I'm happy I have rental income, but if this continues, how are my tenants supposed to pay their rent?
I'm happy to say that I'll make it through this, but just mathematically, there going to be a lot of people suffering, basically no matter what happens. I see no way around that, assuming the services that have been mandated to be closed, remain closed.
If the quarantine rules and recommendations are not taken seriously - or possibly even codified into law - more people will die of the coronavirus, but if a strong and effective [and potentially medium- to long-lasting] quarantine is implemented, there will be a large and growing economic cost.
Someone on here said that this is sort of proving how dependent we are on debt in terms of propping up our society. Sad but true. This whole quarantine will also show how learning in schools is not necessary, as homeschooling is perfectly fine. There are also many jobs which will now be obvious that can be worked from home. It just makes you wonder how many job sites have massive buildings for employees to work jobs that could ultimately be done from home. Call centre jobs for example. This will allow certain businesses to completely change their business model, which will result in lower prices, if they can manage to completely change their business model to allow workers to work from home.
As I see it, there is nothing that Trump can do and get praised. If he enforces strict quarantine measures to the extent that he is allowed to, he will be blamed for the economy failing, but if he does not enforce strict measures [again, to whatever extent he is even able to as president, as I assume states have a lot of rights when it comes to these matters], then he will be blamed for a larger death toll. It's lose-lose, IMO. No matter what he chooses, his political opposition will blame him for the opportunity cost of whatever that choice happens to end up being.
It really seems like a lose-lose situation to me. I would not want to be a national leader right about now. Either more people die due to spread of the virus if businesses stay open and the economy is able to prosper a little more than it currently is, or more people will remain in quarantine with fewer people dying, but with the economy is harder. It seems like any attempt to balance the two will just make one of those two shift a little at the cost or benefit of the other.
Also, I find that the rules for this change every day. Only yesterday afternoon did the Wal-Mart stores in my community start limiting the number of people allowed to go into the store. I think within the last week, Southern Ontario changed it so that you cannot be in a car with anyone who does not live in your home. I don't think Northern Ontario has adopted that model yet [since we are more isolated, with a much smaller population], but for all I know, we already did, and can get fined for not complying. There are literally so many different cities/jurisdictions doing different things that I can't keep up with all of them.
I want to apply "common sense", as my father suggested - it's just hard to do that when even experts don't know very much about this virus, and recommendations literally change by the week, if not by the day...
Normally, by principle, I would have a problem with this sort of assault on our freedom of mobility. But being a homebody/hermit myself, I have literally noticed no changes to my personal life. In fact, I have been going out MORE during all this virus shutdown stuff, LOL. And fewer cars on the road is nice - so I'm actually having a good time through this. But on principle, I'm not so sure that these measures are appropriate...I guess as time goes on, and we determine just how damaging this virus is, we will know whether or not all of these measures are necessary.
Sales of Stephen King's novel "The Stand" were up 25% last I checked. I saw the DVD at Wal-Mart in the $5 bin, and bought it, LOL. My mom watched it, and liked it. I have not watched it yet, but intend to. The book is something like 1,000 pages long, so I doubt I would be reading it, heh.
Maybe this is just nature's way of pushing back against human consumption and overpopulation to some extent. If what we are doing is hurting the environment and animals, causing them to get sick in new ways, and causing that sickness to be passed on to human beings...well...I guess we can expect more of this, assuming it is nature pushing back on human population growth and consumption.

Perhaps gassing democrat voters could be a replacement offer

Just checked the mailbox again and nothing.
Absolutely ridiculous. Why send the money if it will not come until September? This will likely have settled down by then.

Being curious about the Coronavirus stimilus, I looked it up and here's what is required, how much you get and how will you get it according The College Investor [https://thecollegeinvestor.com/33324/coronavirus-stimulus-checks/#tab-con-3]
This is a cut and paste. So, please do not hold me responsible for any inaccuracies in this information. If you follow the link, there are additional details which cover other circumstances, such as what happens if you don't have to file taxes.
The stimulus check amount for 2020 is adults would get $1,200 each (so $2,400 for couples filing jointly) and children $500 each (children are qualifying children according to IRS rules claimed in the household under 17 years old). The benefit would start to phase out at a rate of $5 for every additional $100 in income.
You also cannot be claimed as a dependent on someone else's return.
The benefit phaseout starts at:
$75,000 in adjusted gross income for singles
$112,500 for heads of household
$150,000 for married couples filing jointly
Completely phase out at $99,000 for singles and $198,000 for couples (with no children)
The current bill as written requires you to have filed a 2019 tax return or a 2018 return if you haven't filed your 2019 return yet by the time the checks go out, and it would send the benefit checks to the address listed on the tax return. See below for updating your information with the IRS.
Is This Income, A Tax Credit, Or What?
This stimulus check is a refundable tax credit for 2020, being paid to you early. You will have to claim in on your 2020 taxes, but there is nothing to pay back... unless:
You received an incorrect amount based on household or filing (such as you're now divorced and should have received just a single check, etc.)
We are currently uncertain what happens if your earnings in 2020 exceed the AGI limits
-
Looks accurate to me.
This is how I interpret it.

Is it possible to get two checks both for $1200.00?

But not elsewhere?

Okay this is frustrating. There is a website where you can check the status of your stimulus check, https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment (https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/get-my-payment). My calculations indicate that I qualify for a stimulus check. Since some folks have received their check and I have not, I decided to check the status of mine on the above website. On two separate days, I filled in all the required information on the online form exactly as it appears on my IRS 1040 form. Both times I got an error message telling me the information is incorrect. After several tries, they locked me out for a day (as a security measure). I did a little research to see what the problem could be and discovered that error messages are a common occurrence with this online tool. Trust the government to screw things up.
If you decide to check the status of your check and get this error message or one of the others, well, too bad so sad. Don't bother calling the IRS regarding any issues you encounter because they aren't taking calls. Lucky for me, I can wait for the check to be deposited whenever that happens because this seems to be the only option available.

Stay strong, Uncle Prime!
-
Prime, I'm sorry to hear of your woes. I can't really give you any advice. Hopefully it will just appear in your account. That's what happened for me. It was like the Trump Fairy came over night, and put cash in my account.
-
Trump knows you're not a Trump supporter so no Trump bucks for you. Seriously, I got mine direct deposit. I got mine the same week most got it.
-
It is likely that those of us who paid taxes instead of getting a return deducted from our accounts will be be sent a check in the mail. You'd think since the IRS had the information to take money out of your account they use that for a direct deposit in to your account. Not so, or so I read. Boo hoo! So here's the deal, if your check's in the mail you'll get based your adjusted gross income. The less it was the sooner you'll get your check.
Here's a schedule:
The IRS is now sending paper stimulus checks, and plans to send approximately 5 million paper checks each week. The order of stimulus checks is not random or based on geography. The IRS will send checks starting with taxpayers who have the lowest annual adjusted gross income as reported on their 2018 or 2019 tax return, whichever is more recent. Here is the planned weekly schedule for the IRS to mail stimulus checks based on annual adjusted gross income, as first reported by The Washington Post. All dates represent the “week ending” (for example, the week ending April 24) and the IRS could change this schedule at any time.
Less than $10,000: April 24
$10,001 - $20,000: May 1
$20,001 - $30,000: May 8

$110,001 - $120,000: July 10
$120,001 - $130,000: July 17
$130,001- $140,000: July 24
$140,001 - $150,000: July 31

$180,001 - $190,000: August 28
$190,001 - $198,000: September 4
Remaining checks: September 11
Looks like I'll be waiting for mine for awhile. Can one of my fellow Getbiggers lend me some money? If not I'll fly to Hawaii and hang out at Pellius' favorite McDonald's till he shows up. Just kidding. I don't really like McDonald's cheeseburgers that much. :)

You're probably right. Do you think if I made a strong appeal to Melania, she would put in a good word for me? I'm afraid if I got too close to Donald, he'd hurt me or call me names. ;D

It's 100% random. I fall in the July range and received $300 like 2 weeks ago or something. My parents are retired in one of the hardest hit states, Louisiana, haven't received jack till this day.

I did the online form on the irs.gov website two weeks ago and finally yesterday my status updated showing im getting mine tomorrow yeeeeeee
I will say if you are getting an error message filling out a form its probably something you are missing. I got a few error messages and had to go.back a couple pages and found my ssn# had depopulated and i had to type it in again. Was all good after that.
-
Are you broke Prime?
Will that $1,200 make a big difference?
Can we start a "Go Fund Me" for you?
-
Well if you would have done some research you could have seen if your direct deposit info was in the system, now it’s too late. Weren’t you so excited about getting so much for unemployment recently?
-

Was your 'check' a direct deposit? Sorry about your parents being in one of the hardest hit states and that not being part of the government's criteria. Hope they weren't counting on the stimulus check to get by.

There was no CARES Act check amount for $352. Perhaps it's a tax return? Perhaps it never happened.....?
Well there was at least one stimulus check for $732.45 which is what I got. Depositing it has become a horror story though. Tried to deposit it via my bank's phone app which responded with "success" following the photo of the front and again with the photo of the back. However, the deposit never showed up in my account. Tried this twice before going to the bank drive-up yesterday to deposit it. They couldn't do it because it had already been processed even though they acknowledged that no deposit was recorded. I called the bank number the branch manager gave me and was told that they should have accepted the check when I tried to deposit it in person. They arranged for me to go into a branch today to speak in person to a banker. So, in about an hour, I have an appointment with a Well Fargo banker to get this taken care of. Wish me luck. This whole stimulus thing has been nothing but a hassle in my case.

No, I would have said i got 3k, while being in hospital doing crazy drugs, fighting wes, etc
we just have normal medical jobs, pretty simple (shes a psych nurse)
you make a certain amount, they dont give you the full amount. and no, it was the stimulus, got a follow-up snail mail on it this past week
very far from being rich, just people w/ jobs. (I know unheard of).

Brutal if true. Always do a deposit in person, srs

Keep on thinking this if you want. Fact is you don't know what you're talking about.
"Single filers whose 2019 adjusted gross incomes do not exceed $75,000 are eligible for the full $1,200 stimulus payment. From that point, the IRS payment shrinks by $5 for every $100 of income, before expiring at $99,000." https://www.nerdwallet.com/blog/taxes/coronavirus-stimulus-bill-payments/
The actual amount of the check is finite down to the penny. The calculator below is an estimate and therefore not the actual amount in dollars and cents.
