PHILADELPHIA (CBS)—A new study suggests that married people are healthier than those who are single.
The study was conducted at Carnegie Mellon University and published in Psychoneuroendocrinology .
To conduct the study, researchers collected saliva samples from 572 healthy adults aged 21-55 over three non-consecutive days. Multiple samples were taken during each 24-hour period and tested for cortisol.
Researchers found that married individuals had lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol than those who never married or were previously married.
The findings support the belief that single people, including those who are divorced or windowed, face more psychological stress than married individuals.
“It’s is exciting to discover a physiological pathway that may explain how relationships influence health and disease,” said Brian Chin, a Ph.D. student in the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Sciences’ Department of Psychology.
Researchers also compared each person’s daily cortisol rhythm. Those who were married showed a faster decline, a pattern that has been associated with less heart disease, and longer survival among cancer patients.
“These data provide important insight into the way in which our intimate social relationships can get under the skin to influence our health,” said laboratory director and co-author Sheldon Cohen, the Robert E. Doherty University Professor of Psychology.

But I have heard about studies suggesting that single women are healthier and live longer than married women. Although the one you posted suggests women benefit from marriage as well.
But us men need to come up with something we can attract females with or within a decade we will be fucking each others here. Increasing amount of women don't need our income anymore, women have lady friends they can share joys and sorrows with, women can get a baby alone if they want, women find other women attractive too and most men are not that attractive to be honest... hell, just read that women are more likely to get orgasm with another woman than with man :-\

Men say it because they know it's hard time for average Manfred to find a new wife if old one leaves him (men rarely are the active part seeking divorce).
Women always want to show they are strong and independent. Because they really are not.

I can't think for them, but often the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
Being too much of a rational person myself, I don't care so much about the technical form of a relationship; it's rather the quality of the relationship that matters (read: affects someone's health the most in the positive sense)

My pet peeve about married people is when the husband is beta and asks his wife if he can do shit with his friends. I would never ask permission to do something. Now if he has plans with the wife he should ditch her to go out with his buds, but asking permission, i just smh when I hear this.

Haha it's probably the best way to learn her mate, to a woman unfinished jobs around the house are the same as a red rag to a bull. She harped on for two holidays this year as well but a week in a caravan at wooler and a week at pease bay wont break the bank.
