joined a new gym and they have 130 pounders. I have always enjoyed doing incline dumbbell presses, and I was good at them. tried to get the 130s up and almost killed myself. once I got the reps started, I was fine, hitting a easy 10. but now
I had to dump them. and that got nasty, as I landed them on my knees, and then the floor. and I'm thinking, what was I thinking?????? normally I will have my training partner hand me one dumbbell, and I muscle up the other one. no more.
I'm done with anything over 100 pounds. too unsafe for a old fart like me. sucks getting old :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

need a compliment? good for you! you are very strong!

So almost every time I do presses above the head, I get a neck injury
-
bragging about sitting all day just to waste it on 10 seconds of a lift haha
-
yeah sure 130 lbs dumbells for 10 easy reps...sure
-
What's the range of motion? A lot of guys can do half reps with that weight and are delusional thinking it's a good range of motion. I give you props for getting them in position by yourself. If you're doing full reps you have a lot of pressing strength no one can deny.
-
Don’t need any complements from you mutts ::) been lifting too long, way past the showing off stage in my life. I’m just lucky I’m still above ground. ( my videos are on you tube pal, under judochoke)
Just trying to make a point. It’s very hard to get those big dumbbells in position. Not worth getting a injury.
I’m on TRT, still strong at almost 61.
-
It's always hard to get them in position alone. But I only ever use dumbbells.
-
If you cant get them into position its too heavy for you period.
Dumbells are for increased ROM, to go superheavy use barbells.

Use powerhooks to hang them off a barbell or use a chain or cable or strap to the rack. Meathead.
-
Pretty idiotic to use a weight this heavy alone and at an advanced age.
-
i bet you cant do 20 push ups

There's something to "dad strength" or "old man strength" , I'm 50 and although I gas very quickly my limit strength is such that I worry more about old joints standing up to that strength than anything else. Young guys seldom understand that theres just something about using a muscle for several more decades that results in this weird "dad strength" thing in guys that are intensely physical throughout their lives. It does tempt one to take risks.....

This. So many times i see in the gym or social media.
In my mind is not necessary to lock out.
But the bells need to touch the delts on shoulder press.

I watched Judo chokes videos. Incredibly strong in pressing with a full range of motion. One strong bastard. He uses half reps in the deadlift though. That bar needs to be on the floor.

yea me as well I don't go over 100 good reps 90 to 100 no need for more..

bar is good when your starting out but after so long training DB are better imo you can change motion and they don't ruin your shoulders..

130 for 10 on dB incline is very strong for any age.good work.prob much better off now doing 100s or less for more reps anyways.still very strong.
I’ve always said if you can’t lift them into place and put them down without dropping you have no business using them.Back when I was a strong bencher I would incline dB 150s and get them in place and put them down with no help.Same with dB militaries.i have to tell these kids to stop dropping their dumbbells all the time cause they get bent and break eventually and there is no need to drop 50lb bells or worse yet toss them like they are a beast.
DB fat superior to bb for benching and military due to deep stretch and I don’t believe in locking out till you get near the end of set and need to rest for a second or two.also being able to position your hand angle is great to avoid shoulder issues.I always would dB press with hands at an angle and never had shoulder issues no matter how heavy.

Years ago i had a 50% rotator cuff tear doing them. And it wasn't the 130 pounders.
I wasn't able to even drive my car for two weeks.

Yeah def have to be careful coming down, people bounce out of the hole without paying attention also if you arm drifts outwards it will end badly. So def have to be in control.

That sucks im 51 never had any injury like that. sore elbows now and then with a pinch shoulder pain now and then

I was doing it in a strick style, like always. Same 90lbs dumbells as always. Didn't even felt any kind of disconfort, and kept the workout going.
Some hours past, i had such pain in the shoulder, even breathing. Could barely sleep. could not sleep facing down.
Stuff like brushing my teeth with that arm, or styling my hair was a nightmare. It was like this for weeks.

65LB dumbbell in left hand

__65LB dumbbell in right hand___
= 130LB dumbbell presses

He's a strong dude but looking at his videos i would say he needs to start looking into his diet & cardio more than lifting weights like that.
-
Now them 130s will be collecting dust with out you ::)
-
Sounds like a bunch of week tiny tits making excuses,
-
Another solution would be to use weights that aren't too heavy for you.

or bring to whores to the gym with you to each hand you one or some of your boyfriend's if you can't pick up whores easy

Never give in to old age. Just modify.

I sprained my shoulder so bad I couldn't even put on a shirt by myself. Orthopedist said slap tear but it wasn't critical to the point of an operation. He said I basically sprained my shoulder just the same as you can roll your ankle. I waited weeks and when the swelling went down I found he was right.

A friend of mine is a hard core power lifter. Always putting up videos of the pure power lifting gym he works out in. Nothing but severely out of shape power lifters looking like they are a day away from having a heart attack. I know there are exceptions but the majority look terrible. I would rather lower my absolute strength to have a balance of gas in the tank.

I have learned my lesson with the heavy pressing over the years. Particularly concerning the bench press and related shoulder problems. Seems that after several years of benching in the mid 400s did some shoulder damage.
The dumbbell incline presses are working well for me and in fact target the chest better than anything else. I would never consider going too heavy on them as I feel this would negate from it's productivity. I use nothing more than 110 pound dumbbells and usually hit 5 sets with at least 8 full reps per set. This really hammers a great pump in the chest like nothing else.

I'll still go heavy (for me) on a primary movement like flat DB presses but after that it's mostly machine work now. After I blew out both shoulders a couple of years back, I went back to a more traditional bodybuilding style of training. I feel better and I'm much leaner.

I came off about a month and a half ago. Felt like my world was crashing down. In the month of January...a concussion, a broken finger and the flu and emotional as all hell. Started back on Monday and feeling like I'm getting back to normal.

I agree that weight is not to important with this exercise in fact I got much better results doing 80-100s for higher reps than 150s.Pump much better also,I’d say best chest exercise by far.

You need to quit making excuses and work up to the 150s lol going lighter ya that will work
-
:o
That's DEFINITELY not Vince Taylor...
-
Props on the power young man! :D
-
You also have to take into account people enjoy seeing people get hurt at the gym so your doing them a disservice by not doing reckless stutt. I love when people dail and fall at the gym lol all I can do to type about it brings me so much joy

This is the bad thing about TRT. Once you start, you can never go off. I'm waiting till I hit 70.
-
Judging by the way you look, you should be more concerned with cardio then lifting heavy.

I've stated as such back when he used to tell us "I'm almost 60 look how strong I am". Now he is posting the same stuff again yet stating " I'm almost 62........" or whatever the fuck. I really don't think his body image nor overall health is as much a concern of his as is his concern with getting complements about his strength from other "dudes" whether it's on this forum or his YouTube videos. He is strong in these pressing lifts I'll give him that. Yet being on TRT and or steroids just for the sake of vanity strength is a sign of someone looking for attention in the wrong direction. Especially at his age. Now if he was 100% natural and pulling of this shit I would be impressed, as it is though, not so much.
Clint Eastwood was pressing over 80 dumbbells in his 70s with zero gear in the incline press, that's impressive. Especially when you factor in his natural lean body and really long limbs. His range of motion is probably 1 and 1/2 that of Judos. Also while where into old men and feats of strength to brag about. All one really needs to do is look at Jack Lalanne, that guy was near impossible.
-
i don't need TRT and I'm 41

A huge amount of guys get an enlarged prostate or prostate cancer as they age. If you are on HRT that will be stopped by your doctor. Then after using it for say 10 years you will have you own testosterone mainly shut down. To compound that the doctor might chemically castrate you by giving a pill to turn off any testosterone production you have. I wonder how many of these champion bodybuilders who are now 60 plus have prostate problems that they don't reveal?

one shot ever 10 days is a big deal?

Back to the topic at hand.. pre- exhaust your delts or any other muscle group. Use some way to make your muscle grow without injury.
