President Trump said he likely will support a congressional effort to end the federal ban on marijuana, a major step that would reshape the pot industry and end the threat of a Justice Department crackdown.
Trump’s remarks put him sharply at odds with Atty. Gen. Jeff Sessions on the issue. The bill in question, pushed by a bipartisan coalition, would allow states to go forward with legalization unencumbered by threats of federal prosecution.
Trump made his comments to a gaggle of reporters Friday morning just before he boarded a helicopter on his way to the G-7 summit in Canada. His remarks came the day after the bipartisan group of lawmakers proposed their measure.
One of the lead sponsors is Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), who is aligned with Trump on several issues but recently has tangled with the administration over the Justice Department’s threatened crackdowns on marijuana.
“I support Sen. Gardner,” Trump said when asked about the bill. “I know exactly what he’s doing. We’re looking at it. But I probably will end up supporting that, yes.”

That would be cool

Good idea. Hope pot is decriminalized.
I won't use it but it's idiotic to waste resources trying to stop pot use.
-
Trump is on such a roll lately. Greater than Reagan at this pace.

Something that grows out of the ground, lets make it illegal. Dumb fuck Gov't.
Waste of resources and jail space locking up stoners. Do it Don, I will forever be in your debt!
Hell, bath-house Barry used to toke, probably how he met Michella-Gorilla... (Michael)

Good. I do not partake of the wacky terbacky but there is absolutely no reason it should not be decriminalized.

That would be epic.

Not a fan of smoking anything (well I used to) but the edibles are off the charts. (The grape lozenges) talk about every pain in your body gone for the night, and amazing sleep.
Big fan...

My local cops arrest 5-10 people a week for having a joint or two.
Waste of time.

fuck trump is stupid

Marijuana is very harmful.
But alcohol is a devastating drug and it's legal.
So either ban both of them or decriminalize both.
I would chose a ban on alcohol if it were my decision.

Alcohol is definitely worse but Prohibition doesn't work.
Just creates a massive criminal industry.

I don't smoke but this would be huge for The Don. He's fucking killing it.

How about let adults decide what they want to put into their bodies?
I say everything should be legal but government should give warnings on side effects.

Stoner's Wall, made out of stone?

Frankly, I'm surprised Trump would take this stance. I agree with it even though I don't partake. Tried it....didn't like it. On another note, we won't get arrested for my grandson's single plant grow operation in the backyard. ;D
-
Surely the Republican base would not be happy with this?
On that ground alone, can't see Trump actually going through with this.
-
fuck trump is stupid
Why?
Because he wants to legalize a plant?
-
Cocain comes from a plant, let’s decriminalize that too🙄 But by all means keep steroids as a schedule III drug that’s A LOT less harmless than either weed or alcohol. Fucking brilliant
-

I tend to agree. Personal responsibility. You want to pay a stranger for sex? have at it. You want to smoke meth? go for it.. but the minute you cross over into property crime or violent crime because of it.. gloves come off.
-

The government dictating what I can and can't do when it comes to me is irritating. While I wouldn't be smoking dope or snorting coke, I realize 1. we are spending billions on a war we have been losing and will continue to lose. 2. It's none of the governments business. If they are so concerned about health they would make tobacco and alcohol illegal.

Amen. The gov't makes big money taxing and regulating alcohol and tobacco, so why not other drugs? Everybody wins. Except the dope dealers.
Maybe the dope dealer lobby is what's keeping other drugs from being decriminalized, to protect their business?

Although I couldn't care less what people do behind closed doors, drugs like weed and coke (as yes, in some cases alcohol) are 1. Highly addictive and 2. They absolutely affect people around you and I'm not just speaking of family members. The last thing we need is a bunch LEGAL drug addicts running around.

Here is the more likely scenario, and I'm not saying you are flat out wrong...
The war on drugs is a multi billion dollar business. Every city and state government across the 50 states gets a huge influx of federal money put in their coffers every year to fight the good fight. No state wants to give that up, or very few, no city and no police department wants to see that money gone. My only question, and I would probably figure it out with a little effort, is why is our Federal Government willing to give up all that money to the states? If we decriminalized drugs, couldn't they keep that money in their coffers? Or is a billion here and there the cost of keeping the states in line?
-

Like cannabis, cocaine has medical applications. Opium was used medically well into the 19th century. These drugs are all plant based.

I was half-kidding about the "dope dealer lobby". If there even was such a thing, it would be hiding behind legit business interests, I guess.
But I think maybe you might have touched on the answer--maybe the Federal Gov't can use those funds as extra leverage in exerting their influence over the states?

They do it all the time. Fall in line or no money for roads and bridges.. no grants for this or that.

I still fall back on personal responsibility. Like Drunk Driving. Set up rules.. ( I think they already Exist) that focus on behavior..

He's gotta cut down on those wake and bakers to keep those jobs #s up, haha.

Because he wants to legalize a plant?
Because he was born that way.

Probably heavily tax Mexican steel, now that trump force them to tax us back. :-\

You have to be fucking retarded to have a problem with anyone over the age of 18 choosing to smoke marijuana there are so many worse things out there. I've smoked on and off for years I've never gotten in trouble high. Even when I'm stoned all the time I never miss a day of work or a work out. All my friends are the same way they smoke to relax. Conservatives like coach need to be "weeded" out to make the Republican party popular with the younger generation. They have old tired way of thinking like that retard Jeff Sessions.
You have people taking all kinds of anti depressants opiates etc. Legalizing cannabis would cut down on a lot of that. Let people self Medicate with it. It is way safer then the majority of those medications. Would you rather have someone on Xanax or a good strain of indica weed. It's seriously a no brainer. The old generation can't seem to grasp it.

People like Coach are conditioned to think the Government knows best about what's good for us. They believe that the majority of adults aren't really responsible enough to make their own choices so they are ok with a nanny state, a relatively small group of people who make rules for the rest of us to follow. But within the next 100 years I think there will be a shift, it's already starting to happen where people are tired of the government, full of people who break the very rules they make, trying to run our lives. I'm sure Coach is probably for less government in other areas, just not ready to let go of the old thinking when it comes to drugs.

That's what conservatives are suppose to want the government should stay the fuck out of our business. His argument is everyone will be a legal drug addict. Guess what everyone that wants to smoke already does lol.
Jesus sugar kills more people then weed why don't we ban sugar. The stupid shit drives me nuts.

Lol cocaine comes from a plant it takes a lab to turn into cocaine. Weed just needs to be dried. People should be able to chew on cocaine leaves if they want.

No everybody doesn't win. The dealer doesn't get taxed, so dealer is cheaper to go to. LE who deal with the problem with tell you this.
Also, the US is so doped up it's crazy. Heroin addicts everywhere, Weed-heads, crackheads, alcoholics, pillheads. And it effects the family.

We ain't talking smokes...but remember Eric Garner was selling loose cigs in front of a store.
But the legit moonshine you have to have to old school connect. Texans don't know about that, ha.

drugs are drugs. People prefer legal shit because it is non-waterdown and regulated. Weed street value is more then you pay in Denver, and the Denver legal shit is more potent. Denver is racking up billions in taxes. They win, users win, and we win because crime is down.

depends on the crime. The dealer is the cheaper route. Don't pay taxes. So the person who doesn't want to pay for the higher "quality" or doesn't have the money, will go the dealer route. Plus, the widening gap between rich and poor, means that there is growing number of people who don't have the money. Talk to LE, they will tell you what is really happening, behind the shiny new toy the politicians and purveyors of Propa. Also more women pregnant while smoking it, which results in more children being born with it in their systems. How will this affect them in the long run is anybody's guess.
There is no "we win". One should figured out by now, that the west only thinks about the short term---effects, profit, etc. And not long term. The only people who win, are the ones who pocket the money.
And remember, prescription drugs are "legal", and look what a mess that has gotten.
-
The so-called "War" on drug is an utter, abysmal failure and the statistics prove it.
"However, where long-term data is available, it does point to systematic failures in drug policies. A study published in the British Medical Journal in 2013 found that despite efforts to limit the supply of these drugs, since 1990 prices have fallen while the purity of the drugs has increased. The trends were similar in the US and in Europe. The authors’ conclusion was clear: “These findings suggest that expanding efforts at controlling the global illegal drug market through law enforcement are failing.”
"In 2011, 50.8 percent of Federal inmates are incarcerated for drug offenses. This compares to just 4.2 percent for robbery, 2.7 percent for homicide/assault/kidnapping, and 4.7 percent for sex offenses."
"In fact, since the mid-1990s, violent crimes (murder, rape and sexual assault, robbery, and assault) and burglary have steadily declined. What has skyrocketed is arrests for drug offenses."
"In the last decade, due almost solely to the surge in drug-related arrests, US prisons are massively overcrowded and underfunded. The rehabilitation aspect of incarceration is slim to nil"

This is the dumbest argument ever. To actually believe that everyone who smokes marijuana will turn into a homeless, drug addict.
You realize how many millions and millions of people, including doctors, lawyers, judges, therapists, nurses, etc., have been smoking marijuana in a responsible manner and manage to be productive citizens. I can't even begin to count how many professors I know who have been smoking marijuana for years and are extremely prolific in their field. Of course, they are not full blown users. They use when they feel the need to.
For me, I have actually never smoked marijuana in my life, not even once, or a cigarette. I think in the last 1 year, I have drank like 2-3 beers. I guess you can call me boring ha lol. But, geez, for the government to try and dictate that an adult can't smoke marijuana is very odd.
-

cocaine is basically coffee.... in fact u could do lines in the morning with ur coffee and cannabis, 4 extra pep. definitely on hangover days.

Haha, torn on this subject. On one hand it does make sense to end war on drugs as we never had a chance of winning it. Might also impact the border issues to a degree.
Then again just how much more unmotivated and over-entertained can people become without repercussions when they already don't add anything to society? Matrix pods are coming.
