Title: Songs You Never Need to Hear Again
Post by: The Ugly on September 27, 2015, 02:51:15 PM
Historically overplayed, I mean:

"We Will Rock You" - Queen (I CAN'T be the only one.)
"Bohemian Rhapsody" - Queen (Ditto.)
"What I Like About You" - Romantics (Not lately, but 80s/90s crammed in a lifetime's worth.)
"The Unforgiven"/ "Nothing Else Matters" - Metallica (And I've got maybe two "Sandman"s left as well.)
"Panama" - Van Halen (LOVE the band, but never the tune, and WAY too much radio time.)
"Thunderstruck" - AC/DC (Huge 'DC fan, but never this, and it's always everywhere you go.)
"Bad to the Bone" - George Thorogood (Don't hear it at all anymore, yet that's still too much.)
"Rock and Roll" - Led Zeppelin (A favorite band, but an overplayed bore.)
"Old Time Rock and Roll" - Bob Seger (Dig Seger, but he's better than this force-fed anthem.)
"Man in the Box" - Alice in Chains (Again, LOVE the band, just ain't feeling this one anymore.)
"Living on a Prayer"/"Wanted Dead or Alive" - Bon Jovi (Too much for too long is all.)
"Home Sweet Home"/"Kickstart My Heart" - Motley Crüe (Don't hear 'em anymore but worth a mention.)
"Rock and Roll All Night" - Kiss (Enough already.)

And anything from Nirvana, Boston, sober/soundtrack Aerosmith, or post-Pyromania Def Leppard.

I was gonna include "Melt With You" and "Don't You (Forget about Me)" by Modern English/Simple Minds, respectively, but heard both recently and I think our time apart has mended things.

Rest assured, there will be more.

Almost included it. And if I heard "November Rain" more, it most definitely would've made the list.

I can tune out from most of those songs. Nicki minaj and her silicon videos. Blah. Beyonce singing put a ring on it yet she has other men lined up (let's apply logic - if you expect marriage you do not have men waiting to replace boyfriend). That is mindless crap.

Single ladies by beyonce used to drive me mad though. Like a magent for fat girls to dance.

Anything cRap or hippity hop "oriented".  Anything "hick-hop".  Anything by anybody that is currently "trending" or any other stupid popular term used to denote talentless individuals or groups of individuals.  Anything coming out of another "person's" vehicle, especially when it is punctuated by an oh-so-musical 25 Hz thud.

I am certain there's more.

Oh...And "It's A Small World".

You, my friend, have wonderful taste. Toto is, like Journey, one of America's greatest contributors to the world of mainstream-yet-masterful-and-artful rock. The band's roster has boasted three Porcaro brothers (two now gone, sadly), David Paich, Simon Phillips, and ... wait for it ... the freakishly awesome ...

Steve Lukather

Don't hate on me guys but I love Styx, check out clips from the show they did in 1996(when De young  and them got back together for that tour), fucking awesome playing and singing

Side note, saw an interview with Deyoung, the first big hit they had Lady,  he wrote for his wife 43 years ago and he is still married to the same woman, very rare

And this may not fit the topic, as it's a song I've only heard a few times, but there's a song called "fireflies" by Owl City (just googled) that is so effeminate and pansy, I can feel the testosterone being sucked out of my ears if it's on.

Just hit me recently. "We Die Young" and "Bleed the Freak" were always my favorites.

But I feel like you about anything Black Crowes, Blind Melon, old Stones, old Aerosmith, (most) Zep, Creedence, and (most) Roth Van Halen, among others. Bon Scott 'DC, too, except "Big Balls." It was a joke song, and the joke grew stale years ago.

I would have gotten it wrong...... :-\   At least I am honest. I immediately thought of either the American Revolution, or to a lesser extent, the civil war.

The war of 1812 really does not come to the forefront, when thinking of American engagements.

Still, as an American, it's something we should all know  :-X

Just to clarify, where is he heard? Honestly not familiar with a single note.

Him, Bieber, Katie P, Miley, Gaga, Iggy, Minaj, Beyonce, etc., wouldn't have a clue if they were playing right now. Radio, Net, TV, where are we hearing them?

???

All day every day, on power 106, Kday, WEST COAST RADIO, any hip hop /rap station on Iheart Radio, at almost all night clubs

is that the answer you are looking for?

Any answer would do, I just didn't get one.

Power 106 here in LA? That'd make sense.

Most know that much, but they inevitably say Revolutionary War. You'd think it should be, no? Our National Anthem, right ... wasted on some marginal skirmish?

Well, it wasn't really a song after all. It was just a Poem... Then they happened to put it to the tune of a drinking song and a National Anthem was born.

Sounds pretty American to me.

Forty years, though, for a song about kicking Limey ass. Should've retroed the lyrics is all. It's like celebrating Aaron's 755th instead of 715. (Because fuck Bonds.)

Probably just me, nevermind.

Def Leppard-anything.

They've sold over 100million albums and are still touring and recording after 37 years in the business. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it arsehole.

Well, it didn't stop Def Leppard and Joe Elliott from being chosen to record songs for the recent Paul McCartney tribute album (The Art of McCartney: The songs of Paul McCartney sung by the world's greatest artists). Also, Joe Elliott has his side project Down 'n' Outz and has toured with the Rock 'N' Roll All Stars. Phil Collen has his side projects Manraze and Delta Deep and Vivian Campbell has his band Last In Line.

So fixed.

Sounds like an interesting project, but I can't stand the vocals of Def Leppard and I'm more than allergic to Phil Collins.

As one of the world's best-selling music artists, Def Leppard have sold more than 100 million records worldwide, and have two albums with RIAA Diamond certification, Pyromania and Hysteria. They are one of only five rock bands with two original studio albums selling over 10 million copies in the US. The band were ranked No. 31 in VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock" and ranked No. 70 in "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".

Yes, lots of $$, fanboy. Yet here they are pouring sugar all over this 'sick of' thread, where their entire catalogue has been suggested more than once.

And what does it tell you, the fact that their music is being played so much on the radio that it's annoying the hell out of those arseholes? The stations are playing it for the majority, not the minority who post stupid messages on Getbig.

That might be the case in the US, but here in Europe you might hear them once a month at most on specialized rock stations.

While there are great alternatives to mainstream stations on the internet. The thing is that most people want to hear the same shit over and over again, so we can't blame those stations.

LOL, that's very ironic because today at 10:20am, Radio Caroline (one of the world's most famous music stations) played the song "Nine Lives" by Def Leppard featuring Tim McGraw. In fact, they play their music a lot on there and they play stuff purely at random, unlike a lot of music stations that play the same songs every day.

We don't have that station on the cable or in the ether, or it must be a AM frequency in mono. The thing is that unlike the US, Europe hasn't got a strong rock culture, Germany and some Scandinavian countries excluded.

It used to be that music radio stations used to have a  “Music Director” who you trusted to pick which records were played...A person
…Now it is algorithms programmed into software that does the picking…A soulless adding machine…now pick a station’s music.

"Without the benefit of another month of high-rotation absorption of this album, I still think I can safely say that the band have delivered a home run here and will have fans united in their praise. A very "Def Leppard" style album which is all the fans want in this day and age. Fresh and innovative without sounding like someone else and classic and retroactive (pardon the pun) without being stale or repetitive. There’s life in the old dog yet and I give credit to the band for pushing aside modern industry concerns to still deliver a ripping full length album of this quality."

I wish stations would play more then one or two songs off of an album for a particular artist. Most of the songs that are chosen to go on there are not even close to the best ones off of the album, etc.

I hate Sam smith, all "rappers" nowadays, and majority of what's played. I really hate country guys who try and rap in their songs. Just awful.

So true... they play Extreme's 'more than words', but not 'get the funk out'. The same with the Chilli peppers with their dull 'under the bridge', while 'give it away' is so much better.
