I usually don;t post our steroid threads out on the gossip and opinion forum but this is pretty classic. This kid is totally infatuated with the girl filming him and he ends up choking a major cock! he is only benching 225 lbs and he chokes at rep 8 he locks out and should of had a spotter or racked the weight. Look at this kids skin he's on juice too. This is the guys who give steroids a bad name.

why do bodybuilders still do regular bench presses?
they should stick to dumbel pressing and close grip barbel benching, machine pressing etc
but nobody wanna listen to anabolichalo

Maybe because some of us want a good chest.

dumbell press is superior for chest
barbell press is mostly a trricep exercise except for people with short arms
a lot of the chest function is to bring the arms to the center but the barbel hold itself together
the dumbels need to be brought to the center that is if you use right form not just pressin up and down but actually to the center line
trust me i have a doctorate in bodybuilding kynetics
-
ALL that and no real good chest, soft, maybe he will revamp his training, one of the worst pec injuries was francis benfatto, its like his chest just cut in half,in his peak he had perfect shaped pecs/full,kev/toney freeman lucked out partial to almost pretty well hidden torn pecs..

All bodybuilders with the best chests did regular flat bench presses... lot of them.
DBs are better for older trainers and/or who have injured themselves doing regular bench presses.

I do those exercises i rarely do bench press anymore maybe once every two weeks. I did so fucking many when I was young they have no benefits to me anymore jsust a injury waiting to happen. however i do use the bench to do narrow grip tricep presses and bench press max-outs/

PhD = "pile it high and deep" ( a redneck told me that once LOL)
Doing DB benches is to work the chest hard with legit reps.
Benching with a generous spot is a chance to show off in the gym.
Big difference in goals. ;)

That guy looks like shit

And despite your degree, you misspelled "kinetics".
Interesting.

I've seen some good bench pressers in my time around gyms, they get under bar like nothing and pound out reps after reps..for me it wasn't a good marriage, couldn't get comfortable or had tendon/joint strength to excel at it,,squats are my thing..

Your buddy Ronnie did flat bench press all the time. Phil Heath benched all the time too (not sure if he still does).
I know for a fact that Jay Cutler & Dexter Jackson did flat bench press.
So does Kai.

sounds like that movie 'what about bob" when he's easting dinner at the psych doctors house"bob would you like some more salad" " I think I would pile it high and deep and can you get rid of that tomatoe"

ronnie was not that good at barbel benching
he was a dumbel warrior

This is true. off-season ronnie would struggle lifting 315lbs but he would come in after alot of time off but still he would struggle with 315lbs.

i have seen him bench 5 plates for a few shaky off balanced reps
but 12x200lbs dumbels like NOTHING
i mean clearly he was master of dumbels
he also spoke on the matter in firstrainingvideo
he said a bar balances itself out a dumbel doesnt so a dumbel makes you stronger, at least those were his sentiments truly indeed
-
I was spotting a young guy at my gym with 300lbs. He didn't look like he was on anything (found out 800mgs test) and he tore his pec on the second rep.
He recently injured it again and I think it's the sups.

They used to, when they were young, dumb and didn't have their egos in check.
As they got older, smarter and less insecure, they realized (like many other guys) that the barbell bech press is def no must to maximize your pec development and switched to healthier alternatives like dumbbells and machines.
-

pd for pd Ronnies bench was nothing to write home about. His dumbbell figures were impressive though.

OMG great movie!!!

Wish it were true that "older" bodybuilders do dumbbells for chest. 225 incline barbell warmed up and 3rd rep with a somewhat wide grip ended my competitive days. Tore my pec right off the humorous bone. Had surgery 48 hours later. Relaxed looked great....flexed like shit.
-

They do them for a number of reasons. Done correctly, without an overemphasis on poundage, it works just fine. One version that can do wonders, and works better than dumbbells for me without having to worry about hoisting them into the launch position, is........

i used to use to the MCDONALD bar for benching, much better stretch and contraction, been using dumbells last few years and if i do bench its very light,185 maybe, just to go slow n focus.i used to bench 315 for sets of 10 and my chest didnt grow much,my front delts got huge off them tho
-
Now his chest is truly his weak point.
-
barbell bench wrecks my elbows and shoulders
fuck that - dumbbells are way better
-
I don't think the old school guys like Franco , Arnold , Lou ever did dumbell presses
Even levrone was known for bench pressing
Personally I like dumbells better

Agreed. I never saw 1 pic of Arnold or Franco doing flat or incline DB presses.
-
Real talk: I do flat bench w barbell. 1 set 135
1 set 225
Work set 275 for 15
Work set 315 for 6-7 slow reps
Then I move
To dumb bells
But I'm Varsity
Most here are Gay Creeps/J Vs

I can stomach a lot, but something about bench pec tear vids make me uneasy. Did not watch.

young roid bloated moron with zero foundation. muscles grow fast, sparrow tendons not so much

This is a good point but lots of great chests were built w flats.

yes an overwhelming majority of bench warriors have zero chest development
i rest mine case
-

You can't make the assertion that a lot of great chests were built with flat barbell.
1) Yes, a lot of people with great chests have done flat barbell press. However, these same people also do a lot of other similar exercises.
2) People with great chests have the genetics for good chest. So, any exercise they do, they will have a good chest.
3) Flat barbell press is probably the most common exercise, yet not many people have great chests.
-
Should have done more "connective tissue "work"" and tried to "rip the bar in half".

"There are three chest exercises that should always be done," Arnold says. "The bench press, the incline bench press at different angles, and the dumbbell flye."

You don't squat bench or deadlift. Do you train or just play on machines?

flat bench used to be my favorite lift, and my chest was a strong point. never felt it in my triceps, and never liked dumbbells much.
oddly, years later my bench is fucked and i feel it a lot more in my triceps ???
the strange world of weightlifting...
-
i like to swap them. for example i now do flat Dumbbell press and Incline Barbell press. Later on i will hit DECLINE Dumbbell or Barbell press. Declines are a very useful tool for people with shoulder issues too. None of the young boys in the Gym touch Declines. When they do use them most love them. ;)
-
i agree with donny decline is great and spares that strain on the shoulders.
i used to be a bench hog, this may sound weird but for years i did bench on an olympic bench, and was fairly strong , but as soon as i tried other benches i just could not get used to them, i preferred the olympic bench.
these days dumbell presses and hammer strength chest machine.
one time in tennessee i did get to use a med ex chest press, i swear to god that was one of the best machines i have ever used. i believe,
arthur jones designed that machine to
-
I prefer 4 plates each side hammer strength like Phil
-
Sure ronnie struggles with 315 pounds ::)
he was way off-season! I don;t think he had touched a weight for maybe a month it was at metroflex and flex wheeler was even there and he wasn't trying to go heavy or show-off he was trying to get back into the groove he had been traveling and hadnlt been lifting so this was not a average day it was a day where you are getting back into things and if your smart you do it gradually, of course we all know ronnie can easily bench 315 lbs but everybody has their on and off days. This was a off day for ronnie and he wasn't even trying to go heavier(he didn't want to)
-
I never do flat bench these days and still making progress on my chest.
I never train heavy either, I now start with extensions/flies then move on to pressing movements and finish up with press-ups.

WoooSSHHHHHH
"Everybody wanna be bodybuilder but nobody wanna do it drug free "
-

i dont actually workout
i just have good genetics
lol @ suckers who need to workout to look good
-
i just train smart these days, no throwing the weight around, total control. its less likely u will tear a muscle when u r controlling a weight from start to finish, but people wanna play the numbers game whether it b reps or weight n usually that results in sloppier form.i just got back from gym doing legs,i squatted 275 for 4 sets of 12 but the reps where slow,3 seconds down and 3 up.i go ass to calves rock bottom and when u do that u dont need tons of weight just intensity and focus and u can build some nice wheels,i threw in some leg press with feet 6 inches apart, needs toch chest to get full ROM and i bring my toes off the platform in top position and squeeze,i learned that from gaspari back in the day, then its seated leg curls, extensions and lunges,im fucking spent now its time to smoke a doobie and take shower and eat some good quality food like a baked sweet potatoe and a can of sardines in hot sauce ;)not bad for almost 50yrs old in afew months
-
The late Serge Nubret did over 20 sets of bench presses. Usually his working weight was 225 but he was able to put up 500.

surge also did a shitload of skull crushers or what they named after surge the french press. I heard rumors of him doing more then 20m sets of skull crushers and narrow grip benches as well.
