Yes to all of the above. Also, (ahem)...Sabbath is heavy, but Priest is METAL!

Well I’m not a huge fan, you would have to throw Rush in there.

Van Halen with Roth was great! Never knew that about Mentzer and it just adds to his greatness as a trainer and bodybuilder!

I'm not bitter just stating facts. Have to have Satellite radio or download apps to hear anything decent. Rock as we knew it in the 60's 70's 80's 90's early 2000's does not exist anymore. I love many genre's of music. It's for the most part cookie cutter overly computerized commercial crap.

No duhh, because change is the only constant (Heraclitus). In other words, the music back then was also different from earlier music. The thing is that most people, esp the older generations can't deal with the concept of change. Gladly, there is the computerized commercial internet, so there's an answer for those who can't adapt to change.
Commercial you say? Well, most mentioned artists in this thread were 'commercial' as well since not a single one of them is unknown to any of us ;)

While I understand it is your opinion and not really backed up by any stats, I will side with the 100 million plus album sales, the fact their 1996 reunion tour broke records for that year and that they can still fill an arena if they want means they earned their stripes...

3 facts my friend,
1. 'Best' is very subjective (some folks call Chillep Heath the 'best' bodybuilder).
2. TB was NEVER a rock band, they were a pop band.
3. If your mom didn't had a kitchen, then you wouldn't be there.
Thank you

I suspect the Who is much like Zeppelin and even the Stones, People can righty assume they are already included when it comes to discussing great bands.

Can't really endorse anything after Animalize, probably ('84), but Alive is fantastic. Probably the best live rock record I own. Alive II's pretty damn good, too, as well as the studio stuff leading up.
Wheels came off in the 80s, trying to compete with the younger hair bands and such. Some truly embarrassing stuff, no way around it. Churning out garbage ever since.

Am I just weird? I love their '80s stuff with Vinnie Vincent (and later on, Bruce Kulick), from 1982's Creatures of the Night to 1992's Revenge. It seemed more musically sophisticated, kind of like Sabbath with Dio vs. Sabbath with Ozzy.

Am I the only KISS fan who loved "The Elder?"
I have a friend from back in high school who may be the ultimate KISS fan. He and his wife go on the KISS Kruise every year and he's on a first-name basis with all the guys in the band. He also claims his fave KISS album is The Elder. But I kind of wonder if he just says that to prove to the world how hardcore of a fan he is.

Based on that I watched this 6/10 documentary - well it is taped from VH1!, but good enough for someone like me who knew/knows nothing about them...
Spoiler: the album wasn't exactly 'live'...

No way, but Kiss fans are an odd bunch.
True test is where you stand on buffoonery like "I Just Wanna" and "Uh! All Night," which are empirically demonstrable dogshit. There was a study.

I kind of got Zeppelin'ed out as a teen. They're great of course, but for me at least they're played out.
My wife and I caught the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan a couple of Sundays ago. The Doobies' vocal harmonies and musicianship were impeccably on-point. And Steely Dan (sans Walter Becker, RIP), of course you know their performance was as tight as should be expected.

Some of the greatest bands to ever exists are bands I rarely listen to for that reason. Great songs but I listened to them so much over the decades I end up changing the station when they come on. Much of Boston, Zep, Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Doobies , Stones, Springsteen. Sometimes it depends on the location I'm at when I hear them.

Same for pretty much all those artists.
EXCEPT a few songs I could listen to every day and never get sick of:
Allman Brothers - Midnight Rider
ZZ Top - Any of their stanky, nasty, dirty blues tunes, e.g., Blue Jean Blues, Fool For Your Stockings, Ten Foot Pole, Jesus Just Left Chicago, pretty much all their good stuff pre- and post-Eliminator. Nobody plays the blues like the Reverend Willie G.
Bad Co. - Silver, Blue and Gold
We could make a whole other thread about songs you never get sick of hearing.

It’s really hard to deny that the 70s was the best decade of music ever. You can even add a few to that list, ELO, Fleetwood Mac, Supertramp, and, IMO, the greatest progressive rock band ever: Yes.

most of pop culture peaked in the 70s. cinema, boxing, bodybuilding, humor, music, muscle cars (peaked in 60's but had a few holdovers) television was way more fun.

I won't argue 70s, just 'Not 80s':
Music: Good examples. 80s owns metal (but Master, dude, c'mon!); Appetite/BiB are both amazing, but GnR was arguably a one-record band, and the bulk of 'DC's genius was in the 70s.
Movies: More great examples. But 80s might be the worst movie decade ever - cheesy time, cheesy tastes, cheesy movies. Fun stuff, but not great cinema overall. War: Apocalypse Now ('79); Crime/Gangster: Godfathers ('72/'74), Goodfellas ('90); and T2 was 1991.
Bodybuilding: Who cares.
TV: Seinfeld is the best, no question. St. Elsewhere, Cheers, and Hill Street, too. But it was mostly goofy sitcoms. The NYPDs and ERs (both 90s) ushered in the gritty cable/Netflix stuff so commonplace now: Sopranos, The Wire, Breaking Bad, etc.

you must have a tin ear. but people said that about a lot of groups acdc songs all sound the same etc etc.. every group has a style and that accounts for a formula to follow in all subsequent music when they have success..

ok exchange t2 for terminator then, i have a hard time picking a favorite among them anyway.
nothing cheesey about the shining, empire strikes back, raging bull, elephant man, kagemusha, das boot, blade runner, first blood, king of comedy, once upon a time in america, brazil, ran, stand by me, aliens, the platoon, blue velvet, cinema paradiso, mississippi burning, and do the right thing.
throw in a couple of hundred action, comedy and horror movies - a bunch of arnold, indiana jones, die hard, eddie murphy and seagal and we got ourselves an awesome decade!!

nah i think its pretty fun and interesting to talk about different decades in culture. how things evolved, how bands came up and went away, how artists reinvented their careers, how new music styles was created, comparing old tv-series to modern tv-series (which now rivals the movie industry, movie actors going to tv where as before, actors who couldnt get movie roles where forced to do tv, how tables turned) etc etc
it sure isnt a discussiong about nothing, quite the opposite.
that is, if you have any interest in movies, music, bodybuilding, tv-series etc which i suppose, you dont. in that case it might seem like nothing.

Because discussing your personal taste is completely useless. You like this, I like that and there's no good or bad, right or wrong.
Almost every time I watch TV, I see all kinds of crap, from boring Hollywood movies to real life stuff. I don't understand why people waste their time like that, but hey, if it makes them happy, then good for them.

it's never useless to talk about your personal taste, in anything.
women, foods, cars, watches, thats what we do.
makes one wonder what the hell you're doing on here, but then im sure you dont know the answer to that question either.
that being said, it can also be objective - comparing the film making of 70s to the 80s is a legit thing and so is comparing bodybuilders from 70s to 80s.

makes one wonder what the hell you're doing on here, but then im sure you dont know the answer to that question either.
that being said, it can also be objective - comparing the film making of 70s to the 80s is a legit thing and so is comparing bodybuilders from 70s to 80s.
Then pay more attention to my first posting in this thread.
There's nothing 'objective' about comparing personal taste with personal taste. Like multiple times before, you have no clue about certain basic concepts.

didnt say it were.
i said we do both.
the problem is that youre an idiot. and youre an idiot with a lot of time on your hands and very little going on. you just have to go into every thread and post some shit for no reason (like you did in this one)
i told you, its not a waste of time to discuss personal taste. we (that is most of us) do it ALL THE TIME. so apparantely it's not a waste of time - FOR US.
and then i said - it doenst have to be just personal - it can be objective - comparing the film making of different decades can, for instance, be a study in different methods, technical improvements etc etc
how can you not understand this? why are you so stupid? why do i need to point this out? imagine sitting with a bunch of friends in a bar and saying "wow that girl got a great ass!" and then you would respond "thats your personal opinion! thats not worth talking about!"
youre just one stupid, weird dude.
just a really really little weird stupid person.

if you had an interest you would participate in the conversation, rather than commenting on it as being about nothing.
to claim that tv is pretty much dead is a really clueless.
TV now is better than ever, better than big screen times infinity.
