I have Netflix now. ;D
It's annoying to navigate around all the leftist propaganda. But they actually have a few Getbig-related documentaries. One is playing right now - "Froning: The Fittest Man in History."
Then I looked up Rich Froning, and some of his stats:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Froning_Jr.
Clean and Jerk: 380 lb (170 kg)
Snatch: 306 lb (139 kg)
Deadlift: 570 lb (260 kg)
Backsquat:475 lb (215 kg)
Those are pretty good lifts. He is the same height as I am - 5'9 - and weighs 190, above my 170. With a proper cycle, I could get to his muscular weight within six months or less.
For perspective, I have done a "modified" Clean and Jerk using 215 - but that comprised rowing the weight from the top of the deadlift position to the start of the pressing position. But I don't train Olympic lifts. Had I properly used my hips to thrust the weight up, I think I could have gotten 230+. That said, I am confident in my ability to hit a Clean and Jerk of 280 with time and training...but 380? That's massive. Double body weight for Froning.
It looks like I am within 100-lb of his conventional lifts, and they would go up a little if I put on 20-lb to get my body weight up to 190-lb - whether I used steroids or not to get to that weight, my lifts would go up. I am confident in my ability to deadlift 535 @190. I'm not so sure about 570.
The point that I'm trying to make here is that CrossFit gets made fun of a lot - but Froning's lifts seem really good. For perspective, I will be heading to the CAASA provincials this weekend representing Western Ontario in the lightweight strongman class (<170-lb). Froning is a fair amount stronger than me, and is almost as strong as Jeffrey Nason who competes in the middleweight class (170-lb to 199-lb). He placed 2nd in Canada last year in the middleweight class and he will be competing at World's this year. For perspective, his max squat is similar to Froning's, and his max deadlift was 605 @205-lb.
This brings a couple of questions to my mind - why is CrossFit made fun of so much? Secondly, is CrossFit a good representation of "The Fittest Man on Earth"? Exactly what does CrossFit comprise to make that claim, in addition to the strength component?
[ I am watching the video right now, and there is a section right now about Froning not being able to knock up his girl. Hmm...although I guess that could be her fertility issues, not his.]

Froning has since been displaced by Ben Smith, and I am not sure who the 2017 "Fittest Man on Earth" is, if that has even been determined yet.
What is the cardio/running component of CrossFit? To be "normal" sized with lifts as heavy as those outlined in the OP, combined with decent speed is very impressive to me. I know that everyone here goes to gyms where everyone is bench pressing 315 for reps, but where I'm from, Froning's lifts would be placing him very highly in strength contests.
CrossFit champions have poor hairlines for young men? ;D

Matt, Keep in mind, Netflix programing is reactionary. They make recommendations based on what you watch, "Because you watched.....we recommend...." Choose what you view on Netflix carefully and your experience should be good, but you run the risk of narrowing your perspective, which is not so good.
One real plus for me is the lack of advertising. You can actually get through a twenty minute uninterupted program in twenty minutes instead of thirty.
-
With a build like that, I'm gonna guess the "running" component of CrossFit is limited to sprints. I think some of their workouts stretch up to a mile or more but I can't imagine ritchs long distance performance is even in the same standard deviation as his strength feats.

Fittest man on earth ::)
-
survival of the fittest.
fittest man on earth should be either someone who can be dropped in the jungle and survive or someone who can be dropped in the concrete jungle and survive, meaning being able to score crack, hookers, survive a drive by shooting, avoiding getting arrested etc.
this shit the crossfitters are doing is completely pointless.
-
The Fittest Man on Earth is the Man who can blend in and survive in any environment, be it in the deepest africa, the saharan desert, the jungle of the amazon, the suburbs in West Linn, Oregon, Detroit, being able to last one evening in the club "The Pig 'n' Whistle" in Newcastle Upon Tyne, on getbig and of course in da Cage.

Does he claim to be all organic?

decathlete hands down
fyi if black dudes and eastern European dudes did crossfit they would own that sport.
Russian Olympic lifter types would own

No one gives a shit about you or your asinine middle, Western, southern tip of east Thunder Bay 132 lb strongman class.
So stop pimping your stupid shit here or start paying Fat Ron to advertise.

That's a great way to look at it - if he is as fast as he is strong, that would be pretty impressive. If. But as you said, it is likely not in the same standard deviation! Nice to see that you are using the correct terminology to assess it.

A lot of truth to what you are saying. It's rich white man's sport judging by they outrageous monthly fees crossfit gyms charge.

Dude is strong as shit, and also athletic, and has a better build than 99% of the people here.
I think crossfit is dangerous and dumb, but that's not the point.

Recently, a crossfitter demonstrated me a monkey press (hanging on one arm while pressing a 50 pound kettlebell). Thought I had a decent grip, but mine is nothing compare to him :-[

While I can't understanding anyone actually wanting to do that, yes, that's an impressive grip.

I guess he found out that he wasn't talented in the basic lifts, so the last couple of months he's focusing on circus-like movements with ketllebells, like these presses, Turkish get ups, swings, etc. Not my thing either, but it's challenging from another perspective.

I can relate to that. The power clean / overhead squat, etc can be a pain in the ass.
Given that, turkish get ups, swings, OH carries I can understand. Getups are very challenging....
But hanging one handed and pressing a KB? Nah. Although he could just be screwing around.....doubt they train for that.

The thing with crossfitters is that they want to become/stay strong, athletic and flexible at the same time. In other words: they have conflicting goals. Unlike bodybuilders who switch between off season & pre contest or powerlifters who perform some kind of periodisation, they threw everything in the mix at once. Granted, the guy who won that contest has some impressive stats, so he must be doing something right.

They are athletes.
It's just that the exercises they utilize to get in that shape carry an element of danger in the way they're utilized (coach would be better off commenting on this).
That's why I like Soflete - it gives the benefits of strength/stamina/conditioning, but it's not all "thrown in".....there's lots of thought behind it.

lots of people getting a hard on for crossfit in this thread

Blah, blah, blah....no one fucking cares. You're skinny small weak and queer.
On the other hand that makes you a perfect representative of Ontario

The top crossfit guys are impressive. Good physiques and explosive power all while still being able to run a mile in a good time. Dangerous sport though and I hear they're injured all the time. Probably a good thing for everyone to do, only with much lighter weight.

Matt has a Howard like quality where he starts threads on a very specific topice that he inevitably turns into a how he'd do in comparison if all things were equal.
It's odd behavior for someone over 30.
It's the natural/drug free mindset if I did Y I could have been X that comes across as the most annoying.
Good strength for his size though.

Matt you can't say you're staying at 170 for good health and then in the same breath talk about over loading your frame moving large weights.
It's fine you want to compete in strongman at your weight but as another light heavyweight competitor told me at NAS nationals no one cares about the world's strongest little man, they want to see the strongest man period.

The twink is 170 FFS.
He'd be better off posting his sperm count results at a high school swim meet.

What do you think about Demetres Giannitsos from Canada's BB? He is described as a bber type.

I think crossfit is dangerous and dumb, but that's not the point.
Your first sentence summed up my position. I'm not sure how dangerous CrossFit is, and if it is dangerous I would say that also makes it dumb, but I imagine you have looked into it and little more than I have, in order to hold that position.
I wanted to say that Rich Froning probably has size comparable to Frank Zane - but Frank was 185 to 205 in contest condition. That may have put him closer to 215 in the same condition as Rich, with both being the same height - 5'9.
So Frank probably has 10-lb or more in pure muscle on Rich, but Rich still has a great physique, and clearly a functional physique at that.
