Title: fasted cardio , 1st thing in the morning? good/bad or what...
Post by: Howard on August 09, 2016, 09:24:19 AM
The most effective way I've found to do cardio for fat loss, is "fasted cardio".
I get up , take a thermogenic /pre workout and waddle over to the treadmill or stair climber.

The science behind this states that being in a fasted state , results in a higher % of stored fat to be burned.
The naysayers claim doing so, will burn more muscle tissue.

I think BOTH are true...huh?

It depends on your individual metabolism.

Naturally bulky dudes who can gain size easily often have problems getting ripped.
I'm in this camp and my main concern is losing fat to look ripped.
Thus, fasted cardio works wonders in helping me get ripped faster.

However, I've seen naturally thin guys, who lose muscle rapidly when doing fasted cardio.
Doing so, can cause them to end up looking like a surf board with abs LOL.

Digestion is an energy intensive activity. The more blood diverted to the digestive system, the less available for the working muscles. Fasted cardio for the win.

That said, people who view cardio as a weight loss tool almost invariably overeat. It's all about diet.

I agree 100%. Cardio without dieting doesn't get much blubber loss.

Actually fasted cardio is a good thing when you have a meal you release insulin which blocks growth hormone so you do not get a great fat burning effect, now doing cardio fasted means that growth hormone levels are high so you burn more fat, I would recommend that you take some caffeine and yohimbine to help the fat burning effects.

You live on five acres.

Go outside and move, use the treadmill only when that's impossible.

I'm retarded and might get lost.
Plus, I'd risk crossing a 12" deep stream which I might drown in.

The basement treadmill is safe and I won't drown or get lost. :P

I'm pro walking on treadmill at incline in air conditioned room. Outdoor cardio in humid 90 degree weather sucks balls. Fasted cardio works good for me, I just have a hard time waking up an hour early.

You are deluded. You don't gain size easily (fat doesn't count) and you've never been ripped either. HTH.

That would mean more cardio for you and less posting - win-win for all involved.

I haven't seen the fast/no fast make a difference- only restricting calories did. I was a competitive cyclist for years, btw, and the only reason I didn't eat much 3 hours before races or training  was because I'd throw it up, lol

This is a great question, and wonder if anyone can conclusively say one or the other.  I was wondering this myself after reading something in MD mag fees years ago, can't remember if it was George Farah or another trainer making the claim that basically fasted cardio was a myth, you do burn much more muscle making any fat loss less important, etc. The other idea was really interesting to me and still has me confused is that fasted cardio wasn't even as effective due to not having any nutrients and carbs would render the cardio so much less productive due less energy then you could expend later in the day.  Made me think critically and admit that you definitely seem to be able to push much harder then if you are starving and had no carbs.  Any opinions?

Getting a six pack needs to stay about as scientific as not stuffing your face.

That people think that they're starving because they haven't eaten in 12 hours is one of the reasons that there are so many fat fucks walking around.

Because you have no food in your stomach doesn't mean you have no fat or glycogen stores.

Coffeed and NM are spot on. People talk this shit to death and turn it into a Biochemistry Thesis because they don't want to put the fork down.

I am supposed to be on a bulk at the moment, I have been off my food for a few days (appetite just off), I have tightened up and look about 6 weeks from stepping onstage.
No diet, no selective eating, no specific foods.

Eat less get in shape.

Go cut some firewood.  Your wife will lose respect for you if you buy it from another man and she will have sex with him.

why do you assume that she respects him now? and for the record Howard is not above watching another man plow his wife while he watches and jerks off... and tips the guy extra for a "muddy show"

Been trying to get him to use his chainsaw for awhile now.  Hilarity is sure to ensue.

Have a drink first tho, Howard.  Have several.  More hilarity more better.
