A 1942 Model “anything” is a collectable because the car factories closed down shortly after Pearl Harbor to retool for the War.

No, I believe it is another builder that can use the name. They do the Trans Am, too (I believe that is true).

Yes, it could be missing all over the place and it probably would still be the smoothest running. I know the hp doesn't seem right, but pretty sure it is.

no, no, it's right. My fuel injected v6 Volkswagen GTI puts out 200...I do admire classics, but give me for power plants modern fuel injection with microcomputers. I dislike the racket many gear-heads like their engines to make.

I much prefer the quiet, too. Bikes included. It might seem terrible to say, but some of the bikes I hear should be pulled from operation until the noise is lowered (any car making that much noise wouldn't get past the first cop).
Bikers I know get mad about that opinion, and some claim it's a safety issue, but if they are that concerned about safety then they should take up knitting or something.

Well yes, that is the engine and chassis used by the Car Customizer to make the "Truckster"...but really, any Ford from the 70's was just abysmal. American car makers were so resistant to Fuel Injection that when the emission standards came on line to try to arrest smog, they tried to make do with carburetors. The result was that American Car engines in the 70's ran like crap and were prone to "run-on dieseling"
Coupled with that fact, they also resisted disc brakes, lighter curb weights, firm suspension, and sprightly steering. This meant that these cars were a lot of "no fun at all."
-

;D Designing those crazy carbs must have involved lots of aspirin. Good luck getting one those vehicles to pass emissions, now, because I'd like to see even a single system that hasn't been altered over the years from its original design (automatic fail on smog in many places).
To be totally fair, though, 70s F-150 and 250s are still a common thing to see on the road.

I like that my truck doesn't need dealership diagnostics tho. I'm a fledgling mechanic, so perhaps not in the know, but computerized injection timing looks inaccessible to me for a backyard greasemonkey. One without your electronics background, that is.
I guess I could see it for zoom but with vans, a truck, and a backhoe I'm more about utility than performance. There's not a vehicle here that a self-respecting female would be caught dead in. ;D
Coolest vehicle I've seen for sale recently was an Oshkosh truck. 4 driven axles and a dashboard gauge for everything. Cargo tonnage that you'd never have to think about. That thing was badass. I was so tempted.

that paint is 20 years old. crosseyed designs. the guy was ahead of his time. and worked cheap. he does some NHL goalie masks now. bike won the world of wheels 3 times in the 90's. it was my buddies back then. he hit hard times and I bought it off him to help him out. he died shortly after.

I'd say it was the late 60s to 73-74, when the Muscle Car was king. The designers of that period really nailed "Badass."

While it is true that there was a very small penetration of fuel injection in special interest Vehicles (Corvette) and as options in others...The fact is that most Detroit cars were carbureted...It only changed when people started to notice that fuel injected engines could be made to start on the first attempt when they were cold...
-

It had more to do with the clean air act which went into effect in 1975 with a NOx standard for cars and light-duty trucks of 3.1 grams per mile (gpm). In 1977, Congress amends the Clean Air Act and tightens emission standards again in two steps. First, between 1977 and 1979, the NOx standard becomes 2.0 gpm for cars. Then in 1981, the NOx standard for cars is reduced to 1.0 gpm.
They had to reduce the compression of the engine which killed horse power. The catalytic converter and electronic fuel injection were the solutions the automotive companies came up with to meet the standards.
Customers see the biggest change in the way the cars look and feel. For example, the successor to the Nova was the Citation. So, in six years you see cars looking like the nova below becoming the citation.
For me this was the most interesting time in automotive history because the changes were so drastic. Others see this as the time cars went to shit and I can somewhat agree with them. I would much rather drive the Nova than the citation, but the fuel economy and emissions of the citation are better.
-

Lol WTF. I have never seen one of these.

Lol WTF. I have never seen one of these.
Really, they only sold 800,000 in 1980, but sales dropped off quickly.
I think the reason you never saw one was they all went to the crusher after they reached the 140,000 mile mark because they fell apart.

The A body was a stretched version of the X body and was used to create some decent cars including the Celebrity, Century, and Cutlass Ciera. My family had a Cutlass Ciera and it wasn't a bad car.
Cutlass Ciera was the car driven in the movie Fargo

Now that you mention it, I think more than a few of those Cieras can still be found driving around.

Malaise era cars...the cars that were embarassments, and helped the Japanese and Germans get a foothold and win over America. We may have won the hard war, but they won the soft war.
Germany and Japan were bombed out countries in 1946, but the people were intelligent and hard working. Is it any surprise that they were able to catch up to America 30 years later?
Call it malaise era if you want, but for me the most interesting time in automotive history was between 1974 and 1986. At no other time do you see the technology and engineering of cars change so rapidly.
A Chevrolet from 1974 may have looked different than a Chevrolet from 1955 but the engineering and technology changed very little.
-
You don't know shit about cars obviously.
The Corvette in 1957 was fuel injected. Moron.
Although the 1957 Corvette was fuel injected the fuel injected version only sold in small numbers. Volume production of fuel injected cars didn't start till 1967. By 1967, the Electrojector had been developed by Bosch into a marketable EFI system. The evolved Bosch design was called the D-Jetronic (D signifying “druck” which is German for pressure). Again, European automakers jumped on the idea. Citreon, Saab, Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, and Jaguar.
The first major production of fuel injection on an American car was the 1975 Seville. It was equipped with an EFI system developed by Bendix.
An ecm from a 1978 Cadillac Seville, this was a rudimentary analog computer at best. Note: this was from the MOST sophisticated American car produced in 1978. It shows you how far technology has come.
Motorola, an American based company, began producing the first Electronic Engine Control Modules for fuel injected engines in 1980. The primitive ecm shown above explains why this was such an important step. Called the EEC-III, this system was offered in North American Ford Motor Company Products.

My first fuel injected car was an ancient Scirrocco...My mother's first fuel injected car was a 1984 Ford Tempo. She was shocked at how it started the first time every time.

Rest in Peace, Tommy Magliozzi. It's been about a year since his passing.
A genuinely great guy with a way-out mind. Always finding a way to laugh his ass off about life, while making perfect sense of it, too.

Getbig, here is a sad story for you....
I recently made a wise financial decision but I regret it soooooooooo much....two years ago when I moved to California I got a brand new Dodge Charger RT, I got it fully loaded, with all types of goodies, navigation, Bluetooth, camera, Beats sound system, and of course the famous 5.7L Hemi V8 engine. I went all out.
I love American cars, and I loved my big bad Charger..
I got it in "Arab Red" and even slapped on a customized license plate, see images below...
But since I live in the San Francisco Bay area, I'm paying a fucking arm and a leg for rent, and given how picky I am, I am renting a nice, new spacious place, in an upscale part of town.
Now I make decent money and I have a prestigious job in a fortune 500 company, but it quickly dawned on me that I probably bit off more then I can chew... I didn't hold back when I got the car and I didn't hold back when I chose the house I'm renting... So something had to give... I don't want to move because I love my house despite my landlord jacking up the rent, so two months ago, pretty much over night, I decided to get rid of the car and get something much cheaper... My wife was even trying to talk me out of it but I was determined....
Like a simple guy, I got rid of my awesome muscle car and got a Ford Fusion (see image below)... I went from 375 HP to 175 HP. Now yeah the Ford is just fine and by making this trade I cut my car payments in half but god damn it do I miss the Power and the speed.... Almost the very next day I said to myself, I've made a horrible mistake... But it was too late.
I know I'm being financially responsible, and it feels good to have more money but damn it.... it freaking sucks making wise decisions.
It's funny, people keep complimenting me on the Ford and I'm like "really?"

Not an unwise decision at all my friend. Afterall, its just a car and there are millions of them. Focus on what is most important. (which you always do) You made the right decision and it will only benefit you in the future over time. Most people do not have that kind of foresight or are blind to it. Having that kind of reasoning and then acting on it is more valuable than any old Hemi.

blast from the past!! not a car, but I bought a vintage dirtbike tonite. 500 miles on it, original tires, great shape. all that's missing is the decals. it's a 1978 Suzuki PE 250

Yeeeeeeahhh.... But it still sucked lol... Principle had a lot to do with it, I was talking with my wife and were discussing how we do still save but out of principle, I couldn't go all out with the house and also with car , there needs to be responsibility some where.

You'll be getting far better fuel economy as well, especially if you got the 2.0 Ecoboost...
My Uncle lives in Hayward, and the amount of miles you have to drive around the bay area, especially if you socialize on weekends is astounding!!

What really makes me ANGRY is he used to basically control me, or as he called me "his best Staff Sergeant"
by giving me "rewards" for covering for him while he was doing whatever...
Religion was also used for a reward, if he saw me go to Mass service on Sunday he made sure I didn't have to do
the obstacle course in the afternoons, I'd be the only one in the gym from 2-4pm then I'd be off for the day!!!

A WTF moment that will never go away, I'd imagine. You probably started thinking back to a lot of shit that you'd thought was nothing, trying to put it into perspective.

The ONE saving grace in the whole mess, is that I'll never actually have to see him face to face- in CANADA if you get legally branded "a dangerous offender" which he is,
he will never see the streets again... he's in for consecutive life terms without chance of parole.
THIS is the infamous Lieutenant-Colonel as he was:

I'm sorry the memories of your time in the Royal Canadian Air Force would be marked by this...
Here is something corny to make up for it...I am shocked that this is the best on YouTube....

About a 40 or so imo, but either way gotta love those Willys (their jeeps are great, too).

this is the car before he bought it(first 2) and after((rest of the pics, Ontario George).
It's funny, he is the most quiet, unassuming fella, yet he was dragging this car in the 60's getbigger style
bit of historical trivia...his and my mom's grandfather was friends and worked with Henry Ford when he was prepping his car for the 1908 Ford Motor Company and was offered to buy in as an investor but did not have the $5000 minimum back then which as you would know, was an unreal amount of money in those days, esp with a family to feed

Nice, man. I saw a Lancia not too long ago, too. First one I've ever seen on a street, must be.

I had to pull it off a website where he had posted.
Funny thing is I remember as a kid being at his house(we lived 700km away at the time) and the trophies etc were there and he didn't brag and was actually kind of shy about the whole thing, or I guess you can say Humble.
But I always remember the big black and white pic my mother had(has?) in a photo album, I always loved that photo of the car pic from the front espec the rat on the front hood
