This first picture here was a couple weeks ago when I was five weeks out from the Arnold Classic 2018. I was feeling great! Unfortunately, I came home to Santa Barbara to visit my family and I started throwing up for two days. Since I don’t normally complain my coach, Chris Aceto, recommended that I go to the hospital thinking that I may be overly dehydrated. I ended up being rushed by ambulance from one hospital to another that had better facilities to care for me. I was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Not only did I have the horrible flu going around but my hemoglobin level was at 4 (should be around 14). I lost A LOT of blood due to two ulcers bleeding into my intestine over a period of time. I was given 6 blood transfusions that brought my body back to levels where my body could reproduce enough blood on its own to normal levels. Since it is so close to the Arnold, I am disappointed that I must announce that I will not be competing in this years Arnold Classic 2018.
I am thankful that I am feeling better!! And I am thankful for all of the support from my family, friends and IFBB Pro League. I am back to training hard and pushing myself to bring my BEST to the Olympia 2018!
I will still be at the Arnold Classic 2018 to cheer on my fellow athletes and to chat with all the fans! I am looking forward to visiting with fans when I’m not on “diet brain!”

Maybe you may lose a few placings, but atleast you have the probability to make some $$$, better then wasting the entire prep for nothing. And if you place bad just blame it on the fact you were sick. Plus he's going to the Arnold anyway, mine as well get on the stage.

Why would Aceto think that vomiting was being caused by dehydration? Rather than a virus or something? Diuretic practice?
6 transfusions would be how many pints? 18 maybe? If you lose that much blood, even over time, wouldn't it make your feces noticeably very dark? Wouldn't you be feeling faint/passing out?

I had no idea that was a thing until now - thanks for posting. A couple of the papers I skimmed also mentioned that hi test levels could hinder the healing of such lesions, so that could be a double-whammy.

Really? Are you even remotely serious? EPO doesn’t cause low red blood cell counts! Why do you even remotely think pros take EPO, when there is absolutely no competitive benefit. Anyone taking it for bodybuilding is a complete fool.
The bigger issue here is does Shawn have a larger underlying issue? I hope to god this was brought on by excessive stress, the ulcers, and due to his diet. However, such situations can indicate some major problems.... like, kidney disease, blood cancers (lukemia), liver issues, etc. chronic anemia as well. I hope to god the hospital verified that his hemoglobin levels stayed stable for some time post transfusion. If they begin to lower again, then he may have a serious problem.
Having .the ulcers and internal bleeding may contribute, however, one has to ask Shawn... “man, don’t you pay attention to the color of your urine and poo?” Urine would have surely been a dark brown and poo may have been black.

How could he not know he was bleeding internally. I recently had 2 blood transfusions because of diverticulosis. I was bleeding out of my rectum pure red blood. My Hemoglobin dropped to 8 and I was given 2 IU's of blood in CCU. How could he not of noticed, he must of had blood in his stool. ::)

There's been a couple videos about EPO and bodybuilding - last one I recall was put up by that Dr Huge guy, but his channel was pulled (I think). His buddy 'Coach Trevor' was talking about it. I'll scan my history to see if I can post one up.
I have absolutely no opinion on its benefits - not even broscience - but I wondered if you really abuse the stuff and then stop suddenly, could it supress your own production? And so cause that drop in hemoglobin?
And yes, was he wiping his ass with bright red tissue or what?!?!

Recently while underging great pain, the doctor was preparing to give me a shot, but I told him that that morphine was going to have no affect and would only be wasted.
Is that possible?

I once got severely dehydrated at a dance allnighter, by the time I got home in the car (passenger) I couldnt get out because of cramp, I rolled out and crawled into the house, I was projectile vomiting for a minute or so then managed to get some fluids in.

Vomiting can cause dehydration if you're vomiting enough. I'm sure that is why Aceto recommended he go to the hospital. If he had bleeding ulcers then more than likely would have blood in his emesis, stool, or both. His hemoglobin was low because of the internal bleeding, its not that his body couldn't produce blood on its own. A hemoglobin of 4 is critically low, at the hospital patient's get transfused when they drop to 7. At that low of hemoglobin he had to feel awful, and clearly know something was not right. EPO has nothing to do with it. There is no negative feedback loop when someone uses EPO.

After reading it thoroughly and maybe understanding a small part of it, it appears that I got what was discussed.
I was also prescribed Oxycotin and another serious pain releiver which was also pretty damn in-effective.
Could it also be a reason why I don't get drunk nor stoned easily?
I'll be discussing this with my doc the next time I pay him a visit.

One other topic which may not be too inappropriate to post here ....
I have two health insurance plans.
One is with the VA which is great but it takes about six months to see my primary care doctor. Otherwise it's a 35 mile drive to get to the VA Energency Clinic where your problem does not need to be an emergency but you feel the need to see the emergency room doctor anyway.
You are always welcome no matter what the problem may be.
The second health plan is UHC (United Health Care) which is a great plan even though it's free.
Some lady signed me up in a grocery store and I honstly thought it was a fraud to get my email address.
But one day I needed to see a doctor immediately and ended up in a hospital for a couple of weeks .... all free of chage simply due to the fact that I met that ldy in the grocery store and signed a piece of (unread) paper.
So I now have two great health plans with no med expenses and I strongly advise all GetBiggers (foreign and dmestic) to sign up with a free or an affordable health plan ASAP.
I promse each of of you .... You're eventually gonna need it!
