Curse of The Trailer Park Boys.
RIP

Rush has been my favourite band (tied with Annihilator) since 1981.
Terribly upsetting news.
Neil was left alone when his daughter and wife died (separately, but essentially one after the other) and now he leaves behind his (new) wife and (new) daughter.
:(
For me, Rush is officially gone.
I was OK with it being retired. But the entity still had its three equally-important members breathing. So it was comforting to know Neil, Geddy and Alex were “out there”.
One of the three is now dead.
Hail Neil Peart!
-
I hope he pulls through

Arguably the greatest drummer to have ever lived 8)
RIP Neil.
-
loved his style/sound/power,,,guy was legend rip...i loved there stuff to exit stage left,,even follow up record that was mtv ish..i grew back to them with counterparts and some of the live stuff that followed,,,geddy voice though on last 10 yrs tours was not good .see him straining to sing,,musically they were tight all the way through...

:(

Saw Rush a couple times back in the 70s.
Got right up by the stage. You could just walk up in those days.
I wonder who will buy his drumset? It was amazing.

One of the best drummers - EVER! The Professor, and an incredible lyricist.
Saw RUSH in concert 4 times, and they were awesome.

Amazing drummer. But has come to be a knee-jerk pick by so, SO many.
His snare work was frightening, and godly, but contemporary drumming has become SO much more complex, sophisticated and creative.
The level of some guys today is absolutely insane.

Go to YouTube and watch some Buddy Rich solos and have a reality check

Go to YouTube and watch some Buddy Rich solos and have a reality check
You assume I’m not VERY familiar with all things BR. Like I say, he was a monstrous drummer and the consummate professional musician. A legend who actually deserves the recognition as such. Some of his drumming is downright scary (along with some of his personality traits, haha).
My knowledge of the man runs reasonably deep.
With all this stated, reality is there are drummers today who are equally as monstrous and talented behind a kit. But as with all legends, no, no one will ever be a Buddy replacement.
He was the greatest to do what he did. And he set a benchmark of excellence that’ll always be a target for aspiring musicians.

Peart was the GOAT in Rock music. His lyric writing is second to none. Top 5 band for me since I first got "All the Worlds a Stage" in 8th grade at age 12.
Heck it came out in 1976 when I was ten. Timeless stuff.
Published 6 books. Great writer.
Saw them so many times, lost count, even their last R40 tour, 4 years back. I didn't realize he was battling cancer, seemed to keep it quiet in a day of intrusive media.
1st album Drummer John Rutsey passed back in 2008, sort of a GetBigger who got into bodybuilding at one point in his life post-Rush.
Rush is dead, would like to see some sort of Lifeson/Lee tribute show or something w/ some different drummers guesting. Of course they would need to be amazing (Portnoy from Dream Theatre, etc).
Sort of like what Gov't Mule did when Bassist Allen Woody died.
I guess E. Van Halen isn't doing well w/ throat or mouth cancer (not good) childhood music hero's dropping all around.
-
I knew he was a private man.. shocking to know he's gone. Glad I got the chance to see them in concert.
-
A musician lol naa
Mozart

RIP

Sucks. Strangely I was listening to them while it happened :'( I was more into the heavier forms of metal, but Hemispheres to Moving Pictures were classic. His influence on drummers & rock/metal music in general was undeniable.

Great drummer. He would be lost behind Peart’s kit. Maybe greatest percussionist would be a more suitable description of Peart.

Bonham was alright but vastly overrated. Alex Van Halen sucks. The Hot For Teacher drum solo was ALL effects.
-
I’m no musician ,but sound I like or seen live...
Peart
Palmer
Larry Mullen jr great beat sound
Buford
Cozy Powell
Vinny appice
-
It’s not like he was gonna compose the drum solo to Beethoven’s Sixth Symphony...
-

you are an idiot with little to no knowledge on music
-

If you don't play music, you may not know too much. Bonham was far from overrated. Alex far from "sucks".
I've been a bass player in metal bands for 35 years, so I know about keeping time w/ good drummers.
And you are way off...
-
Larry mullen jr handsom lady smasher waddy approved
-
speaking of Bass players and Rush... Powerlift66... i still have my 72 Jazz ... black with black blocks... going on 30 years with it....

This thread is about Neil Peart.

Rush is currently seeking a new drummer to tour with.
It will be Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater, you hear it here first

Yup heard that too.

Al and Geddy won’t ever again perform as Rush.
Ever.
Now, they’d possibly do something as ... something ... but it wouldn’t be billed as “Rush”.
Also, Geddy’s ability to correctly sing much of the band’s material is over. His voice is largely shot.
And Lifeson has quite bad arthritis.

Word in the industry is they've already reached out to various possibilities including Carl Palmer.

They'll play again. Quit playing to honor their ill bandmate.

I think so too. The thing about Mike Portnoy joining them might have been a rumor but I think it'll happen eventually

Here Peart is exposed as being way less than adequate as he tries to play outside Rush.

Nah, nonsense. That would be like asking Buddy Rich to play Rush songs. Wouldn't know where to begin.
Totally different Genre.
My buddy from work is an amazing jazz drummer., sits in with a lot of the high end jazz bands.
He came over once to jam w/ our Rock band and was clueless. (His own words) and it showed.

Your buddy from work doesn't figure into the discussion. A real drummer is versed in all styles. Neil Peart knew he was a fraud and was honest about it, hence his taking up of drum lessons later in life. Buddy Rich could play Rush songs, no question about it.

In the simplest of terms, you haven’t a clue.
Did Peart blow a load on your mom on the Caress of Steel tour or something?
Guess you are also unaware that Buddy praised Neil’s talent and playing back when Peart was a young man. Said he was quite remarkable.
It’s why Rich’s family CHOSE Neil to helm the Burning For Buddy sessions. He was their first choice. They well know how much respect Rich had for Peart.
Just stop.

Peart bankrolled the project.

Best trolling I've seen on here in a while.

With all due respect to Buddy Rich, he wouldn't be able to find his way around this kit? Not that he couldn't with practice, but he didn't. Peart took drumming to a new level. He incorporated so many sounds and tools into his playing to make his sound. It's like electric guitar. There's before Hendrix, and there's after Hendrix.

Hendrix is considered by some to be overrated and sloppy. I am certainly no fan.

I thought that was the bass guitarist.
