Gotham Mayor Bill de Blasio spoke Monday Morning at the NYPD graduation ceremony at Madison Square Garden, an oration rife with tension, as it follows protests over the Eric Garner grand jury decision and the ambush-style murder of two NYPD officers.
To make matters even more uncomfortable, among the graduating class was the son of Pat Lynch, the head of the Policemen’s Benevolent Association, who howled that de Blasio had “blood on his hands” after the deaths of the two officers.
Upon being announced De Blasio was booed by some in attendance, though it is not clear by whom specifically. According to DNAinfo reporters Danielle Tcholakian and Aidan Gardiner, the cadets themselves did not appear to heckle the mayor.
At one point during his speech de Blasio warned the cadets that they would face “problems you didn’t create,” at which point one member of the audience shouted “You created them!”
De Blasio went on to tout the investments his administration had made in the department, and the city’s historically low crime rate. “Whatever is known by this department will be in your hands instantaneously to ensure you can do your job and be protected,” he said. “We’ll be investing in you.”

Now THAT is the place to boo and heckle his ass. Not a funeral.

All this discussion of "etiquete", "social decorum" or whatever else aside, the man is clearly losing control of his police force.

agreed. Is it only because he told his son to be careful with police? Cause all parents say this.
I heard him being a bag of shit on a lot of actual mgmt issues, long before this shooting. Schools, etc? He has lost control of them, but there must be way more than just "be careful around cops" - that's solid advice for everyone. They can't be that butthurt over that.

This is the first time I've ever seen law enforcement react that way in my entire life.
Their reaction speaks volumes of the situation regardless of how you or I feel about how they went about expressing it.
This guy is TERRIBLE for police morale and his extremely poor leadership could turn into very dangerous waters.

it's possible they're both lib pieces of shit. Rudy was half a lib too. But when 51% of the city is liberal (and I"m guessing much higher, diblasio got 72% of vote?), all of them will be libs.

As much as I disagreed with Bloomberg on some of his policies, at the very least he had control and maintained good relations with his police force.
This is just absolutely disgraceful what is transpiring right now.
You cannot see that?
How can you even begin to compare Bloomberg/Rudy against de Blasio?

they were all liberals. We're just arguing about who was the bigger liberal. I wouldn't vote for any of them.

What's your thoughts on police relations with Rudy and Bloomberg compared to de Blasio?

Those 2were wayyyy better at it.
But they should be coming down on dirty cop just as hard. An those cops that fudge police reports. I'm not defending deblasio. Im saying while the cops hate him, I think most peopl hate crooked cops more. Only a very small number of cops are shady, bu they're no ostracized as they should be, imo

It's a balancing act. Alot of it is political skill...the ability to play both sides of the fence.
de Blasio just looks like a deer in the headlights because he is so used to 30 years of skating by with his ideology with no resistance and suddenly the "real world" is hitting him right in the face.
de Blasio is about as bad as it gets when it comes to law enforcement relations(a huge part of being a big city mayor) and it's clear as day.
He will never recover from this when it comes to the NYPD.

All the hippie metrosexual libtards that voted in de blasio probably dont have a clue how nyc was just a few decades ago. The crime rates and the muggings have dropped dramatically for a reason. Now these idealist-fantasy minded libtards want to change everything for the sake of political correctness....let them have it their way, turn the city over to the animals again. Let these dipshits see how well their utopian ideologies work in the real world.

No - how about we just impeach William Wilhem Jr aka Bill DeBlasio. I warned everyone from day one of this fake pos.

Probably because both Rudy AND Bloomburg were booed at the same event in the past.

In 2003, Bloomberg was met with a "Chorus of Boos"

Rudy Guiliani was booed three times at these graduations -

I had no idea... cops regularly boo the mayor here. I kinda over-reacted on this one.

Again, all these lib idiots can fck off, I have no love for them.
BUT I have to say, anyone that disagrees with the westboro idiots protesting at funerals, but is okay when the NYPD does it at funerals - anyone who does this is being a huge hypocrite. "I believe in it, because I believe in that cause" = completely anti-constitutional. Sorry, but just not american. You either support right to protest at funeral, or you don't.
I think NOBODY should ruin a funeral with political stunts like this - graduation was days later and got just as much media coverage. No need to put the family thru that crap. I was happy to see diblasio booed at the graduation, as rudy and bloomy were before. But a funeral? Only a punk would protest at a funeral, no matter the cause. period.

You are trying to make connections between de Blasio and Rudy/Bloomberg and then follow it up with a Westboro baptist church analogy.
There is no connection. It's not even close.
This mayor is losing control of a city in a way that I can't remember seeing many times in my life.
"In fact, “summonses for low-level offenses like public drinking and urination … dropped from 4,831 to 300″ from this time period in 2013 to 2014."
From 4,831 to 300. Just think about that. That is a pretty telling stat.
The mayor has lost control. Clear as day. That was never even close to happening with Rudy or Bloomberg.

YOU are comparing their causes. Saying is just, one is not. I'm not making that judgment. Rather - Is it right to protest AT A FUNERAL? I say no. I guess you say "depends upon their cause". Okay, we disagree there.

When the streets of NYC flow with urine, citizens won't be blaming the mayor. They'll blame the cops that are whining about politicians instead of enforcing the law and keeping streets clean.
When the #1 story from new years eve tonight is "People are pissing everywhere while cops refuse to stop them, because they're mad at a politician", well, that doesn't help the NYPD cause.

That will be a minor story written on the 6th page of the New York Times compared to all these protests that keep popping up.
The police hold all the cards on this little showdown with the mayor.

De Bl-ASS-io brought this on himself. He used the unrest for political purposes and it's biting him in the rear end. He came out immediately spewing the same Sharpton talking points.

how long until he resigns? I'd bet never. Unhappy cops are one thing, but I'd like to see what a poll of NYers says. They probably hate the mayor, sure, but let's see the NYPD approval rating.
Mayor diblasio didn't shove a guy to the cold, wet concrete for dancing. The NYPD did.
Mayor diblasio hasn't shot any unarmed people, framed anyone, nor any other violent crimes, but the NYPD did.
This wouldn't be a story if the cop had admitting in his paperwork that he used a chokeehold, if the EMTs didn't stand around for 10 minutes which garner was unresponsive, if the NYPD hadn't tried to hide and deny everything.

true, but the law is the law.
if a citizen shoved that dancer for being a prick, the cops would have arrested him.
But the cops do it - and it's just "accepted"?
See, if we decide we can abandon some laws because we don't like them - then we cannot complain when some people decide they don't like the murder laws, and they murder people when they wish.
I say, enforce the law 100%. Follow the law 100%. Not just the ones you agree with.

I guess what shocks me is how fast so many getbiggers are willing to suspend the, because they think someone is annoying, stupid, wrong, etc.
This d-bag dancer was totally annoying and obnoxious, very punchable. But legally, we can't do it. Legally, the cops cannot do it. In America, you cannot just beat or shove somebody because their legal actions are annoying.
Reminds me of this local guy we have in my town. One or two nights a week, he walks around with a megaphone at just the legal limit. He wears a sign. He quotes the bible and tells people they're condemned for this or that. He's harassing people on vacation - but he's following the law. he's rude and insulting and tries to provoke people, but he never steps off his space, never follows them, never raises a finger. Cops can't touch him. No violation of anything, he's smart like that.
A few times a night, someone will bump, shove, assault, threaten him. Then, as per their plan, his cameraman (who is quietly filming everything) will start following that person as they call 911 and report it. Then he will file a report and SUE them. He has hundreds of lawsuits in the pipes, all against people that assault, shove, threaten. It's all on video, so they can't deny it. Their shoves (after he insults them) are probably warranted, but they're illegal. People are charged with battery, people end up paying for him to go away. He makes an amazing living just insulting people LEGALLY and banking off their inability to control their urges to punch or shove this dude.
It sucks, he's entirely obnoxious, but it's LEGAL. Just like the ellen dancer.

The Federalist, a conservative web-magazine, had an eye-opening take on the NYPD situation:
(BTW, not to spam the board but I'm making this same post on 1 other NYPD thread.)
The NYPD’s Revolt Is A Direct Threat To Democracy
By Ben Domenech
December 31, 2014
Since the moment when police officers turned their backs in protest on New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, we’ve seen the type of escalating activity in the city which would be more recognizable as the preview to a messy Latin American coup d’etat. The latest is a form of purposeful sabotage on the part of the NYPD, which is now actively shirking its duty to enforce the law. According to the New York Post, traffic tickets and summonses have plummeted by 94 percent, and overall arrests are down 66 percent for the week compared to the same period last year. Here’s the data comparisons from this year to 2013:
- Citations for traffic violations fell by 94 percent, from 10,069 to 587, during that time frame. Summonses for low-level offenses like public drinking and urination also plunged 94 percent — from 4,831 to 300. Even parking violations are way down, dropping by 92 percent, from 14,699 to 1,241. Drug arrests by cops assigned to the NYPD’s Organized Crime Control Bureau — which are part of the overall number — dropped by 84 percent, from 382 to 63.
Considering how much New York, as with many of our other major cities, has leaned toward over-policing, this isn’t all a bad thing – I’m not going to get worked up about cops handing out fewer parking violations. But as a whole, this represents a completely irresponsible rejection of the duty to enforce the law. Yesterday, speaking to a graduating class of more than 800 new officers at Madison Square Garden, de Blasio was booed and heckled as he struggled to extend an oratorical olive branch. De Blasio told the gathering of new cops “you will confront all the problems that plague our society, problems that you didn’t create” – in response, a heckler jeered “You created them!” People in the audience applauded and cheered as a de Blasio tried to recover with even more voluminous praise for the force.
Supporters of the NYPD have pointed out throughout the back-turning that their officers feel upset at Mayor de Blasio and others, that they feel they are less safe because of the comments of politicians. This is one more example of one of the most irritating tendencies of unionized police forces today – a recurring demand that they receive the same attitude of respect for authority given to the United States military, without any of the responsibility and duty that comes with it.

I said I support creating a law that states "any person that walks within X feet from a police officer in a surreptitious manner can be charged with misdemeanor, etc." Interfering with duties, attempting to intimidate, call it whatever you want. I woudn't allow a person to stand that close to me - BUT I would not be allowed to shove his ass to the ground for doing so, even if I felt he deserved it.
The problem is the law. It should be changed. But since it's the current law, we have to follow it.
OR - look at it htis way - that prick deserved to be slammed because what, he disrespected someone and got all up on them. Okay, then should I be able to see the cop disrespecting someone, and shove the cop to the ground? Cause you know, my ass is in jail if I try that shit lol.
Double standards make people resent cops. Double standards, they gotta go. I can't shove annoying people, then you can't shove annoying people. Even if they deserve it. Change the law. OR, we have to STFU when people break laws they disagree with.

We've butted heads here lately surrounding this whole issue but I agree with you on this one.
Personally, I think a good forceful baton to the chops would send a good signal to anyone who wants to sneak up on a cop and act like a jerk off but that probably is a bit harsh.
-

I'd be okay with that, even. As long as the law was established and it was written "if you get within 3 feet of a cop for the next 6 months, they will use physical force as a punishment".
As long as we know the law going in, cool. I don't thnk Ellen guy would have done it if the law had been in place. Problem is, cops haven't stood up and said "Hey, we'd like some protection from idiots who use us as props in viral movies about false urinating bottles and Ellen Dance-offs. Sounds like the law is outdated, because police resources are regularly wasted chasing down pranksters who are making youtube coin while actual lawbreakers skate on by.
IMO, if the other 3-4 officers standing there had filed incident reports stating "well, these 2 officers did shove the man fairly hard, he did fly fwd ahead of his feet, and fell on the concrete".... those 2 cops might only get a slap on the wrist, which is fine, BUT the NATION would recognize "wow, cops telling on cops, maybe they're not so bad after all!".
I look at that video and I'm disgusted as much by the onlooking cops that "didn't see nuthin" as the cops that actually just shoved the dude. And nobody stopped to help him up, with a little "shit brah, I might have scooted you a little hard there, sorry about that".
They show zero compassion, and they just seem like they hate people. They don't care if that person is hurt. They don't care if they shove people or call them motherfckers. They just don't like people - then why are they cops?

They just don't like people - then why are they cops?
that fucking clown took a fall for the camera, get over it

you're okay with the law being broken, when you disagree with the law.
That's cool when the only damage is a dude's scuffed knees. But there are animals out there who feel it's okay to shoot up a car full of cops, because they disagree with that whole murder law thing.
Gotta be consistent. The law is to be followed. Don't like it? Change it! I'm 100% in support of laws to protect police from video camera jackasses.
But the law is the law is the law. Can't go breaking it.

It's a stressful job, you gotta admit that.
One minute these clowns are dancing around acting a fool and the next they could be sticking a knife in your throat.
For the vast majority of these guys they just want to make it home safely to see their family and I'm sure nearly all of them have seen the videos of the cops who let their guard down for a moment and ended up 6 feet under as a result.

many people have stressful jobs and don't get the law, a gun, and training on their sides.
teachers deal with violent and often angry, disrespectful kids every day, some armed. But if a teacher were to shove a kid like this, he's done with teaching.
I guess what I'm trying to say is ---- Is this behavior okay, or isn't it?
I want to hear getbiggers say it is OKAY to SHOVE someone who dances near a cop. Say it. Also, list the other actions that a cop is allowed to shove someone in a punitive manner. No threat present at this point - it was just "get the fck out of here".
I want to know the selective list when it's cool for NYPD to shove a civilian that hasn't broken a single law. Please list them.

Well there you go again with your far fetched analogies.
First it was turning your back at a funeral by police officers whose co-workers were executed and comparing it to the hateful things the Westboro Baptist crew shouts at funerals of completely innocent people.
Then it was comparing a few scattered boos at a Rudy/Bloomberg speech back in 1997 or whatever to how completely lost de Blasio is at this very moment.
And now comparing a job of a teacher to that of a police officer in terms of the risk they face in terms of physical violence/death being forced upon them.
We get 240. You hate the police. Just come out and admit it.
