From his FB Page

Good morning all.

It is with a heavy heart that I announce my friend, IFBB Pro David Dearth, passed away Monday night Aug 5th after suffering a heart attack while in the hospital.

David was a larger than life character who lived his live to the fullest each and every day of his life, with very few regrets. Rather than mourn his passing, I'm quite sure David would want you to celebrate his life, like he celebrated every day of his life.

David loved his family very much, and I'm sure his loss is a big one for them, so please keep them in your thoughts as they move forward. To his girlfriend Maureen, I know through many talks that David loved you very much, and couldn't stop talking about how much you have done for him these past couple of years.

To David, Aaron, and Andrew his sons, Dave was so very proud of all of you, and talked about you every time I was able to talk with him.

Arrangements for David will be posted soon by his family.

Rest in Peace my friend... I'll miss our late night talks and all the advice you gave me when we met back in 1992.

God bless

Very sad.

Guy pushed fate, though. Steroids, recs, etc. ... In the nineties (when him and Aaron Baker were the dynamic duo) he’d achieve crazy conditioning and the word was he’d use various recreational street drugs to assist.

But I fully admit I have zero knowledge of exactly what he was doing/has done.

I never met David but have seen him in person. Almost attended a wedding along with him.

He died too young.

RIP David.

No confirmation on whether it was a heart attack or Septic from the infection. It was infected.

Shawn Ray - He passed away on the porch at his girlfriend's house.

Dave Liberman  - Yes. He passed away Monday night after bicep surgery

‎Pamela Kester Pullins‎ - So shocked, but as I reflect on David Dearth passing, I cannot help but think about the amazing party that must be occurring on the other side of the veil. So much heartache left behind for his amazing family and friends, but total rejoicing by sweet Devin Dearth.

Jeff Petee - David had a staff infection a few years back from knee surgery. As a result, his heart was weakened, and when his bicep got infected, his heart wasnt strong enough to handle it..

Please lift their family in prayer and positives as they work through this very sad loss. My deepest and most sincerest condolences to all who are grieving.

Eddie Robinson - Sorry to hear the Bad news! R.I.P brother... stopped by your page to read you last words got the news early Tuesday morning of your passing.
Gods Blessing my friend we had a lot of fun times during our career. Till we meet again brother. R.I.P love ya ER

Darius Barazandeh - Bless you David Dearth I watched your journey's and your ups and downs. I know you were dreading that surgery. Rest in peace brother and now your are connected to infinite source.... the real truth about what you always have been you now know. No more limitations for you...just infinite love and light. Rest in peace and thrive reconected to source energy.

Perdiansyah Putra - You are the humble person on Facebook and real life. We love u, that so heart break you are go early. But we know u are in your better place. Your legacy and your briliant kharismatic will live on. Send love and prayer for you and your family.

His was worried about this surgery because of his addiction to pain meds. The way he dealt with his addiction was to stay active so this surgery had him worried.

He seemed like a genuinely decent guy who battled and struggled and overcame addiction problems in his past as well as severe depression.

The last few years have been hard on him with all the surgeries and mishaps he went thru...rip.

Even if it was a heroin overdose, it was most likely only due to underlying genetic factors, and would not have happened if not for those factors.

Stay tuned to Dave Palumbo's upcoming show on it to explain the factors.

You ever notice when you’re struggling and one bad day runs into the next. Before you even realize it you’re in the middle of a mini depression. Depressions are usually made up from a lot of little things added up. I’ve struggled with some serious depression in my life. There have been a couple times where it’s been so overwhelming I felt the only way to end the pain and sadness was to end my life. That’s a terrible and lonely place to be. I have to actually look for and sometimes chase after joy and peace. I’ve learned that’s exactly what I need to do every day. The world doesn’t owe me shit. I’ve gotta go and get it. Funny thing I’ve learned is that when I’m chasing my daily joy I’m in a state of mind where I’m looking for reasons to smile and be happy. When I’m focused on that it doesn’t leave much energy to give to negative thoughts or people. If you’re struggling with depression right now I’m sorry. I feel your pain and really do understand. It sounds kind of silly but these days I can find joy all day long in the little things. I remember it was the accumulation of negative little things that got me depressed. Goes to reason the accumulation of a lot of little good things will bring me joy. I live each day like it could be my last. I sing like a fool to every song in my truck, I play and love on my horses and dogs all day. I smile at strangers and take the time to truly listen when someone trust me enough to share their sorrows with me. I honestly don’t have the resources to help people like I want to but I do have a heart that loves you and wants to see my friends smile.
I hope each one of you have a great week. It’s not easy being happy these days but we are hard workers here. No fear of the daily grind ❤️❤️❤️

Listen here, Bevo, it's okay to make fun of disabled people, laugh about people's death, and call for the murder of different ethnic groups.

However, it is wildly inappropriate to speculate that a bodybuilder may have died of a drug overdose.

Please adjust your moral compass!!

With all due respect to Dave, it's unlikely he was ever clean, maybe off street drugs but medicated most likely. Not that long ago he said on IG that he was on 7mg of Xanax. You don't just stop that kind of habit after decades of use. He smoked too, not that weed is dangerous like that. His death may not be due to drugs per se, I don't know, but as was mentioned, just a few days ago he said he dreaded the surgery due to his painkiller addiction.

He had so many health problems that it was impressive he held on this long.

Sad nonetheless. RIP.

Dave was very cool. Sad to see him go. Also in the the atmosphere of getbig I do find it hypocritical that people are offended at members speculating and joking because in this case some of us really liked Dave and feel for him. But members joke about stuff like this all over getbig.  If they offend you I say just ignore them. Like the final scene in Chinatown.

Forget it Jake! It’s getbig.

Upper extremity surgical/post surgical deep vein thrombosis risk is extremely low. He mentions having abbesses development in the surgical area which is a localized infection. That's typically treated with an antibiotic and wound debridement.  If he had developed sepsis he would have been hospitalized on IV antibiotics.

Because he had previous heart surgery and other comorbidities there should have been preemptive steps taken to avoid clotting. Not sure what happened.

One thing often leads to another.

Bodybuilding leads to drug use leads to buying illegal drugs leads to needing money to buy drugs leads to drug addiction leads to performing sex acts for  money in Santa Monica leads to diseases leads to more drug use leads to depression leads to more drug use leads to more unsavory behaviors leads to physical and mental problems leads to early death.

Stay away from the drugs, folks.  Train for health not death.

Audience was laughing here because right before Dearth went on, Lee Haney who was co MC gave a rant that bodybuilders should stop coming out to "twinkle toe music." Haney got on the mic and said, "Enough of this twinkle toe music. If you have muscle, you should use MUSCLE MUSIC". Right before Dearth came out to this. And Dearth just laughed with him, turning what would have been embarrassing, into just having fun and ended up getting a huge ovation for just being relaxed about it and laughing with them.  Straight up guy. RIP. Someone find the original clip of Haney putting foot in his mouth before this posing. Classic Olympia moment.

Stay away from the drugs, folks.  Train for health not death.

Look he was a great bodybuilder irrespective of what he did in his extracurricular life. He ended having few true friends and died in the hands of dangerous doctors. Too bad he did not have a friend in the medical profession to offer medical advice. DOC

He received lots of medical advice. But he stubbornly refused to take it.

Unfortunately addiction issues can blow right over top doctors and best medical care, although who knows whether the addictions were direct cause of early death.

No question is harmless. No answer is without consequence.

Last time I saw him was at the '02? MrO, in the expo. I thought MY "bodybuilder-trackmarks" (same thing Tom prince had. The vein the goes down the bicep is where most bbers inject IV drugs and it turns BIG and purple, & David was making no attempt at hiding them with high/tight shirtsleeves and big, purple tracks running all the way down that bicep vein and both the "Y" veins in the crook of the elbow. At that time Nubain was still sorts around but I'd introduced "Turbogesic", which was a veterinarian painkiller just like(well, sorts, they were both opiate agonist/antagonists) nubain. No telling what he was putting in there but he did have a big coke problem back in the day (like Tom prince as well).

Goes to show, you gotta know when to call it quits.

Your analogy relates to those how would go down that route anyway
Regardless of Bodybuilding or Bodybuilding Drugs.
They would’ve found another endeavour or path to lead them
To such a Bad Place.

As countless Millions have without ever having used any type of Bodybuilding
Drugs.

I cannot take seriously ANY man who does recreational drugs.

Doctor, cop, lawyer, MMA champion ... don't matter.

Doing rec drugs deprives you of a right to be treated like a man.

Yes but if you are already open to using and cycling lots of gear, you are also most likely open to using rec, pain killers, etc... goes hand in hand

No idea, but I doubt it.

Bbers doing g4p is more of a fantasy of "fans" who want something like that to be true.

Most drug using bodybuilders sell drugs to support their addiction.

If you're not gay, wtf would you ever get hard around a dude? Makes zero sense.

Doctors. cops, lawyers and MMA champions don't need to exercise their right for respect, they've taken it with their hard work and dedication. So while they might enjoy smoking a joint on a Sunday night, their only night off, and enjoy the view of the beautiful home they worked so hard to pay off, there are PLENTY of lazy slobs that never achieved 10% of their potential, still live at home and have never touched a recreational drug. You seriously respect them more?

I don’t know who you know or how the scene is compared to modern bbing but I personally know 5 physique guys who dabble in X and coke

That’s not even mentioning various pros like Jeremy buendia who is known for coke use, and other drugs as well

Also not including the 90’s Venice scene of Cormier and others

Again, never said everyone uses, but you can def see how it goes hand in hand in many situations

I should mention, when I saw him at the olympin expo, withboth bicep veins huge and purple, and thee "Y" veins big & purple...  "Track-marks" etc... It's not something rare in our ,",sport,". "Bodybuilding" fills a ,,"hole in our heart",& some of us are genetically predisposed to using drugs .... Opiates... Make Coke...to notice drugs also fill that hole.

For people dependant (or addicted... There's a difference), on drugs/opiates, drugs aren't the problem.

For them drugs are The only solution.

The "problem" is within them and the hard part is fjxxing that problem w/o drugs... But first you gotta get off the drugs and go through withdrawal. Which sucks. Really, really sucks.

I just copy pasted a post from a different thread and replaced the word "gay" by "drug user".

Ahhh - That Some / Many do or will use rec drugs as well as Bodybuilding drugs
I’d definitely agree - Where I disagree is That Bodybuilding Drugs are a gateway drug
To others.

As I stated those that use / mix drugs would very likely do so anyway
Regardless of being Bodybuilders.

It’s a bit like the Ric Drasin Queer Porn Business
He & Ken were Shit stabbing Queers they would’ve been Shit Stabbing Queers
Wether or Not They were Bodybuilders - That’s just how they were.
Bodybuilding wasn’t a Gateway to them Becoming Shit Stabbers.
