Where you put a barbell across your hips, shoulders on a bench, and extend your hips. I see tons of people doing these... And not just girls, either. Saw a guy at the gym doing them with 4 plates, today...
Anyone do these? Seems like an awkward version of the deadlift.

There was a video of Chris Dickerson doing something like this in another thread. He also had a spotter helping him.

Yes, we have two in the gym. I've always stressed posterior chain work. The hip raises is just another exercise we do. Usually done as glute activation before we start warm ups before lower body work or before any running drills.

I need to get my flat ass back in the gym. Those machine glute/ham raises do wonders for my lower back, which is presently out of wack. Sucker hurts and spasms like a son-of-bitch when I squat down to pick something up. -Don't think I should do them with added weight just yet.

Only ever see chicks doing this exercise.

Saw one guy doing these a month ago. Using 2 of the 100lbs plates from the dead lift area. He struggled for about 10 minutes just getting into position and then did this little "3 inch dick poke" movement once he started. There was no other movement at all except his pelvis making these little jabbing movements in the air.

No, I don't care how good they are for the posterior chain, I refuse to entertain the thought of performing any excercise that results in a bigger ass. You train athletes for sports and prioritise function over form I fully understand that, but would you honestly be doing them if you trained purely for bodybuilding?

I started these a month ago.
Feel like a doofus doing them, but it's a good exercise, for all the reasons given above.
I'm getting to the point where I actually have to really focus on hip/hammy stretching/rolling just do be able to do a normal back squat.
Since I'm really bad at doing anything outside a pvc pipe foam roll, I end up looking for other exercises like this one.

The glutes function is to bring the femur backward. Exercises that exercise the glutes are squats, deads, cleans, snatches, leg press, jumps, sprints, back extensions and yes that hip thrust exercise. Why bother with that awkward exercise when so many conventional exercises hit it and some from complete contraction to extension like a full range Olympic squat?

Having a strong powerful glute will increase your overall strength, you will see a difference in exercises like the squat, deadlift, leg press etc.

So what you are saying that is wise to use your gluteus (the largest muscle in your body) if you want to add size to your thighs? And this is your level of knowledge? Of course it increase your overall strength, because you use your naturally strong gluteus instead of your weak thighs. Instead of that it would be far better to concentrate use your thighs and try not to use your gluteus at all. That was a one of the main points of the leg training by Tom Platz ;D

Unfortunately, some men have big asses regardless of exercise. Black people seem more prone to this. The fellow pictured has a butt that is disproportionate to the rest of his build. On the other hand, many people of Northern European ancestry, like me, struggle to have any glutes at all.
