Chicago is not as bad as the news would have you believe
Nor is Detroit.
-
Nor is Detroit.
They're number 28. Chicago didn't make the top 50. That was my point
-
Neither is Saint Louis, not even close to those other third world shitholes
-
No Syrian or Iraqi cities on this list?
-

I know. I was shocked to see Detroit there and not Chicago. Neither really belong on a SERIOUS list but I guess they have more data than most so it is easier to include them. Also their negative reputations are well-known.
-
So I live in one of the 'Top 10' dangerous cities in the world.
-
No Syrian or Iraqi cities on this list?
I think it's only supported to be cities which aren't in a warzone, or at least not officially considered to be.
-
I think it's only supported to be cities which aren't in a warzone, or at least not officially considered to be.
War zones aside, middle eastern / African (excluding SA) shitholes are conspicuous by their absence, possibly due to the fact that don't collect / provide the data.
-
Good ol' U.S. of A. representing, as is Brazil.

How come there are no white cities on this list?
-
Venezuela is representing hard on that list
Brazil & Honduras are both honorable mentions
-
L. A. is missing.
is it that Bad? I remember seeing a report about Glasgow in Scotland being one of the most violent cities in W Europe because of Knife violence. Not anywhere near as bad as the ones mentioned because of Guns etc but was very bad for Gang Violence and knife attacks.
-
Juarez mexico , children, woman, and men drop like flies out there daily
-
No Syrian or Iraqi cities on this list?
Bingo. I know various cities in Syria would be off the chart for shooting deaths.
I suspect the list doesn't count "combat situations" , as if some avg guys fighting off ISIS nutballs trying to behead him and rape his wife, is war-like combat.
-
No surprises there. Thank you, Hugo Chavez. ::)
Yep, plenty of cities from the country on the list :-\

In 2015, it was revealed that the LAPD had been underreporting crime for eight years, making the crime rate in the city appear much lower than it really is. Approximately 14,000 assaults went unreported as "minor offenses" rather than violent crimes. Additionally, recent years have seen increased crime in the city.

Indeed, it's the same way in Ny and other big cities. Granted, some states have mellowed out with the ending of the crack wars, but a lot of it has to do with the introduction of Compstat policing. Before that, everything was slower, so crime was being reported more honestly. Now it's relatively instant, so the pressure is constant to show decreases, so numbers on all but the most serious crimes get fudged. Even with the big stuff there can be some numbers manipulation too sometimes.
ESPN of all places, had a big story about it over the Summer, including the lengths the NYPD went to to cover it up -

Longer story by The Village Voice, that's covered the issue for years -

Luckily for the criminals they have easy access to super-cheap military and police weapons while everyone else has to struggle to get a gun and wait years for approval.

Interesting list. What do all of these cities have in common? Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Manila, Philippines. most bad ass city not on any list. Been there a few times and not getting better.. LA's becoming too PC, and doesn't report/list many crimes...probably half of them. Both should be on the top on anyone's list. Not listed, but Mumbai ( Bombay) has to be right up there, though when there I was very impressed by that city that's wide open 24/7..including the noise and smells. A very well kept secret of the violence going on there.
Mexico is divided between 5 zones, controlled by drug cartels (unofficially of course...the paid for government denies all this) . Each trying to be more deadly than the other. Actually murders by the thousands, if being honest of what really goes on there. Learn to watch you back when there. Still SD & LA teenagers go to Tijuana for their weekend party buzz. Never reported, but rapes and beatings way up. We use to go surfing down in Baja, but haven't for a long time..even run into troubles with the locals down there.
Lot of older hippies moved to extreme Northern California/Oregon, would think it was the 1960's going through some of their colony's.
During WW2, the British were considered the best and most deadly knife fighters in the world...go figure. Don't know about to day. No doubt Mexico and Latin America have them beat by far.

What's wrong with central and South America?? Haha
-
What's wrong with central and South America?? Haha
A tradition of political destabilization, rife corruption and factionalism, scant regard for human life despite dense Catholicism, and Telemundo programming.
One thing for sure about bloodshed: Someone didn't knuckle under when told to. When's the last time we in the Developed Nations can say we stood so strongly for anything?
-
What's wrong with central and South America?? Haha
Protestants came into what is now modern day United States and Canada and cultivated/built upon the land.
Catholics went into what is now modern day Mexico, central and South America and stole the gold with little regard for anything else.
The results of this are what we see today.
