Title: Selfie = a little bit of crazy??
Post by: El Diablo Blanco on November 06, 2014, 12:33:22 PM
So Bradi's been posting a lot of hot whores taking selfies in the Random pics thread.  Despite how hot something about the selfie screams that these bitches have some mental issues.  Their infatuation with taking photos of themselves just tells you there's a little bit of psycho hiding under that smooth tanned skin.

Its a double edged sword

If they take selfies and look good they're insecure about their looks and a bit bonkers and needy

If they don't take photos of themselves they are insecure about their appearance and probably mental and clingy..

Just lift and look at men in thongs instead

Same with bodybuilders and fitness enthusiasts. Most likely a severe mental health issue, including narcissism and self-indulgence.

Have a mate who is 20 (member here) and all he does is send me selfies. Also selfies of him with naked women etc. He shamelessly shows them to me, my gf and everyone. I don't get it. Same way I don't get people going to a concert or live sports and just recording everything on phone or tablet. Enjoy the moment for fuck sake. Noone (including you) will ever watch it, just enjoy it and if you havea  great story tell it later.

AMEN. people pay big bucks to see beyonce (or any peformer) peform and decide to look at her through the iphone instead of watching her live.

Same goes for weddings, dumb fucks film the bride walking down the aisle, i guarantee that shit gets no views later.

The whole whole taking pictures at every gathering pisses me off to the point where I refuse to pose for the picture. I know full well that no one will ever look at it again, so why am I going to spend my evening getting time trolled for 20 pictures during the evening?

It caused some arguments when I first deployed this approach, but now other people are deploying it, as they see that if you allow this to continue, all the picture taking adds up to a lot of time / inconvenience for zero return.

I thing selfies is the ultimate state of self isolation people live now. People don't have one friend that could take their pic, they have to do it themselves.

Or, because they constantly have a camera on them, they take some pics of themselves.

Yes but... why take so many pictures? Are they in loved with themselves? It seems like attention whoring to me, but to each his own right?

Good point. The ratio of contact humans have now with other humans via digital devices vs how much in person contact humans have with others has reached extreme levels.

I stood 3 feet away on this long escalator ride with this mid 20s chick, who looked like a biz traveler. Im standing 2 steps back from her so im higher up and looking down. Its just us on this escalator. She proceeds to take and retake selfies of her face, with a total disregard that i am staring at her. Infact, it was like she didnt even notice me standing there. She was either totally wrapped up in her own world/life that it didnt even cross her mind a guy two feet away was staring at her smilig as she did this shit,
Or she knew i was there and didnt give two shits a stranger was watching her carry on with this behavior. I mean there is a serious social experiment/philosphy to be uncovered by this shit. Its hard to imagine. Im only a few years older than this chick and id be totally embarrased if someone caught me doing that.

My wife has a friend who puts pictures of her xrays on her Facebook before she had some kind of surgery she is completely fucked in the head any attention she can get. She can't eat gluten or she has stomach problems so she's always posting about her "disease" I don't care to be around idiots like that. She constantly takes selfies.

Why not tell her that you are behind her and you don't want to be a part of her selfie? This is what made them go out of control, no one is getting them on check the fucking bitches. Their parents doesn't tell them what to do, their friends their teachers doesn't criticize them and you too. I like to put them on their places. I think she did a selfie without giving a fuck if you are behind her because she used to. If you told her the next time she won't repeat it.

One time I was taking a ticket for the tramway and waiting in line. 4 bitches came from nowhere wanted to take the ticket before me because they were in hurry  ::) I made them ashamed of their fucking asses by telling them to be in line. Selfies bitches. I mock them when they take selfies, one time a girl near the beach was taking a picture of her "bestie" in a ridicule pose so I went near her and made the same ridicule pose. Girl will not try to do the same pose again  ;D

At large, its a societal thing. Its not really individual self-indulgence. Its a product of a mentally ill society, a sort of collectivistic mental illness, where people feel the need to capture everything on their cell phone.

1. Woman are always judged and valued for their beauty. * Much more then males are, in most cultures.

2. They tend to primp and always look in the mirror to see how they look.

3. A selfie is a new technology extension of the old primping in the mirror.

It will stransition to something else (or if you are someone like R.RObinson - you will enjoy that at 70 and make bussiness off it). It's just life ffs, beautiful people are enjoying their beauty (while it lasts), or fame, or wealth, no need to take everything as some kind of psychotic experiment/analysis.

This is true, but its disconcerting and odd behavior. I have a good friend who does it often and hes a guy but hes in the semi-entertainment biz so its some form of self promotion i guess. The mouth open wide selfie is so douchey and he does this all the time. He is also 30 yrs old

It depends. In all, taking selfies has no bad implications for society. However, fear the day when people get so self-absorbed in their own ways, that they fail to see anything beyond themselves. And that is the way society is going. Has it always been like this? Yes, to a certain degree, but times have definitely changed with the advent of technology. As I stated, I don't think taking selfies will have any negative societal implications, however it does represent a low-level of narcissism, which if taken to extremes, may affect society as a whole. I hope I do not live to see the day that that happens.

not really .... while is really annoying ...

Is the norm on today's "social media",  The least photogenic freak in the planet is taking selfies  left and right and getting tons of attention/compliments and "likes"

Is an gigantic  ego booster that does not cost you a penny,

Maybe in years to come people will feel embarrassed to look back at those pics ...but now is just cool cause everybody is doing it .

Pretty much. Then all the filters they add, arrange facial symmetry and shit, it's too much. Nobody looks they way they do in pics in real life on those sites.

It's a duck face and just maybe since I am 45 and have not had plastic surgery except on my nose to make it wider for breathing purposes, it might be those lines that run from the nose to the mouth. Filler can correct this but I like the way I look... Not putting filler in my face.

http://topinfopost.com/2014/12/11/selfies-mental-disorders
Selfies Are Linked To Mental Disorders

You’ve seen it thousands of times on Facebook and other social media outlets, there is even a song on the radio about it! Selfies have become a huge trend in social media and psychiatrists and mental health workers are linking them to mental health conditions related to narcissism and a person’s obsession with their looks.

According to psychiatrist Dr David Veal: “Two out of three of all the patients who come to see me with Body Dysmorphic Disorder since the rise of camera phones have a compulsion to repeatedly take and post selfies on social media sites.”

“Cognitive behavioural therapy is used to help a patient to recognize the reasons for his or her compulsive behaviour and then to learn how to moderate it,” he told the Sunday Mirror.

I’ve personally seen this with some of my own friends. They might take several selfies over and over again until they find the right one. Picking out details about their eyebrows, skin, noses, smiles, teeth, hair and so forth, all in an attempt to find the perfect angle to make the perfect picture. Even looking at how most of us choose our profile pictures on Facebook and other social media sites is a huge process. Believe it or not, as harmless as these acts all seem, they build up over time to create and create great forms of self consciousness and false sense of confidence. Instead of being okay with who we are no matter what, we strive to find the right picture with all the perfect details. The more likes we get on social media sites the happier we feel. Is this sustainable? Basing our happiness on our profile picture or selfie picture performance?
How far can the selfie obsession go? A British male teenager went to the extent of  trying to commit suicide after he was unable to take what he felt was the perfect selfie. Danny Bowman became so obsessed with capturing the perfect shot that he would spend roughly 10 hours per day taking up to 200 selfies trying to get the perfect shot. As things got more and more intense for Danny, he lost nearly 30 pounds, dropped out of school and did not leave the house for six months as he kept trying for the perfect picture. During his suicide attempt, Bowman was saved by his mother.

“I was constantly in search of taking the perfect selfie and when I realized I couldn’t, I wanted to die. I lost my friends, my education, my health and almost my life,” he told The Mirror.

While this is an extreme case, it isn’t too far off from what goes through many of the minds of young, and even older, people as they take pictures of themselves for social media. Seeing other peoples pictures, seeing the attention they may or may not get, we end up comparing ourselves and the fine details of our looks. Overtime, an obsession builds and our looks become increasingly more important to us. Something I feel we should be focusing less and less on versus more and more.

“Selfies frequently trigger perceptions of self-indulgence or attention-seeking social dependence that raises the damned-if-you-do and damned-if-you-don’t spectre of either narcissism or very low self-esteem,” said Pamela Rutledge in Psychology Today.

Narcissism, being obsessed with receiving recognition and gratification from ones looks, vanity and in an egotistical manner, is becoming a big problem in our digital age. I personally feel a big part of this stems from judgement of self, judgement of others and pop culture. There is a huge lack of addressing these personal issues within the education system or other programs youth and other young people have access to. We focus so much on educating a person to become a trained member of society, but we do nothing for their own personal development as a person. This is a very important aspect of personal development that I feel should be at the forefront of our education system.
The addiction to selfies has also alarmed health professionals in Thailand. “To pay close attention to published photos, controlling who sees or who likes or comments them, hoping to reach the greatest number of likes is a symptom that ‘selfies’ are causing problems,” said Panpimol Wipulakorn, of the Thai Mental Health Department.

The doctor believed that behaviours could generate more mental issues in the future, especially those related to lack of confidence.

The next time you go to post an image of yourself online, or even when you go out for the day, observe yourself and find out how much of your thoughts are based on how you look, what you think others will think of you and how you might be using your looks to try and make you feel good for a short period of time. From there you can work on accepting every aspect of who you are as being perfect and as it needs to be without needing to look outside yourself for self-love. You are much more than your looks.

Duck faces are for the mentally unstable/insecure ones.

don't forget ugly ones, since they need to contort their faces to look better

It's actually a good way to read what kind of mental illness a person has...On those dating sites, if someone has over 3 pictures of themselves, there is most likely mental illness issues. Which may be a good thing in some cases...Imagine if DLB was single and she was trolling for dates? What kind of fucking lunatic would want to spend time with someone who takes 100+ selfies of themselves everyday?
