We are in 1936 here. 79 years ago !
Times have changed (foods, lifestyle, genes, etc).
Steroids existed. But I'm not sure they were available to ordinary people.

in 1936?..lol. maybe a test extract from pigs in a lab. nothing that actually worked to any degree.

it was 20 more years before something worth using came about. and even then it took a few years to get noticed.

History check.
As far back as the 1920 sports authority's knew some kind of doping was going on.

By 1928 the IAAF Had a doping ban in place.
Testosterone Derivatives were becoming come in the 1930's.

In fact as far back as the ancient Greeks the were using stuff all be it herbs, spices,
Etc to improve performance.

Trying to increase human performance in one way or another has been going on
Pretty much from early civilisation.

It occasionally surprises me how very well educated, successful people believe the lies like that when it comes to fitness.

Part of it, I believe, is simply because genuinely good, upstanding people are probably inclined to believe other people. So, what happens when you have almost literally an entire industry lying to you from magazines, tv, gyms... everywhere?

The industry norm is for people who use and abuse drugs to be the face of over the counter supplements. I would be surprised if anyone on this site didn't get caught by this lie when they first got into fitness and nutrition.

Percy Lavon Julian first started researching how to make steroids from soybeans while working for the Glidden Company in 1940... (First you extract the estrogen from soybeans, then convert it to testosterone)

I knew the fans and users of steroids would come out to say they could have been on something. So in effect they are saying no one can exercise and show a muscular body. Just impossible.  ::)

I think the physiques were incredible for the time or any time for naturals. Yes, I believe they were natural. Bodybuilding back then was even a smaller sub culture of sport than it is today.

Who really knows if some one else is using Performance Enhancements
Wether they Be 'Natural' or 'unnatural'.

Let alone what they are taking.
Only that individual & his supplier.

And who really cares,
There are plenty who claim Natural & are not.
And those who are Natural & are targeted as not being natural.
