for my boxing. a lot of boxers are told to not train with weights because of the age-old myth that you will become "muscle bound" and inflexible. but thats just bullshit. if you do it the right way, a boxer can train with weights. evander holyfield and frank bruno are 2 excellent examples.

I've been kickboxing now for about 2 years and the added weight actually helps with power (if you know how to kick and punch) not to mention you can take more punishment.

I was a skinny little teenage shithead who wanted to be bigger & stronger.

Now I'm an older, bigger stronger shithead.  Some things never change! :)

I was ALWAYS into the muscular look. I dunno why. I liked the Hulk and I was, and still am, a massive Shwarzenegger fan. I loved Conan.

In my teen years, I focused on sport. In my younger years I had trouble with my body, either being too skinny when I was very young, to too fat when I was around 12 to 15. At 16 I shot up to 6'1" and was playing a lot of basketball. At 18 I was playing open mens bball, but I was only 85kgs and was getting pushed around on the court a lot. I started lifting to put on size, and at the same time, a friend introduced me to Pumping Iron, and I was hooked on bodybuilding. At 22 I started lifting more regularly and seriously.

I'm not gonna lie, another reason I lifted was to get bigger to intimidate people. I grew up in a rough area where we ran to school so we didn't get bashed. I started working in pubs and clubs where there are many pissed idiots who wanna fight, and being bigger has helped me hold my own so far.

Now, I'm just happy to lift cause I like it. I like the look and the feeling of being strong.

So, I got into bodybuilding for:

1. sport
2. looks
3. to scare people

I have never, and will never, lift to impress a female. I do this for me, so when I look in the mirror, I like what I see. 99.9% of girls do not think what I wanna look like is 'sexy'.

I got into bodybuilding because of Arnold, Jean Claude Van Damme, Sylvester Stallone and etc. company. I grew up in the 80's watching a lot of action movies and always wanted to look like Arnold in Commando or Predator!, I've never done it for the girls or attention from girls, I think that's pretty pathetic, if you need to bodybuild to get pu$$y then there's something wrong with you.

Being a nerd, not many girls looked my way, but after 1 year's worth of good training, I had the confidence to ask out girls who wouldn't go out with me in highschool. At my 20th highschool reunion, all the jocks were overweight and looking old and all the "princesses" were heavy too. I got a tremendous amount of compliments on my physique and am gald I stayed with it all these years. For you youngsters out there, it's easy to be working out and eating anything, including junk food, while you're young, but the real test comes when:

1. You have to go out into the real world and get a job, your own place and pay all the bills.
2. Still have the motivation to train, eat well and get ENOUGH sleep.
3. You turn 27 years old (metabolism slows and test goes down)
4. Get married, have children, keep the wife happy, and still have time to train and eat right.

Most of you will think that "it won't happen to you", but chances are you won't be able to stick with it.
Don't take my word for it, just check out all the "athletes" in your graduating class and see how they turned out.

To get stronger, at the time I was pretty satisfied with the way I looked from doing endless pushups and pullups so it wasnt for the looks. I started lifting weights so I could get stronger for wrestling(bench and curl workouts) but somehow I found my way to getbig where I read about max-ot (also used to read artciles on bb.com) and started my first organised weight-training routine including all muscle-groups. Though I think max-ot helped me learn about the weight-training basics, the program is way too dogmatic(duh, supplement company) about the 4-6 reps crap . But thats not the only thing flawed about the program.

I wanted to look good and be strong. I wanted big broad shoulders and thick arms like the real old school lifters -reeves et al.

TBH I laugh at modern bodybuilders with their spandex and bullshit talk, major league drug habits and lack of brains and physiques that just look stupid - 'I know,I'll pack on more muscle than my frame can take and grow my jaw.'

Sorry if that offends anyone (actually,I'm not)

I've always been in "AWE" of the Pros because of the mass and muscle they carry, but never did I have it in my mind to use gear to build my own physique. Gotta admit though it's getting harder each year to stay in shape.

I got into bodybuilding so I could find a forum with a bunch of skinny and fat flamers that mock every serious thread because of their own insecurities.

Looks like I succeeded :)

Bodybuilding was just wanting to stay fit, look good, feel good and to ensure I wouldn't have to buy size 38 jeans as I got into my 30's.

The first time I went to the gym was in january of 2000. I went with my friend and he was showing me how to train.. my first day I was already stronger than him on every single exercise. I liked training a lot and soon enough was training 3 hours a day. After a year of training I was already doing 55 pounds on the dumbell preacher curl. Everybody was also making comments like you look like drago from rocky 4 or your gaining fast, do you want to be a bodybuilder? So I knew from that momment on I was a gift. :)

My reasons for starting:

1) To rehab an injury incurred at birth

2) To build up strength to protect myself against the marauding gangs in my old neighborhood

3) To attract women

4) To avoid feeling inadequate

Did it work? Here are the answers,

1) Yes to a large degree

2) Having extra size made people think twice, but the best way seemed to be to hanging out with the right people

3) Not really, in fact at my biggest it seemed to have an opposite effect. Being comfortable with myself worked better in this department.

4) Didn't help really, to change that I had to build all areas of my life,; still building.

Actually our natural instinct is to pass on our genes. With that in mind our brain processes the selection of mates and/or spouses that have the physical strength to carry on with our genes and pass them onto to offspring so that the cycle continues. Since we view overweight, obese and out of shape people as sickly, it's natural for us to strive towards with strong physical apperances.

Directed at me, you were saying it taking in consideration that you couldn't do it before? I gladly invite yo to come to the George Mason Freedom Center in Manassas VA to come to my kickboxing class that I teach and I'll get you a pair of gloves and you can have at it. I promise not to even kick, I'll just box. Or better yet we can do jui jitsu so there won't be any striking. After I'll even take you out to lunch to show I'm a good sportsman. Email me when you want to come down.

No,I could do it before but I started lifting to do it better! ;)

BTW taking kickboxing classes or jui jitsu classes don't mean a thing in real fights. Spending years taking martial arts and saying you then know how to fight doesn't make sense. It's like spending years having a personal trainer and then saying you're a muscleman! I won't get into how much B.S. martial arts are right now but i'll say this...You're wasting your time.

Secondly NO,I'm not going to fly to another state just to kick someone's ass from a message board. Nice try though!

You're welcome to come to California though. ;) I'll be here for a few more months.

I have relatives all over Cali so accomodations won't be a problem! So are you a game?8)

Don't put words into my mouth. I never said "fighting is bullshit" or "Mma training is bullshit".
Also I won't be in California in July i'm leaving for Germany in June....

BTW VictorVonDoom,Where did you get that picture? Who is it?

MMA is jui jitsu and Muay Thai kickboxing as well as other "martial arts." I'm sorry I didn't PUT words in your mouth and so May is okay?

I'm sorry I didn't PUT words in your mouth adn how long in Cali? You said a few more months?

I said "Martial arts" are bullshit..NOT "Mixed Martial arts".

Secondly kickboxing isn't "Fighting"...If it is...The women at the local YMCA must be real fighters eh? ::)

I said i'll be in Cali a few more months(Until June). June 3rd or 5th i'll be leaving california.

So in other words Muay Thai and PKA kickboxing isn't real fighting? And if you leave in JUNE then May should be okay?

It's "Fighting" by the loose definition "any contest or struggle" but then again so is..Paintball! Saying studying Muay Thai or "Pka kickboxing" makes you an effective street fighter is like saying playing paintball makes you effective real war.

Secondly...May should be OK..But I'm not driving up to san fran to kick some asian kids ass. You can drive to Blythe though if you want.

So May is fine. Blythe, where is it near? I don't study Muay Thai,  I practice the art (Fairtex of San Francisco), and yes I have competed albeit not at a professional level. And i'm over 40 yrs. old, however you're a young buck of 25 who just got a reduction on his car insurance rate, so I shouldn't be any problem to "stomp into the ground" right? What's a good day in May? :D

Are you stupid or something? You actually believe i'm serious? Do you seriously think i'm going to go off and fight someone from a message board? Do you know what aggravated assault is? If we meet and I whoop your ass..I'm open for a charge of aggravated assault. Concentual or not.

I don't know the proper avenues required for it to be legal either. There would have to be contracts,paperwork,Witnesses..ect..ect. These same things the UFC or other martial arts contests go through inorder to legally allow people to fight.

Considering this..It would be extremly stupid to just beat up some random person I meet on a message board since I don't even know them or trust them not to report the beating to the police. I spar with my friends all of the time since I know them and know they won't do anything...You I don't know or trust!

Secondly you're an "ethnic" so you might have H.I.V. or something like that that I could catch if I were to bust my fist open on your face and your blood get on my open wound. Not good...

For all your intellect you know as well as I do that the chances of getting H.I.V. from blood to an open wound are minute at best. No worry though, nothing to fear from that here. Sounds to me that you are a SCARED little boy who talks a great show, but isn't willing to SUPPORT your claims of having the ablity "stomp slant eyed persons into the ground." If you did it before wouldn't that be assault? Why would it be different now? Your word against mine would be hearsay. I say let's get in the ring, record it, that way we have proof tha it was mutual? COOL?

That's absolutely false...Many healthcare workers have become infected that way. Why do you think they wear resistant rubber gloves when they do anything to a patient involving blood?

Secondly....Don't you know what a JOKE is? I've never assaulted anyone. It was a FUCKING JOKE you nitwit! You yellow bastards don't know anything about jokes do you?

Thirdly...My word against yours would be hearsay? That makes absolutely no sense! Hearsay is where in court a person can't testify as to what a person said someone else said who was not present in the said conversation.

Fourthly...Again We'd need the paperwork and contracts to do it. And you'd have to get a blood test to make sure you have no infectious diseases..We'd also need witnesses.

All of this makes whooping your ass "Not worth the effort." Me whooping some nobodies ass on Getbig.com who isn't even wellknown would not make any sense and would not prove anything other than a big whiteboy like myself can whoop a little asian guys ass. Nothing amazing there!

Check it out. You're the one who made the claim, joke or not. I'm callin you on it. I don't care about the getbiggers reaction, I just want you to prove that you have the ability to take out someone like me. I see that Blythe is on the border of Cali and Arizona. It also is a dig site? Lot of paleontology there I guess. Right up your alley. Something leads me to believe you're nothing but this dweeb who post 18 times a day, at between 3am and 7am PST, maybe even more since February 2006, trying to show people that your an intellect, which by the way I DO admire, because it must be really boring there. I may be "yellow" to you, but you sound "yellow bellied". C'mon I'll come to Blythe.

You're right..I am scared of what would happen if I fought you. Not scared of your little yellow ass..Scared of the LAW. I don't feel like going to Prison right now so I'll pass on whooping your ass. I only moved here because it's close to Mexico.

Post some pictures so we can laugh at you.

What does posting my pics have anything to do with what we have been talking about? I offered a challenge and all you are doing is coming up with excuses to get your way out of it. I offered to go where you live, make it on a day where you're "free", I'll even offer to wear "protective" headgear and shin and knee guards which I will provide. Going to prison shouldn't be a worry because you shouldn't be able to "maim" me at that point. How about I throw the 1st punch then you can claim SELF-DEFENSE. Be a MAN step up to the plate. I'm assuming you moved closer to Mexico so you could get "juice" in which case would make you  much "bigger" than me. I am just some "small" Flip so what are you Scared of? The LAW thing is hilarious. Sounds more like a hen clucking. Quit being a BITCH and either take up the offer or just say "Uncle." You always back up your PROOF with facts, so the REAL only way to back up what you say is to actually "whoop my ass." Can't just say it becasue according to you it would be "baseless." It's all in good fun.

Hmmm, apparently you don't exist either. Most of the "background check" sources I have access to show no johnny apollo in CA or any state for that matter.  So that can only mean a few of things:

1. You live with parents or relatives and use their computer.
2. You are a 25 year old with really sh*tty credit.
3. You live outside of the US
4. There is no Johnny Apollo, and you just hide beind that name wishing it was your real name.
5. You're on the lam and don't want anyone to know who you are. You live in Blythe you said to be close to Mexico, for what gear or escape?

I'm inclined to believe number 4 because YOU said YOUR REAL NAME was Jonathan Apollo. I find it hard to believe someone with your intellect to be some schulb, trailer park, living in the middle of no where (Blythe)
You either have a good education or you are just really smart. I'm sure you'll say both. You are great with backing up your facts with quotes and info, so it's got to be either 2 or 4. You seem to post at the early morning hours, so I assume you sleep in the day and work a swing shift. I'm sure you work or else you would be on the boards more (Registered in 2/06 and over 480 posts? That's more that 4 times than me and I also registered 2/06). Still doesn't change the fact that you REFUSE to back up your "ass whooping" claim, but whatever I'll leave my offer open to you. I go back to Cali every 6 months to see family and going to Blythe wouldn't inconvience me. After I could go to "Disneyland" and celebrate.

A bber told me (a runner) that I would look good if I added 10 pounds of muscle.  I quit running and added 120 with 80 of it being muscle about (yes, I was too skinny for sure at first).  I'm glad I met the guy.

Oh yeah, I also got into it because of this cop from Texas.  Since he was a cop, he must have been natural.  I think his name was Ronald Coleman or something like that.  I thought I could look like him with a few more days at the gym...
