Spent NYE at a fund raiser for the Humane Society and one of the raffle prizes was a new computer. HP Envy 34 All In One. Very beautiful curved screen and some nice specs (12gb DD4, 1T hard drive).
Unfortunately the rest of the design is for shit. There is no CD ROM / DVD drive at all. You have purchase an external one to use. All the USB (3.0 and 2.0) are located directly in the back which is going to be hard to use since I have always wall mounted all my AIO pcs so far.
Have not plugged it in to try it yet, but not a fan of it so far.
BB related - 34" is approximately .80 Heath's wide.

Most computers these days do not come with a CD ROM/DVD drive.
Welcome to the age of downloading movies online, i.e., CDs and dvds are becoming obsolete.
-
Since you won it, you can buy that external dvd reader
I agree, I download as much as anyone but if I had a choice I'd want a cd/dvd rom forbackward compabilitys sake

News flash...most all computers today don't have a CD ROM/DVD drive. Inaccessible USB ports is a design flaw for sure.

Why do you need a CDROM to browse getbig?

Morons that is why.
I keep my getbig jpg's on floppy disks and have a separate copy in my grandma's safety deposit box.

Actually I need it to burn photo CDs a few times a year after my travel gigs I contract out for.
Other than that... nothing. But the USB locations is a deal breaker for me. Most people wouldn't have the problem I have with them since they won't be wall mounting it.

Just buy a USB hub and a small USB extension cable.
Problem solved.
I never use the USB ports on anything, I always extend them out so I can have them close to the keyboard.
Or buy a Keyboard that has USB ports on it as well.
Either will work.

Your PC must be an antique.

If the USB locations is a deal-breaker, are you planning on giving the PC you won back?

Damn. Was unaware of this. For real? I assume they transmit by blue tooth (wireless). Are they fast?

actually had considered donating it back as a write off.

I've seen cabled ones with ports, not sure about bluetooth.
New Bluetooth 4.1 or whatever is hella fast though.
Could totally work.

I haven't burned a CD at least for 5 years. Where do you live, Buttfuck, Nebraska? Do you take 1 megapixel photos?
-
As long as it has a floppy drive I'm cool.

A white towel can help with that.

Suck it bitch!
Anyway, looked at the reviews online, they are not very good either. Too many complaints about noise and it running loud. Beautiful design and picture quality though.

Curved screen, lol
**edit: HP pc, lol
I thought curved was bullshit too, but it turns out to not be so.
I own both a 30inch monitor a 40 inch 4K and I assure you, the need for curved is very real at the close proximity of computer monitor over 30 inches.
It isn't amazing looking at a 30 and it sure as hell would be way better if my 40 was curved.

Is it a touch screen monitor?

Is it a touch screen monitor?
No, but if you're suggesting that you simply move the monitor further away - it is an option, but the point of me having 4k is for space. If I jack up the fonts and move it further back I have lost most of the benefit of having a larger monitor.

Makes sense. I think I'll stick with a smaller touch screen monitor. If I want to see something on a larger scale, I'll get a high resolution monitor, hang it on the wall and run a HDMI cable from the laptop to it....you know, for watching porn videos! LOL.

I agree. Bu then again, if you're using such a large monitor for screen real estate, you'd probably be better off with more smaller monitors. They can be deployed in such a way as to form a "curve". They would cost much less too.
I currently have two 24inch monitors and a 17 inch deployed vertically. I can easily see myself getting more.

Definitely. I like a big primary but not having a side monitor sucks.
I bought the 40 to see what it was like but quickly realised I preferred my previous setup.
I went back to it (30 and a 24 by the side) and the power supply to the 30 promptly died.
Back to the 40.. for the moment.

Best display I have ever experienced was oculus dk2 running a virtual desktop. The resolution wasn't particularly great but it was truly stunning to have this crazy curved display of your regular windows environment in front of you that is absolute massive (the size of it mitigated the resolution issues). It really gave a tremendous sense of scale and unlike many oculus activities, didn't make you want to vomit.
As a kicker, you'd turn around in your chair and you'd be basically suspended in space with a giant nebula to look at.
Apparently preorders start today, sometime - I'm in.
