A couple of those things in a McMansion is tacky. All of those things in a multi million dollar residence is opulence.

Exactly.

I don't know what makes some people here think they even know what taste is. It doesn't matter what Trump's penthouse looks like it will always be criticize by those at GetBig who will never ever be at that level

What is in that room, not even counting the room itself, is worth more than anyone here will ever be worth in several of their life times.

LOL at "McMansion". Yeah, there are tons of places just like that.

Jealousy and class envy at it's best.

Doubtful he spends time with his lady, lounges watching tv, eats there, etc etc... true workaholic. People like him live for work and rarely are even at home.

Seriously, how would you know? Everyone of those pieces on display is something you had no idea even existed.

Just like you wouldn't understand why someone would spend a million dollars on a painting, be moved to tears at a an opera, would relish a fantastic meal when you would be salivating over a Papa John's Pizza.

You're just not at that level, and never will be, to appreciate the finer things in life. It's similar to how most people just don't appreciate a world class bodybuilder and what made Arnold or Haney so great. It's just like when I first saw Pumping Iron. They pretty much looked all the same to me. Really couldn't understand how they could choose between one of the other. Lou, Sergio, Franco, Arnold; just all huge muscle bound men. But with education and experience the differences began to shine through and in one small, tiny way I was able to better appreciate an aspect of life that I didn't before.

The fault lies with you not Trump. You just have no idea and live in an entirely different and lesser world. I could give you ten billion dollars right now and have you design, furnish, and decorate your own house with your, presumably, superior taste and you wouldn't know where to start. Name one painting and one piece of furniture
you would have that you consider far more tasteful than what Trump has.

There is nothing that could be displayed on GetBig that wouldn't get criticized by those who will never, ever be anywhere near the level of success and accomplishment that they criticize. Even Jay's lifestyle shits on you and 99% of GetBig. His garage and what's in it is worth more than your house -- assuming you even own one.

Post a pic of your house and your car and show us how successful and accomplished you are and how you are qualified to criticize Trump. (I won't be holding my breath).

Trump is not a hard working person. He's idle for 10 to 12 hours daily if you check his itinerary summaries. Bush was worse. He was idle for weeks at a time.

Obama is the hardest working us president since Eisenhower

Absolutely wrong. Trump built his entire career predicated in large part base on his knowledge of value. A major part of business is being able to sell, i.e., to convince others on the value of a good or service. A major factor of investing is knowing the value of a good or service before others.

Taste is subjective. That's what enables anyone to dislike someone elses design choices. You are focusing on the money. People are not criticising his wealth.

Of course he cares. What he doesn't care about is what a bunch of wannabes/never was on a bbing forum has to say about his possessions.

I am not focusing on money. I am focusing what makes you qualified to determine his "taste". You didn't say that his decor didn't appeal to you or wasn't your thing but that he had poor taste. This implies to you have better taste. Of course taste is subjective. I don't get opera. I don't get a Picasso. But I am not going to criticize the taste of others that do. Answer my question. If money was no object what kind of painting would display? What kind of sculpture? What kind of sofa  and chair would be in the room? And why?

Wrong and an idiotic statement. I've been on this board for over ten years and have always made it clear I am a person of modest means.

I protest the constant negativity that this board generates toward success. I've even defended Bostin Lloyd, who I am not a fan of. I have defended DLB whom I actually dislike (at least the image she portrays). But I defend, admire, and encourage their success. Bostin is 23 years old and he's already a successful business owner working for himself and a home owner when most his age are still living with their parents. DLB has built a successful and lucrative career doing what she loves. And people were bashing her house in the country surrounded by nature and animals when most here are living in apartments or their neighbors are just a few yards away.

It use to be that Americans admired success and tried to emulate it. Now the trend is toward jealousy and resentment.

No I didn't. I want to know what makes you think you have better (not different) taste than Trump. Sure there's nothing wrong if you want to live in a tiny house or drive a 2008 Toyota Corolla even if you were multi millionaire. But don't come off as somehow aesthetically superior to someone who lives in a mansion and drives a Rolls.

And don't be a naive fool. Money does change very, very much a person's taste. If you suddenly became a billionaire you will find that your trips to Taco Bell and Target will become less frequent. You might even buy a new car a bit more frequently. Traveling to different countries and going on cruises suddenly makes it on the "things to do" list. Most people with money buy extravagant tat just like Trump, they know the cost of everything but the value of nothing.

Dubai is a beautiful place. Too bad you will never have the funds to travel there.

Again, please enlighten us and tell us how you would furnish your abode if you were a billionaire. Show us how your living room compares to this "sad" place.

Yes, of course you will find a Renoir in a brothel.

And for crying out loud, trying to make a pretense of sophistication and you spell "rich" wrong and seem to have never heard of a comma.

No clue. Just no clue.

The difference is that Trump built upon his family's success and raised his children to do the same. Unlike many that come from privilege that just live off what others before them accomplished. Paris Hilton come to mind.

Someone on this board once mentioned, rightly, that if a successful millionaire suddenly lost all due to some unforeseen catastrophe, he be back on his feet and rich and successful again in time. Give a ghetto rat a million dollars he'd be back to being dirt poor in the same time frame. Remember Rodney King getting a load of dough from the LAPD but due to his alcohol and drug addiction lost it all in no time.

Yes, he comes from privilege and went to the best schools and probably had tutors to help him with his courses. We should all be so lucky. I mean, lets face it, if you are born a Kennedy, a Rockefeller, part of the Royal Family... you aren't going to be punching a time clock and worrying about having enough for retirement so you don't have to live in a trailer park.

Who knows where you and I would be if we were born into similar circumstances. I imagine a tad better off. Who knows where Trump would be if he were born in our circumstances. Maybe he would still be successful, but I doubt he would be the front runner for the President of the United States.

So much of our life is determined on the day you were born.

And why?

Here are just a few of the reasons why that place is tacky. The faux corinthian columns cut in half and  glued  onto the load bearing columns. The Renoir and the Reni  and the ceiling fresco are reproductions.  He has a ceiling fresco on a ceiling that is no more than 13 feet high. The furniture and painting in the office are too big for where they are placed, so  the couch is crammed in front of that ornate frame.

Yes, the place is more expensive than our apartment, but it is garish. The prints let you know exactly what's going on. Why get reproductions in a $100 mil penthouse?  This is a guy trying to cram an idea of "luxury" into a space where it doesn't fit. He's trying to make a high-rise penthouse- which could be very stylish- into some hideous Versailles reproduction and it looks like garbage. The scale is off, the symmetry is off, the architecture is anachronistic. That's why it's tacky.

Fair answer, now I see where you're coming from. My problem with Donald is his whole identity is based in revelling in his wealth, yeah great he inherited 250 million and turned it into 5 Bill but he's had every advantage in life so he's not comparable with the average joe posting on Getbig.

I don't attempt to determine his taste. It is self evident. I dislike his taste. Whether I vocalise that dislike through saying: "fuck me, that place looks like shit!", or your preferred variant: "his decor isn't my thing" is really just a case of semantics.

In relation to my interior design preferences, you can deduce that it would look a fair bit different from Donald's.

I'd say these are not the sort of people who Americans, or anyone else, should look up to. Again, it appears that you are focusing on the material aspects of people's existence and equating this to success.

Figuratively... even though I did use a literal example with the office. I live in a high rise- a much more modest 2-bedroom rental worth far less than $100 mill, but while me and my wife were deciding what furniture to buy, we noticed that the way NY highrises are built means they only look good sticking to  a few styles.   In my apartment building there are apartments worth $10-20mil  that I would choose to live in before Trump's penthouse. Trump's apartment might look better in person, but in pictures it's one of the trashiest looking trophy apartments I've ever seen.

Everybody in competitive bodybuilding abuses hormones. No hormones no bodybuilding. If that bother you why are you here?

You don't  know or have any evidence that Bostin is a drug dealer. Why would he being so high profile and having such a successful business?

And though all competitive bbers are drug abusers a precious few have built a successful business. That's what I defended against people who criticize their house, their car, their products, their success. It has nothing to do with looking up to them as people. I don't know them in real life. I have made it abundantly clear that I am not a fan of Bostin or DLB as internet personas but I'm not going to let that delude me into not recognizing that they have become very successful in a cult where the use of hormones, and lying about them, is rampant.

And yes, material wealth is an important aspect to success. Stop lying to yourself. If you are poor, can't keep a roof over you head, go hungry all the time, no consistent income... you are not doing well in life. Name me one person who is dirt poor that you consider a success and would like to emulate? Even Ghandi,  a University College London-educated lawyer who donned a loincloth to identify with the poorest of the earth but cultivated wealthy contributors, wasn't all that he appeared.

As Sarojini Naidu, president of the Indian National Congress, once memorably observed, "It costs a lot of money to keep Ghandi in poverty."

I fail to see where I said that Bostin and DLB taking drugs bothered me. The implication is that you shouldn't be part of this forum if you have are bothered by people abusing hormones. I don't see that listed anywhere in the forum rules / guidelines. Also, there are those who are interested in working out without taking drugs.

You clearly value financial wealth highly when evaluating whether you consider someone successful. Nothing wrong with that. Not everyone places such an emphasis on this metric. I don't believe that you should allow this metric to overshadow the the rest of a person's existence. I am espousing a more holistic approach.

When you say that DLB and Bostin is a drug abuser you meant it as a pejorative. You try to minimize the importance of wealth because it makes you feel more "spiritual" and "above it all". That you are somehow beyond mere possessions. Fact is you're jealous that you can never be so successful so you shift your value system to accommodate your reality.

You've never been so poor that you didn't have enough to eat or a roof over your head. And spare me the make of story of how much you've suffered in life. I'm not buying it.

Fair answer, now I see where you're coming from. My problem with Donald is his whole identity is based in revelling in his wealth, yeah great he inherited 250 million and turned it into 5 Bill but he's had every advantage in life so he's not comparable with the average joe posting on Getbig.

Of course his identity is based on wealth. That's what he does. That's what his focus is in life. No billions and no Trump as he is today. But that applies to everybody. Jay, Ronnie, Phil... their whole self image is based on their muscles. My Priest whole self image is based on being a Priest and living the life of a Priest. My brother has gotten rich being a web designer and it consumes virtually all his waking hours. He loves it. And people associate him as the slick web designer that works for movie studios. I have a friend that's a Hare Krishna and that's what his whole identify is based on.

What a person does in life, what he chooses to define himself, I have no problem with as long as it doesn't harm or infringe on the rights of others, for example, someone in a drug cartel. Trump has provided goods and services that people want and are willing to pay for. He has provided jobs so that others can support their families. He has made tons of people very rich. He has enriched himself and he has enriched others. His thing is business and wealth is the main measure of success in business. We all choose to do something that defines us.

Pick your poison.

I do not believe that being a drug abuser is good thing. It does not logically follow that it bothers me that they engage in such activity.

It is correct that I am advocating a balanced view of success. You are the one who is placing a higher value on wealth than other measures, to the point where you are holding up drug abusers and charlatans as people Americans should revere, simply because they have material wealth.

I can assure you, I am not jealous other people's wealth. To infer such, based on the fact that I dislike DT's taste in interior design, DLB's misrepresentation of her achievements, or Bostin's drug dealing, is more a product of your desire for this to be true. Not a lot I can do about that.

I wouldn't try and give you a tale of suffering, I do not have one.

Spot on.

Of course having material possessions and wealth is nice. However, I would never lead the life of Bostin Loyd to achieve such success. If I could be wealthy  without being a drug abuser and charlatan, then that is fine. But I could never ever envision myself stooping to the likes of Bostin Loyd to make the money he makes (or DLB). There are many people who would rather have less money than Bostin because they do not want to lead his lifestyle. Its a specific lifestyle, and not one I am willing to engage in just to make money.

Its really all about a continuum. Who wouldn't want to be as rich as Bill Gates? Most everyone would. Shit, Id love to be extremely wealthy. Thus, I am not necessarily saying that my value system is inherently void of material wealth or possession (because its not). What I am saying is that my value system includes also leading a decent and honest life, thus not being able to do what Bostin Loyd does just to make money. Bostin has no shame. Its all material possessions.

Its dumb to create a strict dichotomy between material possession/wealth and honesty/integrity. Some people have no honesty/integrity and will care all about the wealth/material possessions, even at the expense of others. I like to think I am more in the "middle," so to speak.

Your bias and veracity is clearly evident in your post. Despite my making no bones about my wealth, always making clear in the over ten years on this board, and on this thread, that I am far from rich, often struggle to meet the bills and have never been involved in investing or any money making endeavors. I wish I had but pursuing wealth was never my thing. Yet you term me as "the one who is placing a higher value on wealth than other measures".

And though I made crystal clear that I am not a fan of either Lloyd or DLD I am now "holding up drug abusers and charlatans as people Americans should revere".

How is it that DLB misrepresents her achievements? What evidence do you have that Bostin is a drug dealer? There is someone on this board that is friends with his father and knows a bit more about Bostin irl than you do. And the fact is he has built a very successful business doing what he loves. As does DLB.

I defend successful people that are bashed by those, such as you, who will never reach their level of success. So you dismiss it. It's not easy getting rich and richer. Look how you've failed. There is nothing that Trump can decorate his penthouse with that people like you would criticize and attempt to diminish.

Like I said, we use to applaud success and achievement, now due to being brainwashed by class envy people like you resent other's achievements and are jealous of it and because they will never have it they simply denigrate it and try to diminish it's value and importance. You can deny it all you want but it is the truth. You're a nobody, wish you were a somebody, and because you will never be you simply try to convince yourself and others that it doesn't matter.

QFT. Financial stability is important to most, but "material wealth" is not the end-all/be-all/ deciding factor for everyone. Ralph Fiennes will likely never have the box-office clout and earning power that Adam Sandler has had, but how likely is it that Fiennes would want to trade careers?

The penthouse is strangely decorated, regardless of what it costs. Just because something is out of someone's price range does not mean that it is too high-class to be judged. There are many multi-million dollar homes that look good. I posted the pics because it was surprising that such an expensive home could look so shitty. I posted a thread about Michael Jordan's house awhile ago, and even though I admire the man and defended him in several posts in that thread, I didn't think it was a good-looking house. Had nothing to do with jealousy or trying to dismiss his accomplishments.

There was a show, I think it was called "Cribs" that feature homes of the rich and famous. Showing homes of the rich and famous is so common now. In magazines, internet... it's all over the place.

Let me ask you, have you ever seen a mansion owned and furnished by someone filthy rich that met your approval? If so, please name that person.

Since you considered Jordan's house as "not good looking" could you post a pic of your house so we can have an idea of your taste and what you consider good looking?

I could take photos of my parents' house and you would see 10 times the class you see there. Tasteful furniture, spacious, co-ordinated layout. Woods, marble, nice paint colours. Not gold and fucking more gold leaf everywhere like King Midas came to visit. Getting my Kitchen, laundry room and bathroom done at the moment and even though it is where I will cook, clean and shit it will still look better than Trump's middle eastern palace looking penthouse.

rejoin the conversation when you've grown up.

I can't help but think these personal attacks are representative of some deeper issue within you. It appears the irony of your argument is lost on you. You accuse me of bashing others for having wealth, and for being jealous of their success, without knowing them. When, at the same time you are bashing me for being a "failure" and a "nobody" without knowing the slightest bit about my situation.

If i were financially successful, to a level that you deem fit, would my worldview suddenly become valid? Would my opinion hold more weight with you? Would you "defend" me because of my success?

Given your allusion to a period of tribulation in your life, I would have hoped for a more encompassing worldview. However, it appears that your historical lack of financial stability has, understandably, led you to value this above other measures of success. Fortunately for me, I have no such hang ups, as my past is resplendent with all the trimmings of a privileged upbringing.

The difference in our positions is that: I can understand why you hold yours, and I do not slide into personal attacks on you because of it.

Rather than spin our wheels, around the same positions, I will respectfully bow out at this juncture.

God, your a moron. You really are. You really, really don't see the difference? What if a fat person starts giving you tips on losing weight?

It's one thing to say that you don't care for Trumps decor. Not my thing either. Just like I don't get poetry, I don't get a $500 bottle of wine or why a painting fetches millions. Maybe there's something, a sophistication lacking in me that I would prefer a chocolate shake from McDonald's than Champage. But I never question and judge the person's taste unless I feel I have better taste. I'm not on the same level (whether it's higher or lower is subjective) as a Trump or a Hilton.

You think he has bad taste? Then presumably you know what good taste is. That you can pass judgement on what other people have. Show me what your living looks like which I assume you decorate according to your superior taste.
