4 Marines killed in attacks on Chattanooga military facilities
Last Updated Jul 16, 2015
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- A gunman unleashed a barrage of gunfire at two military facilities Thursday in Tennessee, killing at least four Marines and wounding a soldier and a police officer, officials told CBS News. The suspect also was killed.
Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke said five people died in all, including the gunman. Two law enforcement sources told CBS News that the shooting suspect was identified as Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez.
U.S. Attorney Bill Killian said officials were treating the attacks as an "act of domestic terrorism," though FBI Special Agent in Charge Ed Reinhold said authorities were still investigating a motive.
Officials told CBS News correspondent David Marin that four U.S. Marines were among the dead and another was injured. The U.S. Marines released a statement saying that the injured Marine was a recruiter who was treated and released after sustaining a wound to the leg.
A police officer also was shot in the ankle and is expected to be ok.
"Lives have been lost from some faithful people who have been serving our country, and I think I join all Tennesseans in being both sickened and saddened by this," Gov. Bill Haslam said.
A facility 7 miles away on Old Lee Highway also was attacked. Brian Lepley, a spokesman with the U.S. Army Recruiting Command in Fort Knox, Kentucky, said his recruiters there were told by law enforcement that the shooter was in a car, stopped in front of the facility, shot at the building and drove off.
The Army recruiters at the facility told Lepley they were not hurt and had evacuated; Lepley said he had no information about recruiters for the other branches at the facility.
Sgt. 1st Class Robert Dodge, 36, is the center leader for U.S. Army recruiting at the facility on Old Lee Highway. He said four Army personnel were in the office at the time. He said the Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and National Guard all have their own offices right next to each other. Around 10:30 or 10:45 a.m., Dodge and the others heard a gunshot, "which kind of sparked our attention," he said.
"Shortly after that, just a few seconds, the shooter began shooting more rounds. We realized it was an actual shooting," he said. They then got on the ground and barricaded themselves in a safe place. Dodge estimated there were 30 to 50 shots fired.
He did not see the shooter or a vehicle.
The Army recruiting office was not damaged, but doors and glass were damaged at the neighboring Air Force, Navy and Marine offices.
Reinhold said all the dead were killed at the Navy Operational Support Center and Marine Corps Reserve Center Chattanooga. It sits between Amnicola Highway and a pathway that runs through Tennessee RiverPark, a popular park at a bend in the Tennessee River northeast of downtown Chattanooga. It's in a light industrial area that includes a Coca-Cola bottling plant and Binswanger Glass.
The two entrances to the fenced facility have unmanned gates and concrete barriers that require approaching cars to slow down to drive around them.
Marilyn Hutcheson, who works at Binswanger Glass just across the street, said she heard a barrage of gunfire 11 a.m.
"I couldn't even begin to tell you how many," she said. "It was rapid fire, like pow pow pow pow pow, so quickly. The next thing I knew, there were police cars coming from every direction."
She ran inside, where she remained locked down with other employees and a customer. The gunfire continued with occasional bursts she estimated for 20 minutes.
"We're apprehensive," Hutcheson said. "Not knowing what transpired, if it was a grievance or terroristic related, we just don't know."
They've seen dozens of emergency vehicles rush by: bomb teams, SWAT teams, and state, local and federal authorities.
The Armed Forces Career Center on Lee Highway sits in a short strip between a Cricket Wireless and an Italian restaurant with no apparent additional security.
Near the other shooting location on Lee Highway, Nicholas Donohue heard a blast of gunshots while working at Desktop Solutions. But he had music playing and wasn't quite sure what the noise had been. He turned off the music and seconds later, a second blast thundered. He took shelter in a back room.
"Even though it knew it was most likely gunfire I heard, you also don't want to believe it's happening in the moment," he said. "Since I didn't see anything, I couldn't be sure."
By the time he emerged, police were cordoning off the area.

the cool thing about "I hope this wasn't..." is that you can interject religion, politics, and blame into a tragedy without even knowing the facts.
On the lib boards, they're using "I hope this wasn't a confedrate-flag flying obama-hating gun nut", showing equal immaturity and ignorance.

Gunman identified in shooting deaths of 4 Marines at Tennessee Navy facility
Published July 16, 2015
FoxNews.com
BREAKING NEWS: The gunman who shot and killed four Marines Thursday during two attacks at military facilities in Chattanooga, Tenn., has been identified as Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez, a law enforcement souce confirmed to Fox News.
The Associated Press reported Abdulazeez, 24, was believed to have been born in Kuwait, although it was not clear if he was a U.S. or Kuwaiti citizen. He was reported to be from Hixson, Tenn., just across the river from Chattanooga.
The law enforcement source said preliminary reports indicate Abdulazeez, who also died, was not on the FBI's radar leading up to Thursday's attacks.
The gunman first shot up a recruiting center before driving to the Navy Operational Support Center and Marine Corps Reserve Center and killing four Marines before he was shot, authorities said. Sources told Fox News police chased the gunman from the recruiting center to the Center, where the killings took place.
“We are treating this as an act of domestic terrorism,” said Bill Killian, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee.
The names of the Marines who were reportedly shot were not immediately released pending notification of their families. The Navy Operational Support Center and Marine Corps Reserve Center lies along a bend in the Tennessee River, northeast of downtown Chattanooga.
Despite Killian's statement, an FBI Special Agent Ed Reinhold told reporters that it may have been a criminal act. The gunman was killed, but authorities did not comment on his identity, motivation or the circumstances of his death. Authorities said the gunman did not work at either military facility.
Marilyn Hutcheson, who works at Binswanger Glass just across the street from the center on Amnicola Highway, said she heard a barrage of gunfire around 11 a.m.

"I couldn't even begin to tell you how many," she said. "It was rapid fire, like pow pow pow pow pow, so quickly. The next thing I knew, there were police cars coming from every direction."
President Obama was briefed by his national security team on the shooting involving two military sites, according to White House spokesman Eric Schultz.
In the first incident, the gunman, in a silver Mustang, drove up to the Armed Forces Career Center in a strip mall on Lee's Highway and sprayed the facade with gunfire before driving off, officials said. An unidentified police officer was shot in the ankle, but not seriously injured, according to reports.
A federal law enforcement official told Fox News that officers from FBI's Knoxville field office responded to the scene.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reported that there is a heavy police presence at the scene, along with five ambulances.
The Federal Aviation Administration said it was holding departing flights at their gates in Chattanooga, with delays projected to last 15 minutes or less.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Four Marines Killed in Chattanooga Shootings

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Four United States Marines were killed Thursday after a gunman opened fire at two military facilities here, and the federal authorities said they were investigating the episode as an act of domestic terrorism.
The gunman, identified by the Federal Bureau of Investigation as Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez, 24, was also killed, and several others, including a police officer and a Marine Corps recruiter, were wounded. A senior Congressional official who had been briefed by law enforcement officials said Mr. Abdulazeez was a Kuwaiti-born Jordanian who became a naturalized citizen. (Earlier reports spelled the gunman’s name as Muhammad Youssef Abdulazeez.)
“Somebody brutally and brazenly attacked members of our armed services,” the Chattanooga police chief, Fred Fletcher, said at a news conference, where Mayor Andy Berke described Thursday as “a nightmare for the city.”
The gunman was not on the government’s radar, but law enforcement officials said that Mr. Abdulazeez’s father had been under investigation several years ago for possible ties to a foreign terrorist organization. At one point, a law enforcement official said that the father was on a terrorist watch list and was questioned while on a trip abroad but that he was eventually removed from the list. The official cautioned that the investigation of the father was old and did not generate any information on the son.

A booking photo, taken in April and released by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office in Tennessee, shows a man identified as Mohammod Youssuf Abdulazeez.
President Obama told reporters Thursday in a brief statement in the Oval Office that, while all the details of the shooting were not yet known, the killings appeared to be the work of a lone gunman.
Mr. Obama expressed his “deepest sympathies” and described the deaths of the four Marines as “heartbreaking.”
“I’d ask all Americans to pray for the families who are grief-stricken at this point,” he said.
Jeh Johnson, the homeland security secretary, said in a statement that officials were “enhancing the security posture at certain federal facilities, out of an abundance of caution.”
Here in Chattanooga, the United States attorney for the Eastern District of Tennessee, William C. Killian, said that the F.B.I. was leading the investigation and that federal officials were “treating this as an act of domestic terrorism.” But he, like other federal officials, cautioned that the investigation would ultimately determine how the shooting would be classified.

Edward W. Reinhold, the special agent in charge of the bureau’s Knoxville division, said investigators had “not determined whether it was an act of terrorism or a criminal act.” He said he expected “several hundred” bureau employees to join the inquiry by the end of the day.
Investigators said the shootings unfolded over about 30 minutes at midmorning, first at a military recruiting center on Lee Highway and later at a Naval Reserve facility on Amnicola Highway less than 10 miles away. All of the fatalities occurred at the second scene, where Marines and sailors are trained for reserve duty.
Carolyn Taylor, an employee at Binswanger Glass, which has offices across the street from the Navy building on Amnicola Highway, said she had heard scores of gunshots in the hours before city officials announced, at around 1:15 p.m., that the “active shooter situation” had concluded.
“At least 100, at least, because it was several at one time,” said Ms. Taylor, who added that police officers had swarmed into the area, their weapons drawn, “and then, within seconds, we heard the gunfire.”
David Vaughn, 56, the president of VMO Graphics Inc., a commercial printer nearby, said he quickly locked down his plant after hearing gunshots and seeing an officer behind a police cruiser pointing a gun toward the reserve center.
The printing staff was quickly joined, Mr. Vaughn said, by employees and customers from Binswanger Glass, who fled across the street when the police searched the store.
They waited for hours, he said, watching television, talking and occasionally looking through a glass door to the wooded area the highway where the reserve center is. They saw a number of officers walk into the woods carrying shotguns after putting on bulletproof vests.
Mr. Vaughn said they were worried. “Are they coming this way? Are there more than one? It was unknown at that moment,” he said. Hours later, the police gave them an all-clear.
Officials said they believed that before the rampage at the reserve building, formally known as the Navy Operational Support Center, the gunfire began at an armed forces recruiting center tucked into a khaki-colored strip mall where the green hills of eastern Tennessee are visible in the distance. On Thursday afternoon, more than 20 bullet casings littered the parking lot.
Yellow police tape restricted access to the lot, but numerous bullet holes were visible in the plate glass of the recruiting center, which is wedged between a mobile phone retailer and an Italian restaurant. The bullet holes formed a rough horizontal line, suggesting that the gunman sprayed the weapon from one side to the other.
A gunman opened fire at a military recruiting office at about 10:45 a.m. Thursday. A police chase ensued, and several people were killed at a naval reserve center about 30 minutes later.
Michael Usher, 37, a Chattanooga resident, was waiting near the tape for word from his wife, Jackie Barber, who works at the phone store. He said that she had told him the business was having a good day when the employees heard two pops. “Pow pow,” he recalled.
Then, his wife told him, “It was rapid shots: pow pow pow pow pow pow.”
The workers dived to the ground and crawled to the back of the store. A few minutes later, Mr. Usher said, they emerged and saw a man in a Ford Mustang quickly leave the parking lot.
The day of gunfire unnerved Chattanooga, one of Tennessee’s largest cities and a place known more for its scenery and tourism than talk of terrorism and violence. After the shootings, local universities ordered lockdowns, and officials investigated reports of gunfire at the Bradley Square Mall, located in the Chattanooga suburb of Cleveland.
But much of the speculation turned out to be unfounded.
“There have been no shots fired at Bradley Square Mall,” the mall’s management said on its Facebook page, which added that a lockdown it had imposed was “a safety precaution.”
In Chattanooga, however, the horror was vivid and wrenching. In a statement, the Navy secretary, Ray Mabus, called the shootings “both devastating and senseless.”
He added, “While we expect our sailors and Marines to go into harm’s way, and they do so without hesitation, an attack at home, in our community, is insidious and unfathomable.”

Read Chattanooga Shooter’s Blog
The killer of four U.S. Marines in Chattanooga maintained a short-lived blog that hinted at his religious inner life. Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez's blog had only two posts, both published July 13 and written in a popular style of Islamic religious reasoning.
The first post was entitled "A Prison Called Dunya," referring to the temporal world. In it, Abdulazeez uses the hypothetical example of a prisoner who is told he would be given a test that would either take him out of his earthly prison—or send him into a more restrictive environment.
"I would imagine that any sane person would devote their time to mastering the information on the study guide and stay patient with their studies, only giving time for the other things around to keep themselves focused on passing the exam," Abdulazeez wrote. "They would do this because they know and have been told that they will be rewarded with pleasures that they have never seen."
This life is that test, he wrote, "designed to separate the inhabitants of Paradise from the inhabitants of Hellfire."
The second post is called "Understanding Islam: The Story of the Three Blind Men." It suggests Abdulazeez felt his fellow Muslims had a "certain understanding of Islam and keep a tunnel vision of what we think Islam is."
He uses the example of blind men who feel an elephant but can't quite tell what the creature is. He says Muslims have a similar understanding of the earliest companions of the Prophet Muhammad. That they were "like priests living in monasteries is not true," he says; rather they were "towards the end of the lives were either a mayor of a town, governor of a state, or leader of an army at the frontlines."
"We ask Allah to make us follow their path," Abdulazeez wrote. "To give us a complete understanding of the message of Islam, and the strength the live by this knowledge, and to know what role we need to play to establish Islam in the world."

Obama is very quick with the excecutive orders....illigal shitbags, fags, transgenders etc etc...resind the nanny law that will then allow anybody with a CCP to carry on a DOD installation. Seems like I should not have to check my 2nd Amendment rights at that front gate. Actually I didn't today...I took the Kimber out of mothballs...loaded in some hollow points and shoved it under my car seat for the drive in. Wont do me much good in the office but we have armed security guards and a couple of biometric doors before I get smoked.

Tennessee terror suspect was armed to the teeth and ready for war with America
Published July 17, 2015
FoxNews.com
The suspected Tennessee terrorist who killed four Marines was heavily armed and bent on waging war against America, according to local, state and federal authorities who spoke Friday, a day after the shocking attack at a military facility in Chattanooga.
Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez, 24, a Kuwaiti-born Chattanooga resident who was killed by police to end his rampage, used an AK-47 to gun down the unarmed Marines after crashing into a gate at the Navy Operations Support Center, according to Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, the chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee. And the troubled gunman, who officials believe had become increasingly radicalized in recent months, wore an ammo vest with multiple rounds of ammunition, while carrying other weapons.
"Based on my experience, I think he was radicalized by these individuals in Syria."
- Rep. Mike McCaul, R-Texas
"Some of the weapons were purchased legally and some may not have been. We will examine that," FBI Special Agent in Charge Ed Reinhold said, speaking at a news conference in Chattanooga hours after McCaul gave his briefing.
In addition to the small arsenal Abdulazeez brought for his maniacal spree, authorities are investigating recent travels by the apparent Islamic radical, including a trip to Jordan in 2014 and another possible jaunt to Yemen.
Sources close to the investigation told Fox News authorities are trying to determine whether Abdulazeez had any contact with extremists during his seven-month stay in Jordan. Abdulazeez is believed to have traveled to the Middle East between April and November 2014.
Authorities continued to search Abdulazeez's computer Friday, but had not found an extensive online presence and had not uncovered evidence suggesting he was directly inspired by the Islamic State.
The FBI is investigating two blog posts written on Monday to determine if Abdulazeez was behind them, including one that proclaimed that life is "short and bitter" and urged readers to "submit to Allah," the Wall Street Journal reported.
The National Counterterrorism Center said it is still reviewing its data holdings and watch lists and have so far found no positive hits for Abdulazeez, though it emphasized the review is ongoing.
At approximately 10:50 a.m. Thursday, the gunman opened fire from his silver Mustang convertible at a military recruitment center in a strip mall east of downtown Chattanooga, where one Marine was wounded. Authorities said the shooter then drove 7 miles to a Navy Operations Support Center, crashing his car through a security gate before opening fire on four Marines, killing them. A police officer and sailor were also wounded.
McCaul said Friday he believes Abdulazeez was radicalized online by ISIS members or their supporters in Syria.
"Based on my experience, I think he was radicalized by these individuals in Syria," he said during a press conference at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.
"This is a new generation of terrorists," said McCaul, who was briefed on the case by the FBI. "The threat is real and it comes from the Internet."
"They don't have to travel to Iraq and Syria," he added. "They're already here."
The FBI said Friday afternoon it could not confirm Abdulazeez was inspired by ISIS. Federal authorities also declined to elaborate on the specific weapons used. Reinhold told reporters during a separate news conference that Abdulazeez had "at least two long guns and one hand gun."
"Some of the weapons were purchased legally and some may not have been. We will examine that," Reinhold said.
Abdulazeez got an engineering degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2012 and worked as an intern a few years ago at the Tennessee Valley Authority, the federally owned utility that operates power plants and dams across the South. For the last three months, he had been working at Superior Essex Inc., which designs and makes wire and cable products.
In April, he was arrested on a drunken driving charge, and a mugshot showed him with a bushy beard. In earlier photos, he was clean-shaven.
Hussnain Javid said they graduated a few years apart from Red Bank High School in Chattanooga, where Abdulazeez was on the wrestling team and a popular student.
"He was very outgoing," said Javid, a 21-year-old senior at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. "Everyone knew of him."
Javid said he occasionally saw Abdulazeez at the Islamic Society of Greater Chattanooga, but the last time was roughly a year ago.

one of the volunteers had an accidential discharge outside of a military recruiting center he was guarding.
Charge his ass. I doubt they will. Trying to help, that's great, but if you're so poorly trained you can't prevent an accidential fcking discharge? That's like EXTREME newbie gun mistake, or just being careless (more likely). Charge his ass. If this was some dude hanging on the corner drinking a slurpee and his gun fires, you charge him.
Armed man fires accidental shot near recruit center
Source: Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
An armed volunteer guarding the U.S. Army Recruiting Center accidentally fired a shot just after noon, according to Lancaster police.
Christopher Reed, 28, of Lancaster, is one of the volunteers who have been guarding the Lancaster recruiting site following the shooting and killing of five service members at an unguarded recruiting center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, last week.
The volunteers were a group of citizens who are guarding recruiting centers across the country. Their goal is to not stop guarding the recruiting centers until members of the military at recruiting centers were able to arm themselves for protection.
According to a Lancaster police report, the shooting occurred between 11:30 a.m. and 12:01 p.m. outside the recruiting office, 1534 River Valley Circle.

Some pretty whacked priorities.
What’s happening to this heroic Navy officer from the Chattanooga shooting will make your blood BOIL

Lt-Cmdr-Timothy-White
I never like to be reactionary and follow anything that may just be hyperbole or conspiracy theory. That’s why I held off on addressing this issue until I got confirmation — which came Friday afternoon via text message.
There are things which make you just upset, like the liberal progressive left and media accomplices’ rage over the shooting of a lion in Africa but abject disregard and disdain reference Planned Parenthood dismembering babies and selling their body parts.
But this story has me dog fighting mad and seriously pissed off.
As reported ten days ago by Western Journalism, “A Navy officer and Marine reportedly returned fire at the shooter who killed five service members in Chattanooga, Tenn., even though current policy does not permit military members to carry firearms on facilities such as those where the attack occurred.
The cold-blooded assault killed four Marines and one active-duty Navy reservist. The center’s commanding officer, Lt. Cmdr. Timothy White, used his personal firearm to engage the shooter during the attack, according to sources quoted in the Navy Times. A report from The Washington Post said that one of the Marines killed in the shooting might have been carrying a 9 mm Glock and possibly returned fire on the shooter.
At the time, Western Journalism wrote, Lt. Cmdr. White could face disciplinary action for violating policy about possessing a weapon on the facility that was supposedly a gun-free zone. The investigation into the attack is ongoing, and authorities will not know if White or the Marine hit the shooter until an autopsy and a ballistics report have been completed.
Ladies and gents, resulting from the text message I received yesterday, I can confirm that the United States Navy is bringing charges against Lt. Cmdr Timothy White for illegally discharging a firearm on federal property.
The text message asked if it would be possible for Lt.Cmdr White to reach out to me. To wit I replied, affirmative.
What kind of freaking idiots are in charge of our Armed Forces — pardon me, our “unArmed Forces”? What would they prefer that Abdulazeez had been able to kill all the Marines and Sailors at the Naval Support Reserve Center? Let me draw an interesting contrast: Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus is more concerned about lifting the ban on transgendered Sailors. Mabus has a problem in that for the first time since 2007 the US Navy will not have a Carrier Battle Group operating in the Persian Gulf. But this knucklehead has no problem with the Navy seeking to destroy the career of a Sailor, a commander of an installation, returning fire against an Islamic jihadist attack. I do not care if it was his personal weapon, he deserves a medal for facing the enemy.
Folks, this has become the Obama military that will not implement policies for our men and women in uniform to be protected — but will punish them if they do protect themselves. What ever happened to the Navy of John Paul Jones, Farragut, Halsey, and Nimitz? What has happened in our America where we believe that our men and women in uniform — especially the commanders — are just targets for these damn Islamic jihadists?
Can you imagine the message this sends to ISIS and all the enemies of America? We are going to end his career and court-martial a man who drew his sidearm to protect his command, and the assigned Sailors and Marines.
What is the difference between Lt. Cmdr White and the reserve officer in Moore, Oklahoma who went to his vehicle and armed himself to prevent a second woman from being beheaded? Is it that we expect less from our uniformed warriors? Are they just supposed to sit and be butchered, gunned down, until local law enforcement come along? Let’s be very clear here, I can attest that there are many reserve and National Guard troops who are carrying concealed during their drill periods…why? Because they are lions, not sheep, like the imbeciles who are making the decision to punish Lt. Cmdr White.
Doggone, what does it take? Here we have a known deserte,r Bowe Bergdahl, out getting picked up smoking marijuana, or at a house growing marijuana. According to Susan Rice, he served with honor and distinction. The real men of honor such as Army 1LT Clint Lorance, and now it seems Lt. Cmdr White, are forced into jail.
Ponder this, Obama will pardon drug dealers, but men who fight the enemy are imprisoned? Now, can someone, any one of you inane characterless liberal progressive trolls explain that to me? Explain it to us that you would rather have had more Sailors and Marines die than for this Navy Commander to draw his personal weapon in defense of his command. That’s what the Naval Support Center was for Lt. Cmdr White — his responsibility to defend, protect.
Here we have a president and secretary of state sitting down with a sworn enemy in Iran who holds four Americans hostage, and we’re going to bring charges against an American Naval Commander who returned fire against the enemy.
This is indeed FUBAR!
Here’s what needs to happen. Flood the phone of SecNav Ray Mabus and SecDef Carter and ask them whose side they’re. Demand the charges being brought against Lt.Cmdr White be immediately dropped. If those charges are not dropped, I will personally lead the charge to have Carter and Mabus removed from their positions.
America, this cannot be tolerated and must not be allowed to stand. I guess the life of an African lion means more to these liberal progressives than one of our brave Sailors. It is beyond belief that the Navy would embark upon this folly — they could simply issue a “local letter of reprimand” that would not enter into Lt. Cmdr White’s permanent personnel file — then immediately pin a medal upon his chest and fast track him for promotion to Commander.
White exemplifies the highest and finest of character and tradition of the US Navy. Those who would bring charges against him are indeed cowards and need be exposed.
Lieutenant Commander Timothy White, I await your call, and I will not rest until these charges against you have been dropped. You stay strong. You showed that you are Steadfast and Loyal. And we will not allow you to be abandoned to the perfumed princes of the Pentagon…and the White House. America shall rally to your cause!
This is just another in the long line of reasons why we must NEVER allow a progressive socialist to be commander-in-chief.

'would rather be tried by 12 than carried by 6'.
The same goes for every pizza man, hospital worker, mall worker, security guard, whoever, that decides their personal safety is worth more than the consequences for the rules violation. It's awesome he protected, but he DID violate legal documents he signed, he DID violate the law by carrying in a non-carry zone, and it was probably a felony that he did over and over.
I guess what I'm saying is - are you 100% cool with EVERY PERSON in the USA, carrying in EVERY anti-gun place? Jails? Courthouses? Schools? Or just when it happens to save the day?
I'm all for expanded carry, but you can't just ignore laws when convenient. I taught for 7 years in very rough schools where some of those kids DID have weapons, and I left my weapon in the car, even though it TOTALLY sucked to do that. Cause i knew, even if I stopped someone bad, it'd be due to my committing a felony and carrying in a no-no zone.
just follow the rules, stop making exceptions. if you dislike it, make some better fcking rules.
-
And that is the kind of simplistic thought process that results in stupid prosecutions like this.

it's actually pretty simple. Carry a gun a no-gun zone, and it's a felony.
I don't get to carry my gun, 99% of teh others don't get to carry, but this man just decides to?
No matter the outcome, he did commit a felony, over and over. Now, if you want to say felonies are okay if we don't agree with the law, go ahead and say that, but don't compain when someone sells crack on your porch or steals your car.

I know right? The Pizza Hut delivery guy will be shooting up the place.
Holy smokes. :-[

in either case, the military has decided to charge the man. They agree with me, not you. It's the law, and it sucks, and it needs changed, but people can't just pick and choose. The mans' a hero, but he also broke the law quite a bit if he carried every day, when law-abidind people could not.
-
Yes, sometimes people both in and out of the military make stupid decisions.

dont get me wrong, the dude is a hero. I think they should charge him, but let him plead with some minor slap on wrist. If they don't do anything, then 100,000 people will bring their gun to work tomorrrow, against rules, because 'they didn't charge that one guy..."
the bigger issue is the lack of security. I was shocked to find some jackass can get in there like that with a weapon. I have to walk thru metal detector and stare at a militant security guard and get my drivers license renewed thru thick glass.... and they don't protect our military with anywhere near that level?
I'm glad he did what he did, and hope they charge him but let him off very easily.

Yes, 100,000 people will bring their guns to work. We will have shootouts at employer coffee stations nationwide. Utter pandemonium. :o
