Title: SPOT REDUCTION MYTH OR FACT?
Post by: alexxx on April 06, 2006, 07:27:25 PM
Can somebody help me out. I want my waist to go back down to 29 inches like it used to be but like an idiot I trained my obliques for one month and out they came :( Can I just twist with the bar for an hour to get rid of obliques?

There's no such thing... like a female with good looks who cooks and cleans.

whichever direction you did to train obliques, just do the same exercise the opposite way for reduction of target muscles.

before you guys get too involved in this debate, our resident genius alexxx isnt talking about reducing fat.  he's talking about exercising a muscle with the intent to shrink it.

makes so much sense!  lift to shrink certain muscles, enlarge other ones.

no problem!  when i want to shrink my chest i usually do the opposite of bench presses i.e. bent over barbell rows.  thus the chest will shrink and change the proportion accordingly.

i also do dips to shrink my traps and sometimes do hyperextensions to make my abs smaller.

Doesn't the greek chair swing and hang from the ceiling.  They have them at Balley's Alexxx, ask around.

seriously though

you just got fatter, they're called love handles not obliques.

I have seen your pics your pretty fleshy.  stop eating so much, then at least you will be ripped.  You can try to bulk but I guarantee that without gear you will never be big and lean.

Well I can garantee that I can. But I did build up my obliques :( my waist right now is 36 inches and it used to be 29. Are you saying that if I diet I could go back down to 29 like it was 3 years ago?

yes very easily.  come on do you really think that if you got lean you'd have that much extra muscle on each oblique.  That's just where men store fat.

No ofcourse you're not fat.  Go to the mall and watch the lardasses spilling out of their pants, those people are fat.  BUT you're no where near ripped.  I think you would probably have to lose at least 20lbs of fat to get into contest shape and probably more (It's hard for me to gauge because I don't know your height, but if you're over 6'0" probably closer to 30 lbs of fat).  If you did that your waist would be back to it's original shape, and with a little bit of creative posing would look even smaller.  So don't worry about carrying too much abdominal muscle.  Natural Bodybuilders don't need to worry about abdominal overgrowth, it's just a matter of getting lean.

I have wide obliques too.. the only way to make them shrink sort of is to make everything bigger ... and diet... When I play b-ball i find my obliques are sore so if i were to do abs the next day i would omit training them. Mentzner had the same problem so your in good company regardless....

Arnold suggested seated and standing twist..

Don't you know anything about training?  Spot reducing is not possible.  You can work on your chest and legs to give the illusion of a smaller waist, but theirs no such thing as spot training.  Train everything and the obliques will respond accordingly.
