Is Victor Martinez considered a "legend" in the sport of bodybuilding? The bodybuilding show that he is representing is called "Legends." Or is he just a "legend" in his own mind? It will take place on August 22nd in NYC (Lehman College).
From July 25th to today, hes made about 22-25 posts about this "legends" competition. Why does he so desperately need people to attend? ??? ???

Not sure if he was a legend but was pretty damn good. Genetically gifted shape and response to drugs. Too bad he couldn't keep his criminal behavior in check or else he could have accomplished a lot more. Maybe even been mr olympia.
-
He's was an uncrowned Mr Olympia in an extremely weak line-up in 2007, you gotta give him that. Legend? No...

He had good genetics, just could never dial it in for a lot of reasons.

A legend is defined:
an extremely famous or notorious person, especially in a particular field.
The question is: Does Vic classify as extremely famous or notorious in the bbing industry?
These are the deep questions we ponder as getbiggers.
-
Using tons of gear and never winning jack doesn't constitute you as a legend Vic.
-
2007 uncrowned mr. Olympia ....in 30 years from now he could be considered a legend just as much as Mike Mentzer is now.
WooOSSHHHHHHHHHH
-
I love how humble these guys are. He's not a legend. Not yet. Dexter is a legend. Ronnie is a legend. Arnold is a legend. Not Victor.
-
No, not a legend. Very good though. Could have been but it was not to be.
-
Real Mr. Olympia in 2007:

Hi, ND. You seem to have some pretty harsh words about Vic. PM me. We can talk about it.

Should have called it the "Ex-Con Classic".

Actually I'm not even sure if he was robbed in 2007, Jay was very bad that year but still crushed him in terms of size and thickness.
I means srsly, that's like a different weight class... ::)

Good move, pushing out his biceps and covering his man tits in one.
-
Ronnie Coleman is a legend because of his bodybuilding prowess.
Craig Titus is a legend because of his criminal behavior.
Unfortunately for Victor Martinez, his degree of both bodybuilding and criminality are both too mediocre to be considered legendary. He is, by all accounts, quite forgettable even now in a time where he could be relevant.

Real Mr. Olympia in 2007:
The funniest thing about that video is that Cutler is far worse than all five of the guys he beat that year. Worst fix ever.
-
He's not even close to a legend in bodybuilding.
He's on no one's Top-10 list
No Mr Olympia wins
No Olympia's he "should" have won

Good but not hardly a legend.
-
Feel bad for Vic for all he has been through, but sorry; not quite a legend.
-
Arnold yes, Ronnie yes, Samir yes. Victor no. Legend is given to the Mr O's.

Is Chris Dickerson a legend then? A forgettable mr O
-
Is Chris Dickerson a legend then? A forgettable mr O
Absolutely not.
Think about other sports, for example. The word "legend" doesn't typically signify just a champion. I mean, how many champions have there been in baseball? But how many legendary teams are there? And how many MVP's are out there? Surely they are not all legends. Hell I wonder how many are even in the Hall of Fame...
It might be hard to define the word, but it should signify a high degree of greatness and some degree of extreme.
If that's the case, then maybe Victor has an argument for legendary disappointment. He's certainly one of the biggest underachievers of our time.
-
As the saying goes, he's a legend in his own mind. And a very small mind it is.
-
Winning an Olympia doesn't make one a legend. ::)
-
Actually I'm not even sure if he was robbed in 2007, Jay was very bad that year but still crushed him in terms of size and thickness.

That's pretty ridiculous that's like 40lbs difference

He looked a bit like Wheeler in that pic/pose.

Arturo Gatti= Legend
-
The shits I take are more legendary than Vic will ever be. I mean, granted, he might be a bodybuilding legend in the Dominican Republic. Or even New York. But a bodybuilding legend ... in all of bodybuilding ... no ... just no. Not even close either.
-
Just another self-glosser like kobe
-
Shawn Ray is a legend.
Levrone is a legend.
But not Victor Martinez.
-
Not a legend but definitely should have been 07 Mr. O.
-
Shawn Ray is a legend.
Levrone is a legend.
But not Victor Martinez.
lol Shawn Ray is a legend LMAO ;D that was a good one.
-
I used to train at the same gym as Victor. Probably got to watch him train ~25 times or so. The dude just doesn't care about anything. His demeanor is beyond just laid back and nonchalant...he simply doesn't give a fuck. He's not a rude or unfriendly guy, but he just shows zero emotion, whether it's to his training partners or a shmoe. His workouts are just going through the motions. Granted, he's probably nearing his mid-40s and has had a ton of injuries, but you'd be amazed at how little effort can go into maintaining a top-10 Olympia physique (drugs aside).
He's gotten some bad hands in life, some his fault, but many beyond his control.
Legend? No way. A great bodybuilder in an era without many other great bodybuilders? Sure.
-
:)
-
:)
kid-n-roid...^^^^
-
Not a legend, but worthy of respect in bodybuilding. If this was boxing, he'd be a high level journeyman, he's like the Andrew Golota of bodybuilding.
-
a legend for sure
first bodybuilder put in jail for using expired green card
involved in family member murder case
failed to run a restaurant business
-
lol Shawn Ray is a legend LMAO ;D that was a good one.
How is he not ? He was practically Mr. Consistent for many, many, MANY years. And, on top of that, he literally had NO flaws.
-

He has plenty of flaws mostly personality related but also poor quad sweep, weak delts, narrow clavicles and zero glute separation.
-
But that MHP pic of Vic is just insane. What shape he had, a few flaws but everyone does...
-

Jay definitely the winner.

Jay has him.
-
his muscle grill failed
he has been in jail
never was a top bodybuilder
persona: so-so and not so likeable
so legend? no
-
Jay is definitely taking him from the back.
Yeah, Jay is showing everybody how to have a wrinkly back.
-
Yeah, Jay is showing everybody how to have a wrinkly back.
His Glutes had wrinkles too
Jay was big.... But Jay was way off that year.
-
If you had to rank VM where would you put him? If we were talking just 2000's, I could see top 15, maybe low top 10. All time though, he'd be somewhere in the #25 - 50 range just going off the top of my head.
-
.............. right .......... might want to re-look at some of Shawn's pics ..........
Hi Sasha!
-
He has plenty of flaws mostly personality related but also poor quad sweep, weak delts, narrow clavicles and zero glute separation.
Shawn was able to piss off Lee Haney, Dorian Yates, Flex Wheeler, Ect...
Even mellow guys like Levrone and Vince Taylor had not so great things to say about Shawn.
That alone made him a legend
-
Victor is an old buddy.
Whether he is a legend or not depends on what constitutes a legend within an activity that requires no direct competition between two individuals and instead relies on the subjective opinion of a set of judges. This isn't like one of your many professional sports where two entities compete and you usually have a clear-cut winner (think Olympic swimming, runners, boxing, baseball, soccer, football, basketball etc).
When you define legend, at least based off of what you find on the internet, you get this:
an extremely famous or notorious person, especially in a particular field
The only individual within the bodybuilding industry that could be said to be "extremely" famous is probably Arnold Schwarzenegger. When you consider all the other Mr. Olympia winners, outside of the small bodybuilding cult, no one really knows who they are. You can go anywhere in the world and odds are that someone will always recognize Arnold, but good luck asking some random kid in the middle of Russia who the fuck Jay Cutler, Ronnie Coleman, Dexter Jackson or Phil Heath is.
With that same token, if you were to look at it through a much smaller scope, Victor is famous and notorious within the bodybuilding industry, not for the right reasons, but certainly fits the bill for both.
He got arrested and caused a few ripples through the industry (This covers the notorious aspect, since it would satisfy the definition of notorious - widely and unfavorably known).
In terms of competitions, he won these (grants him some level of fame, particularly within this small industry, as famous defined means - known or recognized by very many people):
2000 NPC Nationals, Heavyweight, 1st and Overall
2003 IFBB Night of Champions, 1st
2004 IFBB GNC Show of Strength Pro Championship, 1st
2007 IFBB Arnold Classic, 1st
2011 IFBB Arnold Classic Madrid, 1st
2013 IFBB Toronto Pro Supershow, 1st
2014 IFBB Wings Of Strength PBW Tampa Pro, 1st
You make the call. I think the only legend in professional bodybuilding is Arnold.
