Yep - and I had to work up to it at first because it felt so hard! Very little carryover between doing 6 rep sets to 20 reps sets. I was doing sets of 315 for 6 at the time and figured I could easily bang out 20 at 225. Umm - nope, lol

I have for fun we sometimes do shit like that to get up for leg day 20 not an issue but doing 315 for 10 is hard I get to 6 or 7 and that's rough weird

In my day we'd rise at 5 AM, squat 225 for 20 before breakfast, then walk 8 miles barefoot to the one-room schoolhouse in a sub-zero blizzard dressed in dungarees and a thin flannel shirt, no hat or gloves. After school it was a long walk home, then tossing hay bales on the farm until sundown. After a meal of beef from a fresh butchered cow and homegrown vegetables, we then did our homework by candlelight, writing with a piece of shale on the back of a flat shovel. Then off to bed to do it all over again the next day.

Worked up to it in a few months of doing squats at 19 when used to squat to parallel and focused on higher reps, at some point I started to squat as low as possible and pause in the hole and only ever went up to about 2 and a half plates a side for multiple sets of 5 and could never have done 20 in this manner and my cardio sucks balls now to boot I’d likely die going for 20haha

When I switched to a hack squat machine my legs started growing like crazy and my back thanked me for it!

I bet,Front Squats are always a bitch on breathing ability and just plain hard to do becasue it`s hard to get in a proper "comfortable" position to do them.

Can't remember ever trying to get that high, but some posters have mentioned front squats. One Summer I put a lot of effort into getting the technique down and could pump out quite a few @225 - best my legs ever looked and I'm certain it was those front squats...
Oh, and the Parabolan - mustn't forget that...

315 x 20... in my 20's.... 30's was 225 x whatever the day brought... 20 was the usual goal.... but what a great pump..... 50's.... none,,, resorting to the leg press... short rest between sets so i still get a good pump,,,, and don't throw on a ton of plates and regret it ::)

some years ago was managing to do 20reps at 120KG twice a week, costs in the short term but the feeling of achievement is amazing and while lifting absolutely nothing else matters or comes to mind

when I was 18 (in HS) I did 225lbs for 32 reps (record at powerhouse gym, Joliet, IL) for 200lbs and under :) had my name on the wall - proud moment for me
the book super squats (Ironmind catalogue) changed my world.

Drop set 360 6..320 6...260 6...210 7. Ended up in hospital. Exercise induced headache ::) er.....there was no headache but couldn't walk for a few days unassisted. Not sore legs just groggy. 360 for 16...goal was 20. Came out again 360 got 15. At that point sed fuck it! There ain't no 20 here! Always ass to the ground. Now? Ha..don't ask.

i can do one rep of 360 now, used to do two sets of 185kgs, 407lbs
to do 20 you need to fly through the first 10 and only start to lag at 15 or so, otherwise you just run out of oxygen in the blood and too much muscle pump

Yes - very machine dependent. I use an angled wide stance as opposed to feet together- and don't feel it at all in my knees. The moment I try something like Platz did my knees ache for days.

Not sure if I could, but it all comes down to gradually conditioning yourself. Squat isn't the exercise to decide to spontaneously challenge yourself to do way more reps than you normally do. You have to build up to it. As soon as you unrack that bar, you're on the clock - regardless of whether you go fast or slow. It's an uncomfortable feeling. Sort of a rising panic.
I would estimate that you need to have a 190-200kg 1RM to do that weight (your results may vary).

I've never been a particularly strong squatter. I think the most I got was probably 12-13reps on 90kg/200lbs at a body weight of 75kg/166lb, and that was doing back squats; I've always hated how my back and abdomen felt when I did them. I've only just started doing front squats in the last few months; I don't really feel it all that much in those 2 areas, but so much more in the legs. They're so uncomfortable, though. It took me about 3-4 weeks just to get the technique right. I never really like to go past 10 reps squatting as I always feel I'm going to pass out, and this feeling is exacerbated for me when I do front squats.

For me, the squat was the best exercise ever. I've got some personal bests in leg movements (squat, inverted leg press, leg extension and leg curl) that if I had not done them I would never believe them, LOL! And Platz, while a contemporary of mine (time wise, mind you as I was never as great a bodybuilder as he was!), was not my inspiration.
That would be J.C. Hise and the powerlifting men I trained with decades ago. Good seeing you, brother!
