Title: Vet turned away from Six Flags for "offensive" shirt!
Post by: WalterWhite on August 15, 2014, 06:20:57 PM
I think the park now needs to remove all their shooting games.  ::) ???

An outraged Iraqi war veteran is demanding an apology after he says he was turned away from New Jersey's Six Flags Great Adventure for a shirt he was wearing that supports fellow Marines.

The shirt reading "Keep Calm and Return Fire" and featuring a star-spangled M-16 rifle was apparently enough of a disturbance to deny entrance for father of three, Mario Alejandro.

"I was walking in through the gate with my wife and kids, who were in front of me, when a security guard grabbed me and said: 'I can't let you into the park with that shirt on. That shirt's offensive,'" he told NJ.com of his experience on Saturday.

Alejandro said he first thought it was a joke.

The shirt, which he said was a Father's Day gift from his children, was purchased through the Marine Reconnaissance Foundation. Its proceeds help support Recon Marines and their families.

Alejandro said the shirt, which was purchased through the Marine Reconnaissance Foundation, was a Father's Day gift from his children and that it supports Recon Marines and their families.
When the security guard persisted, Alejandro did too.

"I said that it's not offensive, it's a military shirt. I told him that I am an Iraq veteran… I served in the war. But he said: 'I don't care, you have to take that off… or you need to buy another shirt to put over it,'" he recalled.

Refusing to cave, he said he welcomed the review of the guard's supervisor who to his shocking surprise maintained the same judgment call.

If he wouldn't change his shirt, he said he was told he needed to leave as his wife and son started to cry.

The back of Alejandro's shirt is seen. The MRF, which heard about the Marine's story, is now selling the once discontinued shirt on their website.
Alejandro, who said he served four years as a member of the Marine infantry and was part of the initial 2003 invasion into Iraq, grudgingly agreed after publicly identifying himself to the hundreds of people around him as a U.S. veteran and explaining why he wasn't being allowed inside the park.

In a statement from Six Flags obtained by NJ.com, a park spokeswoman said that the situation is "under review" and that they have a dress code against vulgar, offensive or violent images or wording.

Alejandro objects to that description mirroring his shirt's design, and apparently so does the Marine Reconnaissance Foundation.

"One of our supporters was denied entry to Six Flags Great Adventures for wearing a shirt that supports the MRF," they wrote on their Facebook page Thursday. "We said this shirt would be limited, but we're re-releasing it. Stand by for the link."

Good. Fat boy's a disgusting fat body. If they let him in the park everyone would vomit before riding the rides.

Good, he should have been turned away. That shirt clearly poses a clear and present danger to those around him. The shirt demonstrates his lust for guns, thus there is a chance he may be carrying. Who knows what this man is capable of.

What's really offensive is the unadulterated ignorance of the lib "progressives". They're so smart when it comes to school, but when after they graduate holy shit the "dumb" immediately sinks in.

And they are the complete opposite of the word liberal.  They take away rights, raise taxes and rule like dictators.  MA and CA are perfect examples along with our presidential and congressional oligarchy.

The shirt probably scared little children. They should have made him remove that shirt and place on a Care Bear shirt.

Would John McClain be turned away from Six Flags for wearing this? He's a man of the law. Hell, some might say he's above the law. #givemesomeasprin

You're not too swift, are you? My post was drenched with sarcasm.  I thought the whole "care bear" line gave it away. And yes, I am well aware of children's reading abilities.

Sometimes I wonder if the elevator goes all the way to the top.  :-\ :-\ :D :D Its almost like everything has to be directly explained to you in order for you to get it.

I was going to suggest a Sponge Bob shirt, however, a small child could choke on a sponge.

Being able to refuse a customer in a private business is more free than the bullshit here where a Christian bakery (widely known as such) refused to make a cake for a gay wedding (with a total homo cake dressing) on religious grounds and the gay community jumped on it to try and FORCE them to do it.

Sadly I have a feeling that too would make headlines in the US. Of course it would depend on which state it happened in.

Six Flags has a dress code that applies to all visitors, veterans or not. As a veteran I do not expect to be exempt from the rules for everyone else.

A real father would wear a nice polo shirt and enjoy his day with his kids.

He doesn't need to walk about in a macho wife beater with his skinny fat tattooed arms on display screaming "fear me I was a marine" for fucks sake. ::)  He probably was sporting a semi hardon as he strutted up to the gates in his macho regalia and was then pricked like a balloon.

I'm also a veteran and this is open to interpretation. The shirt was not vulgar or offensive and raised money for veterans.

DRESS CODE
In keeping with our family-friendly atmosphere, and for health and safety reasons, Six Flags strictly enforces a dress code. Proper attire must be worn at all times, including shirts and appropriate footwear. Clothing with rude, vulgar or offensive language or graphics is not permitted, and shirts cannot be turned inside-out as a solution. Bathing suits may be worn only in waterpark areas. Bikini/bathing suit tops must be covered up while in the theme park. Sheer, mesh, and see-through clothing cannot be used as a cover up over bathing suits. Park admission may be denied if clothing is deemed by management to be inappropriate. Shirt, shoes, and a bottom (shorts, pants, skirt, etc) must be worn at all times in the theme park.

You sort of contradicted yourself there. You say, "Its open for interpretation," then say, "Its NOT offensive." The problem is that since its open to interpretation, it may be offensive to others, even if it is not offensive to you. As such, since it is a privately owned park, the last person to have a say is the manager or whoever runs the park. I am not saying I agree or disagree with such a stance. But it is what it is. Its a privately owned corporation. That's the beauty of capitalism. If you do not agree with the rules or standards of one business, you're free to go elsewhere.

I agree with you on your point.  It just seems to me these issues are resolved based on the political correctness of the day and that's what gnaws at me.  It's NJ and I can just imagine the number guidos wandering around with gold chains and wife beaters which I deem offensive. ;D

Well, I think their rationale was the gun on the shirt, which may imply violence to some (again, I do not think it insinuates violence, just trying to "understand" how the corporation may see it). Gold chains and a wife beater are less likely to cause a reaction that indicates violence.

We all know that if it had been something pro-muslim, pro-911, anti-American, kill whitey, etc, on the shirt, no one would have said shit. And anyone who would have would have been crucified in the media, fired, sued, charged with hate crimes, etc.

We all have to be tolerant of everything that is not only NOT pro-white, pro-American or Israel, pro-US military, pro-Christian or Jewish, etc, but also of everything in paragraph 1 that is actually AGAINST these things.

If you ARE pro-any of these in paragraph 2(even if you're NOT ANTI-anything in paragraph 1), you're a hate mongerer, intolerant, etc, etc.
