Human gonna human. It doesn't change because you give someone a shiny badge and a pension.

Police are susceptible to vices like everyone else. They just believe that they should be above it.

Being an asshole, or "trigger happy" is not the byproduct of taking steroids.

Those are inherent traits.

Substances may exacerbate "asshole" qualities, i.e.., a guy is an asshole, and becomes a bigger asshole when he's drunk.

Maybe, but who's the last muscled-up cop, that has been caught in a national controversy?

I'd say it's more of a geek turned cop problem then anything. Guys who were picked on in school, suddenly get a badge and a gun, and think they are the next Wyatt Earp.

But when you mix all of that together, plus use of substances, then it may become a bigger issue. You really can't isolate ONE  variable (former geek) as the deciding factor in any human behavior.

Maybe cops are never caught in a national controversy because they never get caught, for obvious reasons  ;) ;)

Umm.....cops are always in the news. It's just that all of the accused cops look like normal people.

I would say that having juiced-up cops would be more of a benefit than a liability. Remember what they have to deal with.

I would like some PED's too, if I was trying to corral an addict on PCP, who is fighting back, or the added strength to subdue a bigger perp.

That also brings me to another point: Why don't all cops have a partner? Seems asinine to have single cops patrolling. It should be standard to have a brother in blue always by your side.

I am talking in relation to drug testing and their job. You never hear about it because, even if a cop is found doing drugs on the job, its probably swept under the rug.

I am not necessarily against cops being on PEDs. I am against cops using drugs like coke, heroine, meth, etc.

I obviously agree with you on this point.

What about Adderall? (INB4 240) You would think that heightened focus and reaction time would greatly benefit law enforcement.

Adderall also benefits college kids, and with that mindset, would also benefit emergency room trauma surgeons; heightened focus and reaction time from a doctor could mean the difference between life and death of a patient. But does that mean you want everyone hopped up on Adderall to do a better job?  :-\ :-\

The are called Performance Enhancing Substances for a reason. Maybe we shouldn't shun them upon first mention, and instead look for the possible benefits.

Even water has potential side effects (including death)

Life is a fucking side effect.

I don't think I want a doctor who is on Adderral performing brain surgery on me. Ill pass.

This.

The people who are in charge of upholding the law should be held to higher standards, although we know this isn't the case. Police, government officials and anyone else who holds a postion of governmental power should be drug tested.

This won't happen, as to many are addicted to pain pills and various other legal pharmaceutical crap, but they should be held accountable.

 ::)

Shizzo the term "performing enhancing drugs" was created by the media because baseball players were shattering home run records. It then became an all encompassing term for any substance that was considered an "aid" in athletic events. Notice pain killers aren't considered "ped's" yet otc supplements often are.

Alcohol ruins lives, tobacco as well but canibus is an issue in this nation.

Drug companies are looking for the benefits, despite any side effects.

You must be misunderstanding me. Cops should be drug tested for weed and hard drugs, I just think steroids are the least of their problems.

I DO NOT think any of the cops are on blow, meth, heroin, etc... it's probably all D-bols/Test, etc...
