Title: Propecia/hair loss anyone have experience
Post by: drockland on January 27, 2019, 10:43:53 AM
Was taking propecia for two months and while I stopped shedding for the first time in my life I experienced lower sex drive, shitty erections, lack of morning wood, and some slight depression. Immediately got off and got prescribed a topical propecia/mindoxi combo from a compounding pharmacy and the side effects have gone away.

Any long term propecia users? What sides do you have?

One of my friends had the exact same side-effects.  He eventually manned-up and shaved it bald and smooth.

I heard that long term use of Finasteride can permanently fuck you up for life.  FDA could've give 2 shits about safety, they approved these drugs too quickly.  It's all about money, not health and wellness.

my 2 cents

most properica side effects are mental from their users. someone on another forum have data to support this claim. ive researched some hair loss forum

also from another forum - some guys got good results at .5MG daily.

I am concerned about my hairline but I do not have mess with properica. i am still on the natural route as long as i can.

(super solid keto with lots of high fatty rich foods) salmon etc
supplement with Biotin, other items, (saw palmetto)
and use topical Rogaine 2x a day.

my hairline is pretty legit - we all know a hairline can fold fast but i am doing everything i can to prevent it - my prevent treatments (rogaine and some OTC supps) cost me pennies in the long run and gives me peace of mind.

fyi those laser combs... i have never personally tried them but i know ppl who have... and the verdict they didnt work

i have looked in, messed around with different treatments but my current treatment is the best one yet (cheap and effective) also i have good hair genetics too

Yeah, I'd stay away from pharmaceuticals if at all possible.  If I go bald I'll either shave it skin bald or get a Steven Seagal wig.

Propecia can in some cases cause irreversible impotence.

Minoxidil/Rogaine can also be systemically absorbed and cause hair growth on other parts of the body. It can also age the skin on the face and alter the pores. Some users on forums have reported negative sexual side-effects even though if applied topically it would have the opposite effect, but it works differently on the body when absorbed systemically.

Was reading propecia can cause pens fibrosis. Some damaging of the smooth muscle tissue which dht is responsible for maintaining. Then again I am on TRT so maybe I won’t have this side effect?

Considering a hair transplant eventually. But here is the catch. You need to take propecia after a hair treansplant so we are all fucked either way. We want our hair to attract women but whats the point if you can’t fuck them? :D

I guess "long term" is relative.  3, 6, 12 months?... whatever.  I would never put this crap in my body.

If the doctor who first prescribed Proscar for my prostate and told me one side would be less hair loss, yet never mentioned all the other sides you so apply described above were still practicing, I'd sue his ass.

Will meditation stop the effects of dht miniaturization of hair follicles?

i am assuming he means cut back on the stress maybe with meditation methods ... as we know stress alters hormones

"Low cortisol hair loss is intrinsically linked to adrenal fatigue. When stress is sustained, some claim that the adrenal glands can be overworked due to excess cortisol production. ... The result of this fall is that your body is unable to produce other important hormones that impact hair loss, such as testosterone"

I'm not opposed to meditation, it's very beneficial but hair loss via stress is temporary and the bald spot will regrow once the stress is managed/alleviated.

DHT sensitivity is the main issue as is western diet.

I've had 4 hair transplants. You don't need to take anything. There's only so much you can have done each time. But fuck taking drugs that fuck with your system your whole life. Do you think something that's blocking your hair loss ISN'T going to have side effects?

The hair is obviously not as thick as when you are 16 but it's fine now. Worth it.

Been taking propecia for 5 years now and I wish I had started taking it earlier.  My hairline is exactly the same as it was as when I started, and it had been receding at a slow but steady pace before using it.  Much easier than taking minoxidil--just pop a pill at night, no messy, smelly lotions.

Sex drive went down maybe 10-20%, but that might have been from getting older, hard to tell.  In any case, it's somewhat of a relief to not think about sex all the time.

Other things I've noticed: it seems to slow the formation of fine lines in the face.  I've heard other users talk about this as well, maybe something to do with DHT and collagen.

Take a look at information regarding derma rolling the scalp.  Use this in conjunction with 5% minoxidil.  Also, you can use the 5% solution at the front of the hairline were there is receding.

Hair transplant will cover balding spots. Eventually hair will keep falling off where there's not hair grafted, propecia can prevent that hair from falling off.

The minoxidil can age the skin though, apparently due to it reducing collagen, and can give dark rings or a puffy look under the eyes.

I will have to disagree..... Willis would look a lot better with gray hair than bald ,  for example ; there's no way   Michael Douglas, G. Clooney or  Richard Gere would look better bald than with gray hair ..... no way

As for toupee,  Stallone and Travolta look a lot younger and decent " with toupee on   though Travolta looks even better than Bruce Willis bald .

I can tell you what I've done to combat hair loss if anyone is interested.  Mid 30’s started thinning and caught it quickly.  Got on propecia immediately and still take it nightly for 15 yrs.  Noticed some thinning toward the back about 1.5 yrs ago and use Rogain 2X a day, as well.  Have been happy with both as I haven’t lost anymore (that’s been noticeable) and have had no side affects from either.  Still get multiple hard-ons daily (thank you Random Pics & IG).  But the winner has been a new procedure called PRP or you can do PRP w/ stem cells.  They take your blood, put it in a machine that removes platelets or something and then they add the stem cells if you purchased that package (which I did).  After about 40 or so needle injections into my scalp and 90 days later, I have much fuller and thicker hair with zero scalp showing.  Cost me @ 5 grand here in Maryland and I couldn’t be happier.  Many people mention it without knowing what I did.  Check it out - it works.

You never look young bald no matter what, grey hair or not, having a full head of hair is the fountain of youth especially if you are late 40’s, 50’s, and beyond

Some lucky, some are not

But stop kidding yourself bald looks younger even with greys

Willis never looked good this way. I don’t understand why they always put him as an example of a good looking bald guy. The Rock or Statham are better examples. You have to be jacked to some extent though. No skinny guy with a bald head looks good.

This is true.  A surgical tech here used the Rogaine from the OTC at Walgreens.  And in two weeks, he was starting to develop a raccoon look.  It's a side effect that only occurs in a select few, but he happened to be one of them.  As soon as he quit using it, it went away.

I have been using both the .05, and 1.0 needles for about a year now with great results.  Start out with the .05 for a month (once a week, and wait a couple of hours  before applying the minoxidil).  Then purchase the 1.0 roller (amazon or ebay), and use that once a month (wait 24 hrs to apply the solution).  As far as losing collagen, and having bad skin?  I use minoxidil, but also take collagen powder and use retin-A for my face and neck.  Look half my age (so I have been told).  I am 48 by the way, and no I will not post pics.

Oh he's serious. And, it is a tattoo. He's had the good fortune to capitalize on that look for several years. In fact, it is his trademark. His net worth is reputed to be $15,000,000. He can afford to have it re-inked when it fades. IMO this looks better than a toupee and it's not intended to fool anyone into thinking it's real hair, which makes it an honest fashion statement.

My experience might be just pure coincidence, but when I was around 20 I added in A-50's to my cycle for the first time.  A few weeks after doing so, I started noticing hair in the drain catcher when I'd turn off the shower.  I was freaked out.  I knew about Nizoral (sp?), but I was on my parents insurance and couldn't go to the Dr. and explain what I was doing that was causing it.  (I was young, and had no clue about HIPPA)

Anyway, there's a guy here that ran a supplement store and I mentioned it to him as his store catered to hardcore PL's and BB's.  I asked him if he knew of anything, and he told me to talk to the lady that cut my hair about a shampoo and conditioner brand called Nioxin.  I use the Level 1 version of both the shampoo and conditioner which say for "Thin to Normal Looking" on the bottles.  I started using it, and the hair in the drain stopped within a week.

They say baldness comes from your mom's side of the family, and it actually runs on both sides of mine.  One side it's the bald spot in the back, and thin up top.  The other side of the fam's males all have big-time receding hairlines.  This goes for their children (my male cousins) as well.  Like I said, maybe it's a coinky-dink.  However, I kept using the A-50 and did probably 5-7 other cycles with it on top of my Test E base, and genetics were completely not in my favor.  Yet, here I am over 20+ years later, and I am the ONLY male on both sides of the family with a full head of hair.  In fact, after a few times of one of my ex-gf's who was a hair-stylist staying over and showering before leaving in the morning came into the bedroom to get dressed, and said "I've been meaning to ask you why the hell you have Nioxin for thinning hair?  Your hair is super thick, especially for your age (38 at the time)"  I replied "that shit is the only reason you're able to say that"

Look into it.  Side bonus:  It has like eucalyptus or mint or some shit in the conditioner that feels like a mild burning sensation at first, but then turns into a tingly cool feeling on your scalp.  Every girl that has stayed the night, and used it absolutely loves it.

The only other thing I do, is since I'm on TRT, old, and am genetically pre-disposed I take 160-320mg of Saw Palmetto soft gels to block DHT conversion, and .5mgs daily of Anastrozole to block estrogen conversion which can both be culprits in hairloss.  I didn't S.P. or Arimidex until TRT though so I'm confident the Nioxin on it's own worked for me, but rather be safe than bald.

If you try it, let me know what you think.

I've been using Alpecin shampoo, leave it on for 2 minutes in the shower and it helps increase blood circulation to the scalp. Been using it for about a year and very happy with the results. Used to use Nizoral and Minoxidil as well but stopped, this seems to be working well for me.

I tried Saw Palmetto a few years back, but I noticed some negative side-effects such as crashed libido so stopped it.
