Who should have won the 2001 Olympia? Even though Ronnie was massive and Jay's conditioning was the best onstage, neither should have won.
Jay tested positive for diuhretics, clearly violating the rules of that show (also explains why his conditioning was better).
So then Ronnie's the winner, right? Nope. During Big Ron's posing routine, which he dedicated to the fallen police officers and firefighters of 9/11, he removed his posing trunks revealing another pair coloured with the stars and stripes of the American flag. However, according the official IFBB regulations handbook, only solid coloured posing trunks may be worn on stage. Thus, an American flag trunk would disqualify whoever wore it.
And so, with Big Ron and and Iron Jay both technically disqualified, the true winner of the 2001 Mr. Olympia is and was K-Lo himself, Kevin Levrone!

Actually it was 1990, I never got the Prize Money to have to return it.
I bounced back quite nicely and never lost a wink of sleep before placing top 3 in the Mr. O that same year and returning to the ASC the following year for the Money and Trophy.

I think so cause most the people who were up there but didn't win have been called lazy and not at their full potential but i don't believe that anyone has called S. Ray lazy, well not since he retired and had a daughter and all but it's a well deserved rest if you wanna call it that :)

i was watching the BFTO 1998 recently and Shawn Ray was talking about how refreshing it was that it wouldnt be the same Mr. Olympia to be crowned as it had been for the past 12 years of his career. He just seemed so optimistic that the trend would finally be broken. Eight years later that's still not the case...
Jay seemed really crushed this year when he lost after dedicating an entire year to just that one contest. It's hard to imagine how Shawn Ray could have endured that same feeling for 12 or 13 years. That's some serious hard work and dedication. Shawn, you may not be an official Mr. Olympia, but you earned the right for your name to be spoken of on the same level as any existing Mr. O a long time ago. Your posters will never leave my walls.

I don't think that rules say that wearing non solid colour trunks implies disqualification.
Probably not respecting that rule implies only a monetary penalty.

Yeah, I really feel sorry for Cutler, as I did for Shawn and Levrone and Flex and Nasser all those years.
The thing is, bc bodybuilding is judged, if you worked all year telling yourself this is it, this is the best I can be, i have to win this time. And then you lose, again, how the fucc do you get back in the gym and start all over.
Seriously, pro bodybuilders (the elite ones, not talking about clowns like kamali) have something seriously different from the rest of everybody else, 99.9% of people would just quit.

In 2002 However, Kevin deserved to win. That year Ronnie showed up small, flat and depleted. In 2000 he was still huge and had detail, although he came in a bit heavy. All the back and lat shots were too much for Kevin to overcome that year.

Levrone is a total embarrassment for this sport. He shows up drunk to the 2005 NPC Nationals and makes a total fool out of himself at the expo. what is his problem? I can only imagine that he's Trying to drink away his sorrow. He should go back to church and sober up. Not trying to sound judgemental but everyone at the nationals noticed it. Just like the M3 video he did high on drugs. I mean enough is enough.

If you are genetically predisposed, gear just speeds up the process. It would have happened eventually anyway, but with gear it happens earlier.

Like how growth hormone use caused dennis newman to develop leukemia - he was genetically predisposed to it and the extra GH sped the process up like it does to some kids who are prescribed a cycle because they wont grow taller. that's what he told flex magazine - we're all glad you pulled thru, Dennis - can't wait for No pain no gain to come out on dvd

Let the man relax with his bottle of Nightrain (lucky number 14) and if he wants to make an awesome DVD while blown to holy hell on weed and zapped out on an 8-ball of primo columbian gold cocaine, good for him, god knows if you are gonna ride those sweet rails you should at least have the best stuff. still believe it's better with ron holding it for 9 yrs which it should end given his BSN contract is over. dont think the title would be worth as much if there had been 6-7 MrO over Ron's reign. You'd basically have Kevin beating Flex yr and forgetting to train his back... so Shawn beats him the next yr. Shawn comes in a bit soft and Flex gets him on symmetry. Then... Flex adds oil and Chris bits the bullet and upsets him. Shawn comes back the following in shape and beats Chris b/c he spent too much time getting high and celebrating his previous yr's victory. Jay is next in line. He'll make a good O for the next 3-5 yrs before Phil or some unk monster will hold it for a couple of yrs.
Ronnie is the most dominate of this era at O. Even when he is off... he can overpower the current crop of pros.

What happens when 300 pounds shredded is no longer freakish? Lee Haney was about 250 and
considered a freak, today this is the average weight i would guess. The direction of body-
building needs to take a different turn, IMO. Where is bodybuilding 10 years from now?
