Thursday on his Fox News Channel show, Tucker Carlson reacted to President Donald Trump’s reported reference to “shithole countries” and the criticism the president has received in response.
Carlson defended Trump, saying the comments are something “that almost every single person in America agrees with.”
Partial transcript as follows:
Today, as you doubtless heard, during immigration talks, President Trump said something that almost every single person in America actually agrees with.
An awful lot of immigrants come to this country from places that aren’t very nice. Those places are dangerous, they’re dirty, they’re corrupt and they’re poor, and that’s the main reason those immigrants are trying to come here and you would, too, if you live there.
President Trump asked why America doesn’t receive immigrants from places you might want to visit on vacation. Why aren’t we getting more people from Norway, he said, which by almost any measure, including the UN’s measures, is the most developed and richest country in the world.
While saying this, Trump used an expletive, and that’s not surprising either since he uses them all the time and was speaking privately. And yet, for some reason, virtually, everyone in Washington, New York and LA considered this a major, major event. Why is that?
Trump has since hinted he did not use such “tough language” during his immigration reform meeting.

I believe Israel gets 3 billion in Egypt gets about 1.5. If you want to talk about cutting all foreign aid, no argument there. From my understanding they have to spend most of the money on weapons. So, it’s essentially a kickback to the big defense companies.
Israel’s GDP is 300 billion. So if you want to make the case that Israel is not a shit hole because of the US foreign aid that’s just Leftist bullshit. It’s a result of free market capitalism.

South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham called Mexico and other Latin American nations “hellholes” in a 2013 debate with the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The old comments came back to light as Graham blasted President Donald Trump after he reportedly used the term “shithole” to describe Haiti and El Salvador during a bipartisan immigration sit down Thursday. Although Trump has denied using the word, he has continued to face widespread criticism among from Democratic lawmakers and pundits quick to label the remark as “racist.”
In the 2013 debate Graham said people who are coming into the U.S. across the southern border live in “hellholes” and said the U.S. cannot accept everyone who lives in a “hellhole” as a citizen.
“The people coming across the southern border live in hellholes. They don’t like that,” Graham said. “They want to come here. Our problem is we can’t have everybody in the world who lives in a hellhole come to America.”
Graham is a longtime advocate of a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants. He was a co-sponsor of a bipartisan bill in June 2017 that would have offered a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children. “There are 11 million people coming through the southern border cause they come from countries where they can’t find work, and life is miserable.” Graham said. “So it seems to me that if you can control who gets a job you’ve gone a long way in controlling illegal immigration. The Republican senator said he spoke directly to Trump about his “shithole” comment and that everyone who attended the meeting knows how he personally feels.
“Following comments by the President, I said my piece directly to him yesterday. The President and all those attending the meeting know what I said and how I feel,” Graham said in a statement Friday.

Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul brushed off suggestions that President Trump holds a racial animus against Haitians because he once supported Paul’s trip to the Caribbean nation to do eye surgeries on poor Haitians.
Paul said on NBC’s “Meet The Press” Sunday that Trump donated money to a medical mission trip Paul took before he was president. Paul did about 200 surgeries on Haitians that allowed them to see while he was on the trip, and he said that’s evidence Trump isn’t prejudiced against the country.
“It is unfair to draw conclusions from a remark that I think wasn't constructive is the least we can say and I think it is unfair to all of a sudden, paint him, well, he's a racist, when I know for a fact he cares very deeply about the people in Haiti because he helped to finance a trip, we were able to give vision back for 200 people in Haiti,” Paul said.
The comments come days after Trump reportedly said Haiti and some African nations are “shithole countries.”
That remark has led to an onslaught of Democratic lawmakers calling Trump a racist. Paul said that’s not going to help Congress come to a deal on immigration.
“There are a lot of questions that this ultimately intersects with policy, and the only thing I regret from all of this, other than I think some people in the media have gone completely bonkers with, you know, just ad hominem on the president, I want to see an immigration compromise and you can't have an immigration compromise if everybody is out there calling the president a racist,” he said.
