Charlie Rose’s CBS News career came to an unceremonious end Tuesday when the network fired him over allegations of sexual harassment.

“A short time ago we terminated Charlie Rose’s employment with CBS News, effective immediately,” CBS News President David Rhodes wrote in a note to staff. “This followed the revelation yesterday of extremely disturbing and intolerable behavior said to have revolved around his PBS program. Despite Charlie’s important journalistic contribution to our news division, there is absolutely nothing more important, in this or any organization, than ensuring a safe, professional workplace — a supportive environment where people feel they can do their best work. We need to be such a place.”

Rose’s departure marks the downfall of one of television’s most venerable journalists and a major blow to CBS News, which enjoyed its greatest success ever in the morning thanks to “CBS This Morning,” which was built around Rose and his co-anchors, Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell, in 2012.

Rose’s serious demeanor and ability to engage a wide range of personalities in politics, the arts and business earned him respect and global recognition. He frequently jetted off to land interviews with world leaders.

“There is not a single person of note on the planet who does not know who he is,” said one CBS News executive who spoke on condition of anonymity. “His talent was so in the stratosphere.”

CBS had moved quickly Monday to suspend Rose, 75, after the Washington Post reported that day that eight women said they were subjected to inappropriate behavior while working with him. The story said Rose made unwanted sexual advances, appeared nude in their presence or groped them. His PBS talk show also was halted and there was no immediate update on the long-term status of the program.

Rose posted a statement on Twitter apologizing for his “inappropriate behavior.”

“I am greatly embarrassed. I have behaved insensitively at times, and I accept responsibility for that, though I do not believe that all of these allegations are accurate,” he said. “I always felt that I pursued shared feelings though I now realize that I was mistaken.”

On the Tuesday morning “CBS This Morning” broadcast, King and Donnell weighed in about their colleague.

“There is no excuse for this alleged behavior,” O’Donnell said. “It is systematic and pervasive, and I’ve been doing a lot of listening and I’m going to continue to do that. This I know is true: Women cannot achieve equality in the workplace or in society until there is a reckoning and a taking of responsibility.”

King said she was “reeling” from the revelations about Rose and got little sleep before Tuesday’s episode of the show.

“We are all rocked by this,” King said. “And I — I want to echo what Norah said. I really applaud the women that speak up despite the friendship. He doesn’t get a pass because I can’t stop thinking about the anguish of these women, what happened to their dignity, what happened to their bodies, what happened maybe to even their careers.”

For CBS, a change to the lineup around the glass roundtable at its studio in Manhattan presents a challenge for what has become a profitable bright spot for its news division.

Rose’s presence on “CBS This Morning” signified a commitment to serious news, which has been a major factor in the program’s ratings growth in recent years.

Do I really have to trot out an extensive list of conservatives over the years that have been found to be perverts and betas? What a ridiculous statement

you can start with the majority of the male staff at Fox News and work back from there

I doubt that either party has the preponderance of offenders

Seems like the only common denominators are being in a position of power, having a penis and having no shame or common sense

I used to think that all things were equal when it came to misconduct, violence, etc.  Not anymore.  There is just too much evidence of liberals breaking the law, harassing and intimidating people with opposing viewpoints, vandalism, and overall fascism.  Yes conservatives break the law.  But there isn't really much of a comparison when you start looking at the number of Democrat governors, senators, Congressman, mayors, etc. who have broken the law.

Interesting belief. I just recall several famous preachers, many conservative politicians who are the cornerstone, the ones who think we all should be like them, that get caught in the very things they rally against... I'd like to see an accurate comparison if one existed, as memory isn't all that accurate. Until then, I am comfortable with the position they're all pretty much the same.. both sides

Your memory is accurate.  There have been a number of famous preachers who have been caught screwing around.  That's a different category.  We're talking about politicians.  I've been updating a thread for about the past ten years.  It only has Democrats, and I'm not saying Republicans don't break the law.  They do.  I'm talking about comparisons.  It's really not close like I once thought.

Look at the number of governors, senators, Congressman, mayors, and state reps.  It's really not close.  http://www.getbig.com/boards/index.php?topic=165554.0

and also people in the media/entertainment (Franken was not a politician at the time of the first incident and the second one is pretty fucking tame)

I'm also not aware of any network similar to Fox News that apparently had a pervasive culture of sexual harassment starting with the CEO and right on down through their top star and top management.  There is nothing similar in left wing media

‘CBS This Morning’ is ‘begging’ Oprah to fill in for Charlie Rose

“CBS This Morning” wants Oprah Winfrey to save the day and fill in for Charlie Rose after he was axed due to a shocking sexual-harassment scandal, sources exclusively tell Page Six.

“They are begging Oprah to fill in,” said a TV insider. “Not full time . . . But they are hoping she’ll do one day, two days, one hour, fill in till Christmas. Anything.”

Reports have said a rotating cast of CBS News talent will step in. But the network’s not exactly known for its deep bench of stars compared to rivals NBC and ABC. Suggested Rose replacements on Twitter have so far included Tony Dokoupil and Bianna Golodryga. Little-known Jeff Glor was just tapped to take over “CBS Evening News.”

Winfrey joined CBS’s “60 Minutes” in September, and she is best friends with “CBS This Morning” co-host Gayle King. An insider said of the strategy to land Winfrey: “Unless you get a superstar [on the show], it’s always going to be, ‘Charlie’s missing.’”

Norah O’Donnell, Charlie Rose and Gayle King on “CBS This Morning.”John Paul Filo/CBS
King mentioned Winfrey on the show on Tuesday, saying of Rose: “I really am still reeling. I got an hour and 42 minutes of sleep last night. Both my son and my daughter called me. Oprah called me and said, ‘Are you OK?’ I am not OK.”

A CBS rep declined to comment, and King did not get back to us. A rep for Winfrey said Tuesday that the star has not been officially asked to be on the show as of Tuesday.

CBS wooed Winfrey five years before she recently agreed to join “60 Minutes.”

Meanwhile, perhaps kicking himself with Rose’s departure is Josh Elliott — the former “Good Morning America” host who might have been Rose’s heir apparent, but bizarrely flamed out at CBS earlier this year.

Meanwhile, without Rose, King hosts “CBS This Morning” with Norah O’Donnell, and female anchor duos are having a moment on morning TV. Lori Stokes was named co-host of Fox 5’s “Good Day New York” with Rosanna Scotto after Greg Kelly exited in September, and NBC’s “Today With Kathie Lee and Hoda” has been on a ratings roll.

I doubt it. But based on the criteria of being convicted of a crime... that list has it at Democrats 44, Republicans 49 which supports my position that both sides are just as bad. I would posit that it pretty much is the same down the line on scandals and ethics violations. I went back to 1953, Feel free to "feel" liberals are worse, but lets not pretend it is based on evidence

You haven't read through the thread, so you don't have an informed opinion.  I could easily come up with a list that includes all sorts of "Republicans" and "Democrats" and make it look any way I want.  What I cannot do is invent the fact that governors, mayors, senators, congressman, and other high ranking officials breaking the law have been disproportionately Democrats.

You didn't even read the link you posted.  It cherry picks all sorts of people.  And it's limited to "federal politicians," overlooking the numerous governors, mayors, and state legislators and officials who have broken the law, or just been dirtbags.  And not all of them are "politicians."  Reminds me of that ridiculous list people like to post of Republicans who committed sex related crimes, which includes all sorts of people working in positions like county treasurer for Podunk, USA.

Don't talk to me about evidence until you've actually gone through my thread and come up with something better than that wiki link that you didn't even read.  I've been following this stuff for years.

So your list is only those politicians who broke the law? Is it accused of breaking the law or is it convicted of breaking the law? Does it contain alleged scandals?

I will respectfully call that BS.  It's not personal bias.  I provide, as Paul Harvey would say, the rest of the story.  If you look at the MSM (not including Fox News), you'd think there is this plethora of dirty Republicans and that Democrats are paragons of virtue.  That's not true.  I've shown this with issues like hate speech, violence/fascism, censorship, etc.  It's not "equal."

But you probably don't even think there is a pervasive liberal bias in the MSM.  That's why you can latch on to a list you didn't even read.  That's confirmation bias.

After studying more than 60 scandals over the past 20 years involving all politicians or major candidates for city mayor and above—many involved crimes, others just allegations, but all wound up as tabloid fodder—some conclusions can be reached.
• The number of sex scandals has increased dramatically over the past few decades, thanks to technology, new press standards, and a post-Clinton belief that everything is fair game.

• Republicans have more scandals (34 to 29), but Democrats have bigger ones, based on our methodology (13 out of the top 20).
• Democrats tend to have more problems with harassment, staffers, and underage girls; Republicans tend to have more problems with prostitutes, hypocrisy, and underage boys.
To offer some clarity, we’ve broken the scandals into categories, and graded them Cook Report-style. We also ranked all sex scandals overall, using a methodology that accounted for whether a crime was committed, versus inappropriate behavior; whether the charges were proven, versus alleged; the level of office held; and whether the incident involved children, staff, a cover-up or hypocrisy.

another source.. Sex scandals.. lets count em up

1980–1989[edit]
Donald "Buz" Lukens Representative (R-OH) Convicted of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor for having sex with a 16 yr old girl. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and fined $500. (1989)[45]
Robert Bauman, Representative (R-MD), was charged with attempting to solicit sex from a 16-year-old male prostitute.[46] Upon completing an alcoholism rehabilitation program, the charges were dropped. Bauman apologized to voters for his indiscretions but was defeated for re-election.[47] (1980)
Jon Hinson, Representative (R-MS), resigned after being charged with attempted sodomy for performing oral sex on a male employee of the Library of Congress.[48] (1981)
Thomas Evans, Representative (R-DE), went golfing in Florida with nude model and lobbyist Paula Parkinson, who later suggested her lobbying techniques had been "unusually tactile".[49] Though Evans apologized for any appearance of impropriety, he was voted out of office in 1982. Future Vice-President Dan Quayle and Congressman Tom Railsback went on the golf trip too but were not implicated in the sex.[50] Marilyn Quayle said it was common knowledge that her husband would "rather play golf than have sex any day."[51] (1981)
John Schmitz, Representative (R-CA), leader of the ultra-conservative John Birch Society,[52] admitted to having a second family, but refused to accept or support the two children he produced who became wards of the state. (1982)[53]
Dan Crane, Representative, (R-IL), was censured July 20, 1983, in the Congressional Page sex scandal for having sex with a young congressional page. (1983)[54]
Gerry Studds, Representative (D-MA), was censured July 20, 1983, in the Congressional Page sex scandal for having sex with a young congressional staffer. (1983)[54]
Gary Hart, Senator (D-CO): while seeking the Democratic nomination for president, Hart was photographed with model Donna Rice on a boat named 'Monkey Business' during a trip to the Bahamas. His popularity plummeted and he soon dropped out. (1987)[55]
Ernie Konnyu, Representative (R-CA), Konnyu was accused of sexual harassment. He had asked a female aide to move a name tag she was wearing because it was drawing attention to her breasts, about which he later said: "She is not exactly heavily stacked, OK?" In another instance, he reportedly touched the knee of lobbyist Polly Minor during lunch, which caused a scene. GOP leaders were unhappy with Konnyu's temperament anyway, so they found Stanford professor Tom Campbell who ousted Konnyu the following June.[56][57] (1987)
Jim Bates, Representative (D-CA), made sexual advances toward female staffers.[58] (1988)
Edward Kennedy, Senator (D-MA), was often portrayed scandalously in gossip columns and tabloids, owing to numerous and barely concealed extramarital affairs plus notorious public incidents, including public sex in 1985 and 1987 at La Brasserie restaurant in Washington D.C.[59] (1980s)
Barney Frank, Representative (D-MA), was reprimanded by the House for fixing 33 parking tickets for Steve Gobie, a male escort who lived with Frank and claimed to have conducted an escort service from Frank's apartment without his knowledge. (1989)[60]
Gus Savage, Representative (D-IL), was accused of trying to force himself on a female Peace Corps worker while in Zaire.[61] No action was taken by the House Ethics Committee after he apologized to her. (1989)[62]
1990–1999[edit]
Arlan Stangeland (R-MN) U.S. House of Representatives (1977 – 1991). He lost his campaign for re-election in 1990, largely because of a scandal, having made several hundred long-distance phone calls on his House credit card to a female lobbyist from Virginia. He admitted that he had made the calls, but denied having a romantic relationship with the woman. After his loss he subsequently retired from politics.(1990)[63][64]
Donald "Buz" Lukens Representative (R-OH), resigned before facing an investigation that he fondled a female Washington elevator operator.[65] (1990)
Austin J. Murphy, Representative (D-PA), acknowledged fathering a child out of wedlock after a political opponent came forward with video of Murphy leaving the home of his mistress.[66] (1990)
Charles S. Robb Senator (D-VA) while married to Lynda Bird Johnson, Robb acknowledged drinking champagne and having a nude massage with Miss Virginia Tai Collins denying an affair, though he admitted an "indiscreet friendship." Collins claimed it was an 18-month affair. Soon after, Collins appeared nude in Playboy.[67] (1991)
Brock Adams, Senator (D-WA), was accused by eight women of committing various acts of sexual misconduct, ranging from sexual harassment to rape.[68] Adams denied the accusations, there was no criminal prosecution, and he did not run for re-election.[69] (1992)
Robert Packwood, Senator (R-OR), resigned his office after 29 women came forward with claims of sexual harassment, abuse, and assaults. His denials of any wrongdoing were eventually contradicted by his own diaries boasting of his sexual conquests. (1995)[70]
Ken Calvert, Representative (R-CA), was involved with a prostitute, but claimed that no money was involved, and he was not arrested.[71] Calvert apologized: "My conduct that evening was inappropriate....it violated the values of the person I strive to be."[71] (1993)
Helen Chenoweth-Hage, Representative (R-ID), called for the resignation of Bill Clinton, and then admitted in 1998 to having had a six-year affair with a married rancher before she entered government.[72] Chenoweth said: "Fourteen years ago, when I was a private citizen and a single woman, I was involved in a relationship that I came to regret, that I'm not proud of....I only wish I could have learned the lessons sooner."[73] (1998)
Bob Barr, Representative (R-GA), had an affair while married to his second wife. Barr was the first lawmaker in either chamber to call for Clinton's resignation due to the Lewinsky scandal. Barr lost a primary challenge less than three years after the impeachment proceedings. (1999)[74]
Dan Burton, Representative (R-IN): In 1995 speaking of the then-recent affairs of Republican Robert Packwood and the unfolding affair of Democrat Bill Clinton Burton stated "No one, regardless of what party they serve, no one, regardless of what branch of government they serve, should be allowed to get away with these alleged sexual improprieties...." I haven't gone through either list other than a cursory glance. I'd be willing to bet both sides numbers are ridiculous and an embarrassment, and that if one party as a few more than the other, it's irrelevant. If one has an overwhelming number, lets talk about it.

Then lets stick with the conviction list, it is more accurate as "alleged criminals and dirtbags" can be pretty subjective.

Bruh.  All you did was post an enormous quote from a link you still haven't read (by your own admission).  It's not a "conviction list."  Like this one:

"Herman Cain (R) 2012 Republican presidential candidate, was accused of sexual harassment by several women. These accusations eventually caused him to suspend his run for the presidential nomination (2012)[141][142] including Sharon Bialek, Karen Kraushaar, and having a 13-year affair with Ginger White."

But whatever.  If you ever want to have a meaningful discussion, you should put aside your confirmation bias, look at alternative sources, and THEN we can talk.   :)

Which do you want? I posted a Conviction ONLY list and you said that wasn't good enough. So I posted a Sex scandal list and a scandal list in general. If you want to stick to conviction only, I'm good with that but the Republican conviction rate is higher.. not much higher and I will even say it is such a small difference it says nothing about who is the worst party... my position is and has always been they are equally bad even though republicans have more convictions. You tell me the criteria you want to use.. we'll go from there

I personally am not looking at this conversation as adversarial, I'm really curious as to if one party is truly worse than the other when it comes to corruption, law breaking and scandals. Your self made list is one source, other sources seem to indicate they are about equal.

As I mentioned, people convicted of crimes, people accused of misconduct, and overall dirtbags at the federal and state level.  I'm talking about presidents, members of Congress, governors, mayors, and high ranking state officials. It's sort of hair splitting, because the numbers on both sides are unacceptable, but they're not equal.  Look at the number of governors who have been convicted of crimes and/or engaged in provable misconduct.  I could be wrong, but I don't think those numbers are equal.
