By Justin Carissimo
August 28, 2019 / 7:18 PM / CBS News
Racer and TV personality Jessi Combs, who was called the "fastest woman on four wheels," died in Oregon attempting to break her land speed record, authorities announced Wednesday. She was 39.
Emergency workers responded to a call in the Alvord Desert at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, about 90 miles south of the city of Burns. The caller reported that a jet-powered car had crashed.
Deputies from the Harney County Sheriff's Office identified the driver as Combs. She was pronounced dead at the scene. It's unclear what led to the crash, which is under investigation.

I remember her from Mythbusters, I think, and some other car show. PIP

This is the 52,000 horsepower jet-powered car she was driving when she died.

Wow. RIP.
-
And to think I just watched the 1977 movie "Viva Knievel".
Primemuscle lives in Oregon. Perhaps this woman was a state treasure, and he knows her.

Doubt it
He’s too busy stalking go4it
-
It’s the way she goes.
At least she died doing something she (presumably) loved.
I’m sure the end happened quickly.
Sad. A fine white woman like that.
-
Fuck her. Good riddance.
-
Should’ve stayed in the kitchen
-
What's the point? Gunness Book? I'd use Tesla's autopilot and call it day. Life isn't a movie. You can't come back from this, and there is no evidence you will be reborn.
-
Elliot's ghost taking revenge on all strong females.

This.
Each to their own but never understood why anyone would risk their life for things so meaningless.
-
My wife drives faster than that on the freeway.
-
How you like to be the clean-up detail on that one?
-
Fuck her. Good riddance.
Hahahhaha
-
that's a very high speed for someone moving in a kitchen.
-
If she had been knocked up by Vince Gudrum at 18 and lived in a trailer since, she would still be here.
-
Should have let her husband drive
-
This is awful for her family. I seriously doubt anyone that is killed doing something they enjoy wants to have anyone say "at least they died doing something they 'loved'." I'm relatively certain that she didn't. But I also understand the background of such a statement. It's not meant to be sarcastic, but again. No one wants to die doing something so banal as this. Or fishing. Or riding a motorcycle, Or rafting...
Or if your Venom Vince, kielbasa-ing a fat old white dude you met at the Piggly-Wiggly.
-
I'm confused....was there a kitchen in the jet car?
Bench
-
I don't get it risk your life to save another I get but at 39 years old for what remember this guy.
Felix Baumgartner in the record books. Baumgartner became the first person to break the sound barrier in free fall. His dive was from an altitude of 127,852 feet, which at the time also set a new record for highest free-fall parachute jump ...
Most don't remember him that's my point

Exactly.

Would hit

You have to use a mop and a sponge. Rest in peace race car driver.

His record was actually broken, by who I’m not sure. The reason I remember him is because I watched it on Discovery Channel live. It was pretty cool.

The responses here are hilarious.

Elliot's ghost taking revenge on all strong females.
One of the many side effects of the creatine....
-
Trying to go 500mph in a car is EXACTLY like high level bodybuilding. The two endeavors are almost identical.
-Absurdity for the point of absurdity.
-Risk your life.
-An 19" arm is awesome, let's make it 20". Good idea! 400 mph is fast. Let's go 500 mph! Good idea.
-Spend money needlessly.
-Very little money for chasing the dream.
-Gives you bragging rights in an empty room.
-Makes for a cool 30 second video clip.
-Even if successful nobody knows your name.
That said, she died a fine death. An honorable death. Sure she's still very dead and her family and friends will weep, but it was her life, not theirs.
I salute you "Go Fast Girl." HPIP. Horsepower in peace.
"Go with throttles at full military power."
"Copy that... full military power"

Yep
“She died doing what she loved”
“She’s in a better place now”
::)
How about NO, she’s dead, end of story
-
Stupid thing to die for

that's not a car
-
Not anymore it's not.
-
I’m guessing she was trying to reverse park at the time.
-
Would hit
At this point it would be more of a smear than a hit.
-
going into a car and trying to do 5 seconds in the quarter mile,,,, now dat to me is crazy.
-
that's not a car
Exactly what I thought. It’s a plane without wings. I wonder what the actual top speed is for a car with an internal combustion engine?
I’m surprised there’s no videos of the accident out yet.
-
never heard of her and she is probably the only person in the world that cared about that record

LOL! Excellent. A lesser remembered Arnold quote.

A lot of bottoms in this thread. Seems like a decent way to go. Hell, she got her own thread on Getbig.

Yes sir! One hell of a way to go. And immortality here on Getbig.

Kind of sad all of the foreshadowing. Was this from last season?

thanks Tommy, you damn powerhouse. it was off the top of my head so probably not verbatim
-
Mythbusters girl huh?

I’m confused. I grew up in a family motor heads and followed (still do to a certain extent) and grew up around drag racing, motocross and desert racing. It was Gary Gabelich that set the original land speed record at Bonneville in I think 1969 or 1970 in the Blue Flame rocket car at 622mph. I also believe he died the same way she did (not at Bonneville). Why are they saying that 500mph is the worlds record?
-
waste of good pussy :'(

It would have been a record for a female driver. Gabelich died in a motorcycle crash and not while racing.

SF1900's preferred vehicle of choice when he gets a text message from Goodrum that he is home alone with scented candles lit in the bedroom.

So not a record, then.

In this sport, the undisputed World Champion and holder of the belt is retired RAF Lt. Col Andy Green. Aboard Thrust SSC (SuperSonic Car) he went 763 mph and literally broke the sound barrier. At rest and heading toward 763mph.

Why would I have known her? She probably didn't reside in Oregon. The Alvord desert, which is where she crashed is almost 300 miles away from me. There was no article in the Oregonian about this that I saw. I doubt she was considered a state treasure.

She has the world record for a woman and she wanted to beat her own record. 500 MPH was her goal.

Maybe she wanted to die because she was childless at 39...
I always feel sorry for 35+ women without children.

:having to put on 90 degrees of steering lock just stay in a straight line at 700mph: wow!

See how easy it is to get something wrong. ...500mph is the women's world record. One word completely changes the story. Have you ever wondered how often you got something wrong because you missed a minor detail?

This begs the question(s), is there a midget land speed record? How about a black land speed record? Native American land speed record? Homosexual land speed record? Black, gay, midgie, translesbohomolibcuck land speed record?
The possibilities for fairness and inclusivity are endless!
Everyone deserves a record except Conservative, white, heterosexual men. Divershitty is our strength.
Fuck that noise.

Yes sir! Love that video. Awesome stuff.
Full right lock at SEVEN HUNDRED MILES PER HOUR! Not 350 mph. Not 500 mph but 700 MPH!
I would have punched the chutes at 350 mph and called it a day.
Lt. Col Green: "Indicated speed 500 mph and freshening."

A woman without children is useless to society. They know that and that’s why most of them have serious mental issues later in their life.

Girls attractivness peaks at 21. Those who spend those years partying and riding the CC are in a very desperate situation when they hit their 30's and decide to 'settle down''.
