How on earth is that even possible??
-
How on earth is that even possible??
Because the Public school systems is ran by the ACLU.
-
democrats voice goes through union's ass, then the union pukes it in mainstream media's ass, then the mainstream media pukes it in community orginzer-chief's ass and it will puke in george soros's ass and after the information has mutated enough in his stomac... then the new brave america grows its wings.
-
ACLU didn't do it.
Lou Lavely, Travelers Rest High School Principal, is the moron on a power trip trying to make national news with this move.
-
Pathetic weakness like this is only made right when there is an impalement.
-
People need to stop worrying about stupid shit like this. Who cares if a mediocre quarterback decides to sit during a national anthem. Who cares if some podunk town, decides not to display the American Flag during games. Isn't that what the freedom of expression is supposed to be about? The government has already ruled that it is not a crime to burn the American Flag.
You can't have it both ways. People will continue to push the boundaries of the first amendment, until shit hits the fan.
-
Who wanted the ban of the flag?
Did South Carolinians complain? Or BLM maybe?
Does this Lou Lavely have an agenda of Peace?
Just has he ever picked up a barbell??

sounds to me like some renegade principal who has never lifted, decided to make a name for himself with this.
probably trying to write a book or get work as a local community leader. I'd reckon he's running for city council or some other bullshit because last year's scores sucked and he knows he's out in May anyway, when this years' come in and it's still a C or D school.
He's making a Plan B and he's using the right-wing media to do it... knowing FOX and Breitbart and others will be all over it, will motivate his local angry base, and he's hoping in 2 years he's mayor because of it.
Don't give him that.

I haven't looked at it and my first thought has been that it's a fake story, because it just sounds too outrageous.

Travelers Rest is a absolute shit hole. I'm not even shocked by this story.
Let's see is Byrnes High School does the same thing. :-\

I don't particularly agree with this story. Am I correct to assume that a rogue principal decided this on his own? If that is the case, then it is completely wrong. You have to at least have the school vote to a majority decision, otherwise you are just acting like a dictator.
I am all for freedom of expression, but as an individual. It becomes a problem when you use a position of power, to force people into your way of thinking.
Unfortunately, that seems to be a world problem, not just an American one.

Idk and haven't looked yet, but imo when these entities like a 'school district' (or whatever) produce these insane ideas -- like another one in the Carolinas that decided teachers should stop referring to boys and girls as that -- then someone needs to be called out by name and made to answer.
-
Let everyone show up and display our flag, and let someone try to interfere imo. We'll quickly see who wins.
-

It's all about the individual's right. When you start effecting others, is where the lines blur very quickly. The perfect example is the flying of the Rebel Flag. I completely understand why (after controversial public outcry) that public buildings would choose to remove the flags. However, it is absolutely anyone's right to fly the Rebel flag from their cars, homes, etc..... and the law is bound to protect those individual's rights.
Opinions do not harm people inherently. Hate crimes do.
-
OK, so the claim is that the flag has been used to "taunt" people.
How in the heck can a flag be used to "taunt", exactly?
Like I said, someone is looking for an ass-kicking, and that's the real story.
-

If the AMERICAN FLAG "taunts" you, then you are in the wrong country. The sheer concept of that is unfathomable.
What happens after people start banning the American Flag from public display? There is absolutely no way that the majority of that town wants this to happen. Therefore, those top officials responsible, need to be removed immediately.
-
American flag should be banned everywhere. :P
-
The school thinks that they are "taking a stand" against racist cops.
But they are really just disrespecting the men & women that serve in the US Armed Forces

Yes, the rock-solid foundation is the fact that we're in America. Let them play their game somewhere else, then, and they can shove Mexican flags where the sun don't shine for all we care.
-
American flag should be banned everywhere. :P
;D......but seriously. There is nothing more sacred than a country's flag/colors. They have been waived by every civilization since dudes knew how to make shit. You don't like the American flag being flown in public places? Then get the fuck out. I'm sure my friends from all over the world can agree with me on that. Your flag means more than just some cloth billowing in the wind. It is your heritage. People have fought, died, and have been tortured
for the flags that fly in all of our countries. We might not all see eye to eye in this world, but if you take away a country's flag, then that country ceases to exist.
-
The school thinks that they are "taking a stand" against racist cops.

They're disrespecting everyone who loves this country. They're doing it based on some idea which says that some unknown people may be getting their unknown feelings hurt.
No. I don't think so. Take that bullshit idea and leave America, permanently.
-
Tell us about the place. Dirt poor, drugs, a bunch of cop haters?
It's a town full of red necks, just trashy, not a place that you want to visit. It used to be a good town till a few years ago and now it's worthless. :-\ it was the talk of the gym this morning, but that's travelers rest, sadly.

Flags carried by fans have been used to taunt Hispanics...along with other racial slur. In fact, technically when any act of disrespect occurs, the flag is to be rolled up and put away

Hey Vince, can you give me some specifics around this?
I ask because if the Hispanic is in the US, they must want to be in the US, and are therefore as "American" as anyone else, right?
Last I saw, if anyone didn't like the country they lived in, they could leave right?
-

That has nothing to do with the American Flag, and everything to do with the person holding it. It's just laziness and good o'l boys to blame.
If they are being blatantly racist, then kick those rednecks out of the stands.
Seriously, what does a flag have to do with controlling idiots?
-
Is the place going to be liberated ?

I hope the guy is run out of town.

None of this story makes sense. Rednecks are responsible for the potential removal of the American Flag, from football games?
Maybe this is the end of times? :-\

I agree, Tu. This is a very strange way of approaching the alleged problem, to go right for the flag. Very strange.

Aren't you Russian? The fact that you had to quote your own post, proves something. You will always be the little brother to the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Edit: Just to be clear, I like Putin. He just cannot work miracles for a 3rd world country.

No, imo any rednecks that are involved, are being used. Because if some issue exists, which I still haven't seen described in any detail, then going right for the flag seems to be the real objective and they may be nothing but a convenient excuse.
Let's not forget that another place in the Carolinas has decided that boys and girls aren't actually that.
-

Yes, the flag is representative of the nation as a whole. It seems as if there is some confusion about who the flag represents... I am under the impression it represents all people in this nation, even (especially?) those who left their previous homes to seek out a better life for themselves.
If someone is using the flag to denigrate a group of people, then it's not the flag... Those people probably love the US as much as anyone... That is why they came to this country in the first place right? To have the opportunity at a better life?
It just doesn't seem like a very reasonable approach to stop some bigotry.

I blame the local populations for letting that happen. Then again, I am assuming that they would have a voice in the matter.
I may ask my parents for a tin foil hat for Christmas......Oh my bad! Happy Holidays!!!!

They're the ones trying to display the flag, actually.

Why a foil hat?
-
if I was running for office and my base with a bunch of cop haters who love colon kapernick, then a stunt like this flag one would be a good one.
in a redneck town, seems stupid. unless he is trying to push the confederate flag. people in FL are suing and calling the newspaper cause schools don't let them hang the confederate flag from their trucks.
-
I'd love for this guy to say, "look, it was a mistake.. I did the wrong thing."
Just let it go and no problem.
Either that, or make it perfectly clear -- with facts -- as to why he wants to take this road. Because I'll tell you right now, that can't be done and he will be defeated trying.
-
Why a foil hat?
Because American traditions are becoming extinct. Many stores have been forced to say "Happy Holidays" instead of Merry Christmas.
The ironic twist to all of this, is that I am not religious. However, I have a problem with outside forces, dictating, how Americans should live.
Christmas is a sacred holiday for Americans. For me, it has nothing to do with religion. Christmas is Christmas. Its about love, children, and family
You don't change the name for monetary or political reasons.

Simple. How would a town full of rednecks, be ok with the removal of the American Flag. That simply does not make sense.

I sincerely doubt most are OK with it. This guy did a very stupid thing and he's going to have to live with the fact that he took the cheapest of shots to "fix" (or pretend to try to fix) some vague problem that has something to do with hurt feelings.
Best thing he could do imo is to apologize very convincingly and say he was having a bad day and wasn't thinking clearly.
-
kapernick is gonna get paid to not play this year, if they cut him. 18 or 19 million to sit?
-
I hope he's doing right and not throwing the money away on junk. I doubt there's much call for pinheaded ex-NFLers with chips on their shoulders.

Keep the flag. Ban the football.

ACLU didn't do it.
Lou Lavely, Travelers Rest High School Principal, is the moron on a power trip trying to make national news with this move.
I'm not going to disagree with you and he could have allowed it but the ACLU has the public school systems by the balls with threats of lawsuits because of the PC crap. All it takes is one complaint to the ACLU and the district gets tied up in legal. In Jan of this year I posted this up in my weightroom at school facing out into our corridor. I put it up before our 5:30am session to send a message. Late that afternoon it was removed. I asked the head coach why it was removed he stated when the principal was touring campus with the district heads they had it removed because "it might be offensive to other athletes". I told both the coach (who fully agreed with me as was just as frustrated) and the principal that my intention was just that.

Banning the flag won't stop anyone from saying "go back to Mexico".
So once again, we're back to the fact this move doesn't make any sense.
-
Btw, I agree this probably isn't driven by an agenda. IMO this is just a dumb guy doing a stupid thing.

Trying to gain popularity?
I don't know, really. But it can't make him terribly popular around many people in South Carolina. I wouldn't want to be this guy, having to go about his business after doing this. But it's his own fault and I hope he understands he fucked up.
But he was probably frustrated with the whiners being offended by some minor football aggression, and he made a snap decision about it. Really dumb move, though, the way he went about it.
-
The Carolinas have historically been bastions of idiocy.

Seeing reports the Lavely guy has a history of doing things like this.

That same kid so show up to the next game with an ACLU flag the same size and start waving that around. And then record what the principle/teachers say and do to him. I'm willing to bet they do nothing to him...
-
I know people are mentioning the ACLU in various stories, but they weren't involved at all afaik.
-
Story now seems to be that only "certain" people were stopped from entering with a flag.
Whole thing is just too much. If there are people they need to refuse entry to (due to being 86'ed for trouble-making or whatever) then do that.
Why in the world the dumbshit principal involved flags in all this is beyond me.
-
Travelers Rest, SC (The Greenville News, WLTX) - Travelers Rest's Principal has reversed his decision to restrict the carrying of the American flag at high school football games.
People became upset and took to social media after a Travelers Rest student was blocked from carrying the flag into the stadium. Several people claimed in their posts that the decision was made before the Travelers Rest-Berea game because it might offend Berea’s large Hispanic community.
At the time, Travelers Rest’s principal, Lou Lavely, said the American flag has been used in the past to “taunt” Berea students, leading to confrontations. “Student safety (and in the case of a football game, safety of all attending) is our primary concern,” Lavely said. “It is the responsibility of the school to provide the safest environment possible, and no object, sign, chants by students, etc. would be permitted if they compromise safety.”
In a statement Monday from the district, Lavely denies that he believes or ever stated that the flag would be offensive in Berea.
He added that on Monday morning, he met with students and faculty, who told him that students should be judged on their own merits and not the actions of past students. As a result of that meeting, students will be allowed to bring the American flag to any and all Travelers Rest High School events. If needed, the the high school will address misuse of the flag or any other inappropriate behavior on an individual basis.
“I fully support Mr. Lavely’s thoughtful reconsideration, and his willingness to respond to advice and input from his community,” said Greenville County Superintendent Burke Royster in a statement. “I am appreciative of the Travelers Rest High School community for sharing its concerns and opinions on this matter in a respectful, civil manner. I also appreciate and applaud their desire to promote patriotism and service as a part of the culture of their school and am in agreement that students’ desire to carry and display the American flag should be encouraged and supported throughout the District.”
Before this new decision was made, Berea High Principal Mike Noel issued a statement in support of Lavely.
"I am in full support of Mr. Lavely's actions at the football game on Friday night. He was protecting the greatest symbol of our nation, the American Flag. His decision was based on the premise that the American flag should not be used in a disrespectful or unsportsmanlike like manner. He made the right decision", Noel said in an email statement from the school district.
"Mr. Lavely should be celebrated for his dedication to supporting our veterans and encouraging student to love and respect our great nation", according to the statement. "We educate our students on how to display good sportsmanship and to show respect to our opponents. Both teams played hard and should be celebrated for their efforts on the field. Both schools and communities need to embrace the spirit of competition in a positive manner, and show respect for each other's achievements."

Glorious!
