Title: 2016 IFBB North American - Chris Bumstead Wins North America.
Post by: stuntmovie on September 03, 2016, 09:17:36 AM
As forecast by a few Getbiggers, Canada's functional muscle competitor won the North America on a Wednesday last week.

No surprise about Chris' win, but is this the first NPC/IFBB event ever to be held during a mid~week day?

It does appear that the NPC/IFBB is getting so popular that an NPC/IFBB contest can be held every day of the year now and still fill the ranks with worthy competitors regardless of what the haters are contending.

Working with  Kindle right now so maybe some other Getibigger can post some contest shots of Chris.

Wiggs, any comments about this Canadian's competitive future would be appreciated. You 'is' smart when it comes to picking winners.i

having a show midweek will totally fuck up 99% of bodybuilders who can only diet and prep Sunday to Saturday.

stunt,

I think of you as a Getbig bud but I'm sorry I must correct you.  Bumstead did not win the overall of the North American championship; he came in second.  The overall winner was Luis Rodriguez, photo below.   Coming in second though, Bumstead still won his pro card.

The North American is a big contest.   It's two days of men and two days of women.

REPS , Thanks for the correction.

I am impressed by CHRIS because back in my time most of us who lifted heavy things did so in an effort to enhance physical performance (functional muscle - a big term back then) and those who lifted  otherwise were politely referred to as 'bulky  blunders' who most likely would be unable to pass any test that would require extended physical endurance which was required in most branches of the US military back them.

And Chris does appear to do well in any physical test thrown his way .... while the vast majority of the pros appear otherwise.

Thank again, REPS!

He's a good dude. He beat Bostin in that local show in CT and Bostin posted that this guy would be a pro.

Nine days out and on stage.

do they have second in the overall?
They do. They use the placements to give out pro cards like at the USA.

they hand them out like sweets, it used to be a single card per class, now its every man and his dog.

One pro card per year in the UK, its disgraceful.

SLIK, I still have no idea why the bodybuilding event was held mid-week rather than on a Saturday evening, but the promoter evidently had good reasons to do so.

But the only reason I can think of at this moment in time is that the bodybuilding contenders were fewer in number than the number of contenders that appeared on stage on Friday or Saturday evenings.

The greater the number of contestants on any particular evening means the greater number of seats that will be occupied.

Today's promoters have to be wise and study all the facts regarding the possible profit or loss that each event generates ...  so this just might have placed some importance on  running the bodybuilding contest (fewer contestants) on a Wednesday evening which would draw fewer seat fillers and save the events which will pack the huse during the weekend evenings.

Or possibly something like that.

There was no intent to 'downgrade' the bodybuilding event at all.

And I don't know if  this will be  the norm in every NPC/IFBB event in the future, but due to the growth and popularity of these contests, something like this most likely had to be done.

The rapid membership growth within the NPC and the IFBB is bringing about many changes that have been necessary due to the competitive  interest among a vast number of contestants throughout the USA.

Stunt, of course there was no content to degrade bodybuilding on the promoters part. I know Gary personally and his whole life revolves around bodybuilding and promoting it. He's a great guy all I'm saying is he would probably agree that it sucks to be at the field of bodybuilding  for whatever reason may not be a big draw to the shows. If it were the big draw it would be on the big nights Friday or like he used to be on Saturday nights. I'm sure it's purely a business decision.  Stunt back in the day I work the front desk at Mannions gym. Those were the days.   I was so lucky to be there and witness all that at that time.

Gdam Siri, I'm too lazy to fix that stuff I'm on my phone right now

SEMPER Fi, J.!

Great to see another JarHead on this site.

I don't know when and how long you served but I've got a lot of medals to be proud of but ..... my  proudest day in the Corps was the day I was officially adopted by the US Army 101st Airborne.

And I also gotta admit that it was my 'funnest' couple of days within a combat environment.

Yea, "Bulky Blunders" was a polite term used back then for those who lifted heavy things and won those beach city bodybuilding titles but
could not meet the requirement of any standardized physical fitness test.

But in the majority of times that term was used respectfully and was nothing like the shit that goes on today if you happen to look better than those guys who use their fingers to say something incognito.

Good meeting ya, J.

PS ....Do they still serve SOS (Shit on a Shingle)?

SLIK, Great to hear that you worked at Manion's.

I am west coast kind of guy and never did get a chance to see his gym but I have known the entire family for a good number of years now and I do think highly of each of them.

Jim's job is a damn hard job and it's impossible to keep everyone happy but in my opinion he's dong a hell of a great job on behalf of both the NPC and the IFBB.

NPC/FBB membership has grown one-billion percent (gross exaggeration) since he took over the IFBB .... which growth apparently was never considered by Mr Weider while his was in control.

The only problem I have with the growth of the IFBB  is that there are so many pros now-a-days that it's impossible  for me to recall 90% of them.

It must be one hell of a task just keeping that roster current.
