Title: Cutting polo shirt sleeves
Post by: denarii on January 27, 2018, 06:29:12 AM
I have a hugoboss polo shirt and I can't wear it now as it's too tight on my left bicep. Do any if you snip the end to loosen it? Any advice?

Sergio Olivia style with a slit up all his sleeves. If you can pull it off go for it.Would say you need at least 20” arms to do it other wise just get a bigger polo, unless you are on the shorter side then say 18”.

Wouldn’t that look shit and turn a nice shirt into not much better than tattered rags?

If this man can find a shirt that fits, so can you!

If you split it and don’t stitch it will tear. Take it to a tailor. A lot of dry cleaners do alterations as well.

Sometimes this doesn't help. I have the same problem with most shirts....I get a large and it fits in the chest/shoulders but the sleeves are too damn tight. An extra large is too baggy in the body!

They're sometimes made for fat people. I have a 2XL polo and the thing looked like a trash bag with sleeves.

Try an X-large. It is easier to shorten a shirt than to mess with the sleeves. If it is too big in around your mid-section, it can also easily be taken in. You can also buy polo shirts and dress shirts made specially to fit a bodybuilders' physiques.

Here's a link to one company that makes them, https://stateandliberty.com (https://stateandliberty.com)

American Eagle flex polos are made with 4% elastane. This adds a lot of stretch. Here is a link (ignore that the model is a twink), https://www.ae.com/men-ae-active-colorblock-polo-black/web/s-prod/1165_8682_001?cm=sUS-cUSD&catId=cat3130041 (https://www.ae.com/men-ae-active-colorblock-polo-black/web/s-prod/1165_8682_001?cm=sUS-cUSD&catId=cat3130041)

Okay. Here's a Hugo Boss polo which is what he currently wears. There's not much difference between the two polos except for the pocket.

I don’t know what’s the fucking deal with clothes.  I get big shirts for a nicer fit on my shoulders and arms but then the belly area of the shirts are like a fucking balloon. Clothes made for Americans have room for the bit average fat belly.  I have to always bring in shirts and have the sides taken in so I don’t look like I’m wearing a parachute.

Then get "tailored" or "athletic" cut for button up/dress shirts. If last resort then slim cut. Which doesn't really fit a more v shape and bigger arms.

Find a tailor.

Or, if you're like Jimmy "The Iron Bull" on a budget; cut the sleeves on the inside in two strings and tie them in a knot in the armpit. No knock on Jimmy, just happen to recall watching an episode of Heavy Muscle TV years ago where did he would talk about it and I believe Jimmy showed how he would do it... And still does it to this day I guess even with whatever shirt size he's wearing now that he's dropped a bit of size since the 90s

Actually actually don't remember ever seen any of his lifts aside from a few clips of that video he made with Dave Palumbo in the 90s. I just know that when he was on that Heavy Muscle TV show on RX years ago he was hard to watch and listen to. Everything he said he had to scream. Was just exhausting to listen to

you can buy them for cheap with minor defects. Brand-attachment is laughable but I have to admit that they look really good compared to ones made by other vendors.
Also some of their shirts are great looking.

Polo shirts have a douche appeal though due to some of the styles, imprints and erroneous pricing.

Can you give me some store names that have athletic cut dress shirts? There used to be a designer name Stephen Sandler that made nice cut clothes for bodybuilders. I need to google him to see if he is still selling.
