SLIK, I still have no idea why the bodybuilding event was held mid-week rather than on a Saturday evening, but the promoter evidently had good reasons to do so.
But the only reason I can think of at this moment in time is that the bodybuilding contenders were fewer in number than the number of contenders that appeared on stage on Friday or Saturday evenings.
The greater the number of contestants on any particular evening means the greater number of seats that will be occupied.
Today's promoters have to be wise and study all the facts regarding the possible profit or loss that each event generates ... so this just might have placed some importance on running the bodybuilding contest (fewer contestants) on a Wednesday evening which would draw fewer seat fillers and save the events which will pack the huse during the weekend evenings.
Or possibly something like that.
There was no intent to 'downgrade' the bodybuilding event at all.
And I don't know if this will be the norm in every NPC/IFBB event in the future, but due to the growth and popularity of these contests, something like this most likely had to be done.
The rapid membership growth within the NPC and the IFBB is bringing about many changes that have been necessary due to the competitive interest among a vast number of contestants throughout the USA.
