Title: If you could only save either a dog or a person from a burning building...
Post by: devilsmile on September 18, 2015, 07:56:43 AM
... and you could only save either the human being or the dog, which one would you choose?

I would save the dog, parrot, cat, pig, snake, chicken or any other living being but not the person. It's a logical option for me.

You?

You can't tell. In the other side you hear dog barking and howling scared, in the other side you hear a person shouting in fear. You have few seconds to choose, what would your heart say?

You sound like you have no friends.

you sound like a gimmick

you sound like a sociopath.

every person would save the human (unless it was their own dog or they hated the person) its a human instinct to save other humans first over anything, hard to explain, probably goes to caveman days. Same principle as when you get huge sense of guilt for no reason when you kill someone, hard to explain.

First time I shot someone dead I couldn't sleep for 2 years after. Gets easier more people you kill.

you americans want everything scripted and made ready for you so that you won't make "wrong choices", da fuck.

It's a burning building, and you hear dogs and womans/mans voice, dog on the other side, the person on the other side. You have to make a fast decision because the damn roof is about to fall down. Dog or human, mothaucka! There is no telling what kind of person or dog it is, shit!

Sometimes I have to remind myself that the getbig community is not a true cross-section of society, regarding opinions/behaviours etc. There will be more people on this forum with narcissistic tendencies and sociopathic tendencies than in 'normal' society, because BB attracts this personality type.

Obviously there will be both ends of the spectrum on here, and hundreds of average joe's (personality wise) but my point stands.

I save the dog because I don't expect any gratitude from the dog and won't be disappointed when he trots off to fetch a tennis ball. But when I save the human and they don't show me a lifetime of gratitude and indebtedness for saving their life, I'm going to be disappointed.

right, so you will agree that not everyone is equal. But a dog is always a dog.

and kim, I don't pretend nothing, I just wanted to hear peoples opinions.

If the person was a just born baby... well I might try to save both dog and the baby, maybe also if we're talking about toddlers. But a grown man/woman? No way, I would still save the dog.

Joon, You're 36 right? The first Persian-Gulf war lasted from 1980-1988, so you must have been recruited as one of the "shaheed" from an extremely young age. Do you attribute your ability to run sub-five minute miles to your early days of bullet dodging and dashing through minefields, or just simply a case of good genetics?

Joon is one of the Shahid Ninja. He's been a successful suicide bomber 8 times.

His mugshot projected onto the American sky could be more lethal than a nuclear bomb - aka "project brown beam".
Word is that the ISI is busily producing bullet proof armor using his nose hair.

Although there may be deviations from the norm, most species give preferential treatment to members of their same species. If you put a puppy and a baby in a burning building, a dog would save the puppy and an adult human would save the baby. Replace the baby and puppy with a bird and deer, another bird would save the bird and another deer would save the deer. As stated above, there may be deviations to this depending on numerous factors, but for the most part, a species is going to save its own kind.

I am not getting into the detail, I have my reasons, the bold section (see above) is where you are going wrong.
I was there during the first war as a civilian, but that is not the war I served in since I was 8 years old at the time.
You are right because of my army training at early age that is why I later grew up to be extremely good at sports and fighting.

Nobody knows exactly what they would do. It's all fight or flight...It would be your subconscious that takes over. A younger healthier human with empathy would think of the human first. But if fear seeps in at any moment, that could change things and make a person possibly choose the easier route which could be the dog...But that move will be riddled with guilt for the rest of your life(again only if you aren't a sociopath)...

if you chose the dog.... I wonder how you would feel if your gf, wife, kids, parents etc were in a burning building and some asshole just like you chose to save a dog first.

Your soul will feel better saving them and then subconsciously holding that over them. No person who has empathy could handle watching someone burn to death without feeling guilt the rest of your life...Better off being the "hero" and letting them have to deal with the fact that you saved them...

every person would save the human (unless it was their own dog or they hated the person) its a human instinct to save other humans first over anything, hard to explain, probably goes to caveman days. Same principle as when you get huge sense of guilt for no reason when you kill someone, hard to explain.

First time I shot someone dead I couldn't sleep for 2 years after. Gets easier more people you kill.

I shot a man in Reno once, just to watch him bleed.

Which is why some of us qualified our response.

I understand humanity... ive seen the worst of it, I get why you would qualify your response based onthat logic. i chose my career based on that logic. Id still save the human. I think if you were ever in the position you would too without a second thought.

Response was BASED on that logic. For me, highly improbable hypotheticals don't really require a deep soul-searching.

Such as saving someone from a burning fire only to have them later beat/rape/rob one of your loved ones?

Be real. If a building was burning you would not ignore the person and save a parrot.

The dog is trapped because animals can't work doors.  Why would I risk my neck to rescue some guy too stupid to exit a burning building?

You could save the person, but then the person you just saved gives you a 600 dollar fine because you had weed on you and then convince you that it's nothing personal, that justice for the greater good has been done, lol.

I will still save the gold fish

I couldn't save anyone if I was stoned.  I get the paranoia.  And this hypothetical is growing curiouser and curiouser.

lol, you would just stand in the middle of the flames and think "wonder which should I save... omg I didn't even take a hair cut and people wait outside with cameras and I don't whanna go outside anymore, I wonder can I escape from the back, god the screams are annoying, what should I do, only if I had water, no really what should I do I'm just standing here, I didn't even workout today, and it's already 6 pm and I haven't eaten in 4 hours, why can't I make a decision, god these flames bore me to death", yep ;D

Exactly. Top of the head.

Second thought, depends on the building. Anything valuable to loot? Might have to forego rescue altogether, only got two hands.

If it was Shizzo, I would save him and leave his dog to burn. That way they are both safe.

every person would save the human (unless it was their own dog or they hated the person) its a human instinct to save other humans first over anything, hard to explain, probably goes to caveman days. Same principle as when you get huge sense of guilt for no reason when you kill someone, hard to explain.

First time I shot someone dead I couldn't sleep for 2 years after. Gets easier more people you kill.

You have never taken a life. You wouldn't talk this way if you had.

I would watch both burning. Not very fond of dogs and people.

... and you could only save either the human being or the dog, which one would you choose?

I would save the dog, parrot, cat, pig, snake, chicken or any other living being but not the person. It's a logical option for me.

You?

Unless I personally know the person from before or the person is not related to anyone I know, I would rather save a dog.

In fact I'd trade an entire African or Arabian nation's population for one St Bernard.
