Come on people

It's a good thing that there is full gun control in Tunisia or this could have been REALLY bad.
Do any of you European and British (but I repeat myself) gun-control supporters ever wonder why these attacks don't happen in Texas?
-
remember we're celebrating gayness ::)

Uhhhh, Texas has had their share of mass shootings as well. :-\

Yup, these shootings never happen in Texas. NEVER, EVER!!! In fact, two of the worst mass shootings have occurred in Texas. But, nope, these attacks NEVER happen in Texas!!!!
1. Oct. 16, 1991: A deadly shooting rampage took place in Killeen, Texas, as George Hennard opened fire at a Luby’s Cafeteria, killing 23 people before taking his own life. 20 others were wounded in the attack.
2 .Aug. 1, 1966: Charles Whitman opened fire from the clock tower at the University of Texas at Austin, killing 16 people and wounding 31.
3. Nov. 5, 2009: Thirteen soldiers and civilians were killed and more than two dozen wounded when a gunman walked into the Soldier Readiness Processing Center at Fort Hood, Texas, and opened fire. Army psychiatrist Maj. Nidal Hasan is charged with 13 counts of premeditated murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder.
4. Sept. 15, 1999: Seven people were killed and seven others injured when a gunman opened fire inside a crowded chapel at Fort Worth’s Wedgewood Baptist Church. Some worshipers believed that Larry Gene Ashbrook was pulling a prank and continued singing after the shooting began. The murderer killed himself.
5. On July 9, 2014, a mass shooting occurred in a home located in the town of Spring, Texas, a suburb of Houston, leaving six family members dead, four of them children, and a lone survivor. The suspected shooter, later identified as 33-year-old Ronald Lee Haskell, was apprehended after a standoff that lasted several hours.[2][3][4] Haskell was related to the victims by a former marriage.[5]
6. On November 10, 2013, two people have been killed and at least 22 others injured in Cypress, a northwest suburb of Houston, Texas, when a house party erupted into a shooting.

Don't worry, AJ, will come into this thread and have some excuse. You know, "Well, those do not count as mass shootings" or something. :D

I was thinking of using the "they were gun-free zones" (which they were) excuse.

Hey son, I have a bag of boiled sweets in my pocket and some puppies in my car parked round the corner... Fancy coming for a walk.....

I'm thinking only 2 of these were gun free zones. Sooooo............. I'm stumped :-\

I might just go with that.

Not all were. You said, "shootings like this DONT happen in Texas." They clearly do. Perhaps not at the alarming rate as other states, but they clearly happen.

1-4 were GFZ. Not sure about 5-6

Why was Lubys Cafeteria a gun free zone? Its a cafeteria in a public space. Are all cafeterias in public spaces gun free zones? ??? ???

I stand corrected. I thought UT was gun friendly at the time? Didn't the students go to their trucks and retrieve their deer rifles to pin Whitman down? ???

Even if 5 were GFZ and 1 was not, AJ said that these shootings DONT happen in Texas. Even 1 incident nullifies his statement. A more appropriate statement should have been, "Mass shootings dont happen as frequently as they do in other states."
Not to be picky or anything. ;)

To be fair, number 3 was Islamic terrorism.

Yes, it feels good to win an internet argument. I may go to Red Mango to celebrate. Frozen yogurt for the win!

AJ, you should go to Egypt and bring your gun and show them who's boss!!

Nothing is 100%.
Also, can we Do some sort of statistical analysis to see if there is a relevant correlation between is lam and violence.

After that mass shooting they increased security in tourist areas and made it pretty safe. Now after the "revolution" ::) I'm not so sure.

Sadly, possession of a weapon is highly illegal in Egypt. That's why there's no crime.

Just some practical thinking: suppose you are on some beach in your swimwear. Where do you leave all your guns?
Does an AR-15 fit in a bikini?

Someone post the pic of the Israeli army chicks with guns on at the beach for this sympathizer.

I guess europeans will now completely avoid going to maghreb -north africa- , which means less jobs as tourism is the number one business there. So more muslims unable to find work will have to migrate to...europe for jobs. Absurdity at its finest.
I also like how the terrorists criticize europeans for being decadent, yet they wont attack the rich cheicks than finance them and bang whores and do coke daily... Stupid puppets.

We went through that ITT. 1-4 are GFZ.

Also that last one on that list makes it sound more deadly than it was. A lot of the injured were hurt by getting trampled, etc.... It was a huge party that had a gang fight start in the middle of it.

True, and technically, #5 is an armed B&E, and is hardly inside the definition of "legal carry", but I will let the final win stand for SF1900. He likes to win on the Internet :D

So, is there a common theme, and how do we stop these tragedies? ???

So, is there a common theme, and how do we stop these tragedies? ???
First of all, it's not a "tragedy", it's a crime. It's called "murder"
Second, unless you can change the basic tenets of the human condition, you can't stop it from happening. What you CAN do is give good people access to the best forms of self-defense available. Give the sheep horns and maybe you can reduce the rate at which the sheep are sowed.
Remember: when seconds count, the police are only minutes away!

You don't consider innocent women and children being shot down tragic?

So, arm the innocents, but do nothing to stop the criminals?
Remember: when seconds count, the police are only minutes away!
Agreed, sometimes 30 minutes away.
-
Can't quote your inline comments, but...
Slaughter of innocents is always a horror, but let's reserve "tragedy" for things outside human control.
And you're missing my point, "arming of innocents" is the most effective way to "stop the criminals". Criminals can't be criminals until the point the they are committing a crime. Please google the term "prior restraint" to see the legal precedents.
-

I would like more reading material on the above. What are the proven statistics? If criminals can't be criminals until the point that they are committing a crime; then essentially they were innocent people with guns, up to the point that they started shooting? If that is the case, why would you condone arming more innocent people?
Also, what are your thoughts on mandatory background checks for any firearm purchase or transfer? Would that have any effect at all?
-

Lord, the Internet is full of statistics. Look up the work of John Lott.
So far, all of the recent attacks have been with either illegally obtained weapons or by first time psychos that were subjected to a background check and passed, so evidence suggests that background checks don't really do shit.
-

AJ scraping the bottom of the barrel to try and prove his point. It doesn't matter that some people were trampled or not. It was all still the result of a gun being drawn and fired.
Either way, it's not a win. You made a statement and I provided evidence contrary to your statement.
-

I just read an article by Lott. He makes some very good points, but I couldn't find any statistics to back up the points. I will take his word for it though, more guns = less shootings.
So, your stance on mandatory background checks for the sale or transfer of firearms is that it would be pointless?
-
Either way, it's not a win. You made a statement and I provided evidence contrary to your statement.
It's not a "win" for either side. All this discussion demonstrates is that places with strict gun laws/control are subject to the same problems as those with more lenient restrictions.

Yes, so why not side with more freedom? Progressives recoil from gun rights because it infringes upon their belief that the state should have an absolute monopoly on the ability to do violence.

I'm with you.
If shit is going to happen regardless (as it does), I want every chance available to me to protect myself and my loved ones. It's not a guarantee by any stretch, but if it's my only chance, then I want at least that chance!!
Who wouldn't, and why wouldn't they?
I've never understood the bottom line submissiveness of good people who support keeping guns out of their own hands.

I've come to believe it is because progressives have zero self-control over their actions. They know that if they had a gun, they would use it in passion. They cannot comprehend that others possess such control.
Plus, for a progressive, the state is their God and it offends them that anyone would choose a path that isn't endorsed by the state.
Progressives are truly mentally ill.

At least 30 brits dead now
