Makes me feel like a kid again. High expectations for this move.
-
already getting slated for the cgi gate opening and obvious cgi trees.
Been looking forward to this, hope it delivers.

after 21yrs since the original jurasic park (1993), CGI has gotten advanced and more complicated and we expect this movie to make history again, though, not many are convinced it will surpassed the original which is still hold the second record for most money made in movie history
-
Jurassic Park has really stood the test of time as a technical achievement. It's over 20 years old I think (can't remember when it came out for sure) and the dinosaurs still look good.
-
How can it possibly impress ???
With new info on the dinosaurs, the dinosaurs may change. You know, unlike back in the original, the theory that the T-Rex only responded to movement. Now there is info that the T-Rex chicks may have had feathers. And the "raptors" as well.
-
How can it possibly impress ???
exactly. all CGI
-
they should really apply CGI to porn. Imagine a nice stack of some 4-tittied girls getting creative.

CGI has "gotten more advanced" but a lot of what helped greatly in the 1st three movies was practical NON-cgi effects seamlessly mixed in with cgi.
The technology is there to create better cgi than ever before but the render time per frame would amount to 30 years torender a cg laden movie. Some of the fantastic cg still architectural or human still shots take over 1 day to render, some a week. 1 day times 24 fps equals almost a month for 1 second of THE BEST cgi.
They'll get there but cgi still has a long way to go.

too much CGI is ruining movies these day and age, but after "Avatar", everyone is trying to copy the james Cameroon way

Exactly. Doesn't matter how good the CGI is , if you know its fake then the alot of the thrill and believability is gone.
-
CGI still looks extremely fake, at least for me, if overused can completely ruin everything... It must be used with moderation, even today... Everytime i look at these CGI crapfest my mind goes to The Terminator or Predator (just two examples), with a real T-800 and with the alien played by a real person with a real suit... Plus Alien or Aliens, everything looked real, it was awesome... It was probably more expensive, needed more talent and craftmanship, but it looked hell of a lot better...
-
Same shit over and over again.
Silly.

CGI is absolute crap 9 times out of 10.

The worst was in The Matrix sequel where they hyped the CGI as being revolutionary and it ended up looking like a cutscene from a PlayStation game.

That's what CGI really look in a movie even today, cutscenes from late 90s/early 00s videogames... Difference is, you played those games, and at that time they were amazing and unsurpassed, cutscenes were useful to tell a part of the story, nothing else...
-
never even watched the others, that shit is for kids, looks super fake anyways, CGI or the other way.

Jurassic Park was a prime example of good cgi. Not overused and extremely polished and calculated.
But more to the point, it was ground breaking at the time. Ordinary cgi can't impress like that anymore.avatar was good 3d but no Jurassic Park...
I think Virtual Reality or something else is the next step

They maybe don't impress anymore but the dinosaurs and background looked believable, and how they should be made still today, imo... Take Jaws for example, that man-made shark is still today the most real... The only other well made shark movie was Deep Blue Sea, imo... After years and years no one was able to do a good shark movie without using crappy CGI or images from documentaries, and Jaws is from 1975...

THATS NOT MICHAEL JACKSON AFTER 'PEPSI'SHOOT,,

Yep nothing beats practical effects. Look at Indiana Jones, great sets and real action then they went against the grain with the Crystal skull and it was shit.
I don't know why they don't use more miniatures or models and enlarge or insert them with graphics programs. Like with hulk, rather than cgi him, why not get a bodybuilder like Lee priest who has the short proportions and enlarge him to 15ft high.
Any stuff that's actually there looks better than any cgi, spot on with jaws.

Alien-Aliens, T1 T2, 2001, blade runner, etc looks far better than anything made since.
It's pretty wild how good things back then could look.

Agreed with both... Nothing can beat man-made models and special effects from back in the days, they are infinitely better, being real they obviously look real and believable... As of now, CGI can't even come close...
-
I actually watched the original Alien movie on Saturday. It still looks great not only due to it's story/direction, but also because the effects still look impressive as real sets were built and used. The actors also behave more realistically since they are dealing with actual props rather then performing in front of a blue screen.
As said before, if CGI is used then it needs to be used in moderation - otherwise the movie just becomes a phoney looking mess.

I think it boils down to the fact that people no longer wants to get their hands dirty. They'd rather sit in front of a screen and render pictures for 18h a day with a Dr Pepper in their hand rather than breaking nails and tearing skin as they build large scale sets by hand.
All those movies you mention were trail blazers, defining how action movies and special effects should be done.
As the older generations of movie scenery builders are retiring we will probably enter a duller era of cinema, where real life sets and animatronics gets fully replaced with shitty CGI.

Yes. Same goes for Jaws.

I believe that they did scan Lee Priest and another bodybuilder for the first Hulk film.
-
Animatronics is one of the reasons why the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park looked so real and believable. Such as in the T-Rex scene with the cars. It made the scene so scary and convincing because the dinosaur looked real, you could actually see the rain dripping off its skin.
However, these used both CGI and animatronics depending on the type of scene.
-
yea i recall that actually but they shouldn't scan a bodybuilder like priest but let him act it out and just enlarge like honey i shrunk or blew up the kids.

-
I do think that CGI is way overdone on most movies of this type. However, I think that because of HD it's much tougher to get away with a lot of practical effects. Certain things you could hide back in the day stand out like a sore thumb today.

Can already tell that it is a shitty movie. :-\
Worse yet, the CGI is worse than the original.

Is there any movie franchise with integrity left? Even new franchises like Hobbit also draw their stories out over too many movies in the name of the buck.
Hunger Games also, it could easily have been 1 movie and been a classic.
-
Mostly everything is in the name of the buck these days.
If you CAN milk a franchise, milk it!
Unless it's some artsy independent movie.

You have to be fucking kidding me! This clown on a motorcycle with a group of friendly raptors will take down a modified T-Rex
-
Considering it's the same old shit it looks ok, I wouldn't say cgi is worse, definitely not much of an improvement which makes you wonder how the fuck not with 22 years between the 2. Crazy how they produced such amazing cg rendering back then when Sega megadrives and super Nintendo's were the top home game systems graphic wise.

I turned off mid way through the trailer, rewatched after you comment. Man what a shitjunk this movie will be. Turning the main antagonists to hunting dogs and the new bad guy is a wannabe Godzilla Super T-rex.
Oh brother.

I can guarantee it will have more cheese in it than T4. Here is the best scene of the movie and I'm betting T4's mechanical T-Rex is better ::):
-
You know, there is a reason why dinosaurs are extinct, and never will and never should come back. And all these movies tend to echo that.

In this movie, will we see Vince Basile riding a t-rex in a Gold's gym tank-top while shouting "WATCH OUT FLOTSAM!!" ?

Unfortunately, Vince Basile's theory of hypertrophy and machines will never work on a T-Rex's genetically small arms.

I recall a documentary where they calculated that a T-Rex would still be able to curl a couple of hundred kilos.

Jim Law knows what I'm talking about:
"6. Yoda - ATTACK OF THE CLONES
Imagine if that new MUPPET MOVIE last year replaced all the puppets with little CGI assholes jumping around doing spin moves over and over. I understand Yoda, at some point in his life, could kick some major ass, and the fact that it took Lucasfilm sized computers to make him look so blurry while doing so. Why use those same computers to show him sitting on his ass? There was a lovable comfort to the clumpy Yoda puppet that's lost when you look really close at digitally enhanced Yoda. I don't know if any of this makes any sense to anybody else."

Hate to be negative but I can only agree.. this is the exact same movie again. Nothing new added at all? Just changed the name from park to world.
I can't really understand how the cgi can look more fake than the 1993 version.
I guess that it's not the size of the computer but how you use it..!
-
I still think it will be enjoyable, I like all the jp movies.
This movie the velociraptors are used by the humans like hunting dogs.
apparantly Jurassic world neighbours the original Jurassic park from the first movie and dinosaurs from the first breach the new park

It's spliced with a raptor and cuttlefish, so I'm assuming highly intelligent and the ability to camouflage with surroundings. It sounds all hunky-dory but the moto-raptors killed it for me, just can't mentally get past that scene.

i'm there. :o :o :o :o :o :o

the moto-raptors raised the bar on phony. did you not notice the motorcycle was more or less still while surrounds were moving?

Movies i would have loved to see 15 yrs ago, now i wont even bother cuz I know it will be like watching a cartoon. I tried to watch this ww2 flick on nerflix called fortress, and wtf, it was literally a cartoon.
The backlash of movie goers is beyond over due. Early 2000s the industry and fans loved that new technology, but its long over and real movies need to be made. However, people are still paying to see this absolute shit like transformers, etc etc etc so i doubt it will change.
I HaTe CGI

I'm a little shocked at how bad the CGI looked. I was looking forward to this movie, now I'm kinda not.
-
I am waiting for them to create a Wooly Mammoth already!!!! After that, they may really be able to create a real dinosaur.
Not far fetched at all. Cross Raptor/T-Rex DNA with a chicken egg, and see what you get :o
Wouldn't be shocked at all if these experiments were already happening in some secret, underground facility.

It will be interesting to see if this movie will be inferior to the 20 year old Jurassic park from 1994. (My guess)
20 years later and the movies look worse, that's pretty embarrassing...
