lazy.
-
bodybuilders do it cause they love it.
I don't think anyone wakes up and says "I want to be a Millionaire bodybuilder"
If they want to be paid well then they should be promoters too.

i read on getbig that you bought some used jay cutler posing trunk back in the days Mike , how much you pay for those ??? ???

He's exaggerating things (yes, understatement), how many amateur athletes in other sports get paid serious money?
Technically none. That's why they're amateurs.

Dude where have u been at. The O has been at the New Orleans for the past several years.

And because peddling powders and tee's is not always very profitable. There are exceptions to this, however, the market is already flooded.
Selling the real sups comes with it's own set of challenges..Just ask PJ, Dave P, Lee Thompson and the list goes on.

I think a lot of people have a hard time realizing that the majority of people couldnt give a fuck about bodybuilding.
Lol at bodybuilding a "sport"
Its about as much of a sport as nascar.
-
Meh. Pick another more popular spo.... er hobby/skill set if you don't like it.
Powerlifting, Strongman, Highland Games, Olympic lifting, most of Track and Field, and a ton of other sports get nothing and have to pay out of pocket or fund raise to pursue their passions too. Heck, the USOC stipend for the best lifters in the US is only a few hundred a month, and I doubt they have as lucrative schoming prospects.

That's another classic and endless debate, but the -not so surprising- thing is that Rich is contradicting himself..

Pretty much this, bodybuilding will always be seen as some weird subculture by the average joe on the street.
The supplement companies and even the show promoters have now realised they need something more acceptable to the public, hence the "Physique" catagory.
'Blown up beach balls' will be the final novelty act at Physique shows in the not too distant future.

Bodybuilders should be glad that there are shows to begin with and any money opportunity.

Newly appointed "athletes" representative for bodybuilders ;)

Rich is quite plato-nic when it comes to women - great muscle philosopher.

You're way too sarcastic here for an Asian fella :D

Dude where have u been at. The O has been at the New Orleans for the past several years.
2012 was in Vegas.

2012 was in Vegas.
It's still in Las Vegas, he's saying they hold it at The Orleans Hotel and Casino, which is a dumpier place than Mandalay Bay. It's not in the city of New Orleans.

Yes , the NEW ORLEANS HOTEL and Casion in Vegas stud

I think the IFBB Pros need to get proper representation (maybe even a union of sorts) in order to negotiate contracts with the promoters that would guarantee that each pro that competes at their shows gets a very small percentage of the overall profits (something that would suffice in covering room and travel fees).
I say very small percentage, because since Professional Bodybuilding is not in high demand (think an NFL Football game versus IFBB competition), you obviously can't expect the profits to compare to other events that would generate decent revenue. Because of the fact that these events typically bring about small crowds, that's why promoters can be as aggressive as they presently are. Renting out the venues, getting the staff to run the event and posting up the prize money can certainly run up a bill (In many ways, the supplement companies that use the competition venue for marketing purposes tend to put up a percentage of the purse that is granted at the end of the contests to the top competitors). Even so, if these events don't garner enough of a profit for the promoters, they'll ultimately find it to be a waste of time and not lucrative enough to justify having the show.
At the Olympia level, I think it's imperative that all competitors get a small cut of the overall fee of admission. It should at least cover hotel and travel fees. These are the top 15 guys in the "sport" of bodybuilding.
This union for professional bodybuilders can then serve to negotiate contracts between the individual IFBB pros and the supplement companies. I know a number of pros that get severely low-balled by supplement companies to do the exact type of work that other top-tier pros do. There should be an industry standard, that way no one feels as if they're slaving away for a few jars of protein and air fare to the various events as required by contract.
This same union can then work to get health insurance coverage for the IFBB pros that do this as a full-time endeavor. Enough IFBB pros work full time jobs aside from bodybuilding, so those gentlemen have the health insurance coverage taken care of.
It's a big task and whomever takes it upon themselves to establish this professional bodybuilder's Union can end up bringing about great changes to this industry and ultimately to the careers of those involved in professional bodybuilding, as well as figure and physique athletes.

Why is this Elite professional MMA fighter Rich Piana talking about bodybuilding?
-
The fact is the NPC and IFBB makes money off these bodybuilders, if you are going to pay money for the card there should be some perks with it discounts on food at supermarkets, resturants etc cause that is one of the biggest expense of bodybuilding, but they are paying all this money and receiving nothing.
-
Sorry Rich you will once again get overlooked on the Manion's Christmas list.
