I just took a few "selfies" and was astonished at how fat ive gotten. But when im looking in the mirror i can clearly see the outline of my abs? Either A) im too fat B) the act of selfies somehow blurs definition.
Is there a consensus amongst the more experienced vets here? I mean, this is still a bodybuilding forum yes?
Examples would be great, like "this is ok this is borderline and this is definitely not ok."
I think what im afraid of is Im over here totally deluding myself that im big yet not really because im way too fat.
I dunno. I hate eating things that dont taste good. I can diet (ie take DNP) when i have to...

Also is there some secret to getting your biceps to pop when hitting a side chest im not aware of? All my life every time i hit it doesnt matter what side my biceps doesnt really jump when i flex it. Guys like heath or lee priest or arnold or levrone really hit awesome side chests mostly because of their biceps. Whats the secret? Is it overall arm mass or a secret exercise or what?

If you really want to see how much fat you got just do a week of no carb/no plant food. Eat only animal products except dairy.
The problem with bulking is the more fat you start to accumulate the more your insulin sensitivity goes down which leads to more calories being stored as fat. People should only start bulking when they are below 10% BF.
And I would strongly recomend, during bulking, that you don't mix high amounts of carbs and fat in the same meal. Do carb + protein and fat + protein meals instead.

Pics can be the realisation that your actually fat, I think we all delude ourselves one way or another in the mirror...
Agree should start bulking when lean and only slightly increase bodyfat, not just get fat as fuck.

By my calculations i have ~24lbs of fat to lose to get to 10% (assuming my bf% is ~20% which i think is reasonable.)
Thats very sobering to know. Take away all my fat and im...very average...

Are you running juice?
If so go on a cruise (250mgs test max) and do a 4-6 week low carb run and add daily fasted cardio.... By the time your done you be tighter and ready for a nice rebound.
Then add the steroids and food back in together, drop the cardio and you'll grow real nice. I used to always do this during and after my cruise periods, I made solid gains everytime.

Just go by waist size. An article in the New England Journal of Medicine some years ago stated that abdominal fat is the most accurate measure of obesity. Simply tracking your waist size is enough. If yours is, say, 32” when lean, then going past 34 is an indication you are eating too much.

men should try to stay around 12% of less
life is so much better when you are lean. I am currently bulking now since i need to add size (I am tall and i need more mass to compete) but life is so much better lean and mean.
I am tired as fuck all the time lol and i prefer to sit over stand ;D

I know! As little as 10 extra pounds of fat make a huge difference in how you feel.

Being fat is never okay. Even steroid using bodybuilders of the past gained lean weight into a contest. Guys like Arnold, Ferrigno, Zane and Franco gained weight for a contest. They didn't lose weight for a contest.

If you took selfies, and you look fat to yourself... then you probably look obese to attractive women (sad but true)

Not only is it healthier but a huge confidence boost getting larger as a contest approaches as opposed to shrinking away.

I dont know how to post these so i uploaded some to instagram. My friend helped me take a couple but hes 82 years old and we cant figure out to time him takung the shot and me flexing properly. I felt awkward even asking a grown man to take pictures of me with my shirt off lol.
Its not easy for me to do this. Im very much the skinny kid who started lifting because of bullies in high school. I was 105lbs at 5ft7 when i began lifting. I dont know my weight currently but i was over 250 when i went to the hospital maybe 5 weeks ago now. Im still regaining what i lost having been bed ridden for nearly a month straight. I included some pics of where i am very fortunately still able to train. Dont laugh it aint much but i started in my garage and a power rack and some barbells and dumbells are mirevthan enough. Im quite comfortable in this environment.
Today i squatted 315 for 6 easy reps and 365x4 i had 2-4 more in me easy but i had this number in my head "man i would love to get just 4 reps!" And i held back. I really had to dig to get 4 reps with 315 a week ago i think thats why i held back.
As fat as i am i have to wear a belt dor 36 jeans or theyll slide right off. I have my genetic blessings to be sure. My issues are all mental which xan be the toughest to face as i have plenty of experience.

Oh and the pic with the little bar on the ground is my honemade sissy squat contraption. To hit stretch position for quads. Works better than anything i put that on everything.
Lol and the power rack will fall forward so i put plates on the back of it.
And yes those are spider webs on some of the 45s

I think dieted down i could get my waist to mmm 29-30 inches. +-1
Hard to say really. Im genetically very very skinny. The last year i played baseball i was 13 and recall having to wear size xs pants because i was so thin and frail. Any size bigger and id trip from the flapping of the pant legs. You could see my ribs. I took ritalin since i was 8 years old until about the age i started lifting. I know im fat but my bones are very thin despite my wide structure.
When i diet down either i have it or i dont. But i am going to find out, once and for all.

A mirror is more accurate that a camera because:
- it's life sized
- three dimensional
- virtually infinite resolution and color
- real time motion
- light rays come off your body and go into someones eyes in the same way that light comes off your body and bounces off the mirror and goes back into your eyes, you are seeing a life sized 3D recreation of yourself standing behind the mirror.
Camera:
- 2D
- limited resolution and color
- lense distortion
- color distortion
- lighting distortion
- image shown on a screen which adds more distortion
The downside to the mirror is that the image is flipped horizontally,.

At my heaviest (when I was young) I weighed around 250 lbs. at 6' 1"and my bodyfat was probably 24%. BFD. I no longer wanted to be on the dais and felt good. Strong too but to be honest carrying that much weight was simultaneously easy and oddly taxing. I could still run as I had not yet been injured.
I think bodyfat is needed but not to excess. Even too much muscle, as in today's competitors weighing 250 at 5' 6" is unhealthy and ridiculous looking.

Good for comparison actually thanks. I think I'm holding more water than I should but my diet is LOL diet? For lunch today I had a giant cup o noodles and 14 chicken nuggets with syrup on them. I eat waffles and eggs almost every day sometimes twice a day (I should call them sticks of butter with bits of waffles swimming in syrup lol)
ah what to do what to do...if I competed now lets say I started prep tomorrow I have ~30lbs of fat to lose I think. I would be in shape around mmm 195-200 realistically. So if I can get to 275, I would diet down to 230ish. So 275 is my goal, and i'll go from there (assuming I can get that heavy but my appetite comes and goes, some days I am so hungry I want to vomit and I get 9 meals in some days like today I barely eat twice. I kind of go with what my body is telling me, and I have no problem gaining weight. but 275 is way out there for me, I don't know if I can sustain the food intake to keep it going. might have to do weight gainers when I can afford to.)
also my backup gym is apparently drying up on me. I got so pissed when I found out yesterday I chucked my phone at the wall and it did not survive. I was on track to hit 405 on squats Monday and I am super pissed and a bit depressed because I don't have a barbell or a squat rack or power rack here at the house. im really stressing, I had been 110% that I was going to compete this year and then dislocated my shoulder Christmas eve, down for 6 weeks, got 5 weeks of training in and gained 30lbs and I was hospitalized and was down another 4 weeks. got 2-3 weeks in the gym and wham my gym closed. I started lifting at my friends shop wham the city came down on him and he won't let anyone there that's not on payroll. when does this bullshit end????? ffs only in the last month was I able to do back squats because my shoulder hurt too much (ya'll who never had shoulder problems have no idea, it's a blessing to be able to rotate your shoulders back like you do when you do back squats trust me. I never realized until I COULDN'T FCKING DO THEM what a blessing squats are)
but I have faith in God and I know He is in control and eventually things will work themselves out according to His Will and I am blessed to be alive and with a body that can workout so im not tripping too too badly.

Will do. Also I remember Shawn Ray saying in his video he always used the mirror as his guide not the scale because the image you see looking back at you can't lie or something like that.
