Any thoughts?
Initiall filings are up to 21m or so and another 3-4m should be recorded as filed in the Thursday number. But perhaps almost half the people who lose jobs/ work are not eligible for insured unemployment benefits. If you add in lost work, underemployed, not eligible, it doesnt take that much to move the actual unemployed number up to 40m or 45m, on a 156m job market. Thats over 25% plus the 4% from before and you are nearly at 33% which is Great Depression levels of unemployment.
https://www.epi.org/blog/unemployment-filing-failures-new-survey-confirms-that-millions-of-jobless-were-unable-to-file-an-unemployment-insurance-claim/
Do people here have expeience of this or you think that is wildly too high?
-
I honestly think that was the number pre-Covid and the current number is much higher.
Its total nonsense to think that the unemployment rate was ever in single digits in the United States. The number on Disability and Social Security are way higher than you could ever calculate accurately.
Furthermore, most people have useless employment and their jobs should probably be permanently eliminated at this point. Its amusing that nobody is missing the majority of non-essential workers and that it does not really take much to keep our country running. The non-essential workers are basically fluff for a poorly thought out economic model based upon ficitious manufactured "constant growth".
-
Also, I might add, Unemployment numbers are stupid benchmarks to look for. The real stats you want are Labor Force Participation Rates. That will tell you the correct story.
Unemployment Rates are nonsensical.

You mean when leftists support committing genocide to the time of 600K fetuses per year? Yeah, again, do the math. You’ll never admit this gimmick is Adonis, but if you are, I’ll be in Charlotte in August for the RNC. Would love to best your ass and film it....pedo

Will you be wearing shoe lifts on this trip? If a fight were to take place, it would have to be according to Flos Duellatorum circa 1410 because it just would not be fair due to your height. An advantage would also have to be given to you in some form due to your advanced age and vascular condition. Perhaps you get to use both hands and your opponent would use the non-dominant hand with the other tied behind the back, for fairness sake.
Either way, Donald Trump JR. follows me on Twitter and not you. LOLOL!

Don’t worry about my age, height or “vascular condition” It won’t last anymore that a minute or two guaranfuckingteed. If this is Adonis (and you’ll never prove it because 1. Your a gimmick 2. Gimmicks are cowards) but let’s say you are, I’d love nothing more than to beat your pedo ass on camera within a fraction of your life. Also, IF this is Adonis and you can prove it, nothing has changed, I still know EXACTLY where you live and it ain’t by google or anyone that’s told me.
I don’t give a flying fuck who follows you.

Coronavirus is real. It's a worldwide pandemic. Here in the USA we are officially over 1 Million cases.
As per the CDC, as many as 34,000 people died in the 2018-2019 flu season. That's the USA count over the course of a year. Coronavirus has already killed over 60,000 Americans in less than 2 months. How many more would die if given another 10 months to complete a year? This is a serious pandemic.
That aside, gentlemen play nice. We're all adults here and I want all of you alive and healthy to share with your family during the these difficult times.
This place is more fun with all the usual characters.

You’re right, but the odds of dying from a flying golf ball in the middle of the pacific are greater than dying of this

You might be right, but my friends dad did die from it. He had no underlying illnesses and was healthy for someone that worked out, and did 5k’s
On a side note Newsom just ordered to close all beaches and parks again
-
With limited testing available and many countries flat out lying about the number of infections / death (North Korea 0 cases reported , a great example) who knows what the infection / death ratio really is. My neighbor at 68, appearing healthy for his age just died of it. He just got antibiotics for the pneumonia , some oxygen, and headache medication. Lasted 8 days after diagnosis.

I seriously sorry about your friends dad, really. As far as Newsom, we’re actually discussing that on my FB page and all of our community boards on FB.
It was prompted when our county supervisor interrupted an interview with Newsom and a local TV network. Our supervisor said that there was a county supervisor vote that was a 5-2 vote to keep the beaches open. Obviously this didn’t set well with Newsom and that was his response to the vote. Vindictive to the state

For most people Corona is basially nothing. But for perhaps 0.5% of otherwise healthy people it starts to overwhelm them and its very serious and they end up in hospital on heavy treatment. Then there are the people on deaths door anyway that get finished off same as flu.
With the healthcare workers dying, some die every year, but setting that aside, I guess being around Corona every day, it increases the chance they get an inflection bad enough to overwhelm their immune systems.

There are so many "essential" businesses still in operation that it's a joke.
The traffic on one of the main roads near me is very busy with trucks and cars.
Only schools and small mom & pop, non-food businesses have really been shuttered. Even liquor stores are open.
The lawn care guys are out in force while your local roofer is forced to be idle. Idiotic. My neighbor the plumber is busy fixing pipes. He gets to work but the roofer can't? A leaky pipe gets fixed but a leaky roof does not? Idiotic.
So much of our economy is for foolish, non-essential crap that gets people in debt.

All the UE number have been skewed for years. They’ve massaged the accounting process so much that the number is meaningless

US weekly jobless claims total 3.169 million, bringing seven-week tally to 33.5 million Jobless claims for the week of April 26th - May 2nd totaled 3.17 million, the Labor Department reported. First-time filings for unemployment insurance hit 3.17 million last week, bringing the total to 33.5 million over the past seven weeks, the Labor Department reported Thursday. May 14th - Another 3 million added to the unemployment ranks, bringing the total to over 36 million, yet California and Los Angeles County tries to keep people down and unemployment with more longer 'stay at home' orders. We think that Los Angeles County is over 20% unemployment rate, higher than the US, and that is undercounted. But for some, who cares, as long as people stay inside 'protecting' themselves, while they are losing everything they own. Enough is enough. Let business open.
The advance number of actual initial claims under state programs, unadjusted, totaled 2,614,093 in the week ending May
9, a decrease of 241,467 (or -8.5 percent) from the previous week. The seasonal factors had expected a decrease of
69,880 (or -2.4 percent) from the previous week. There were 188,264 initial claims in the comparable week in 2019. In
addition, for the week ending May 9, 29 states reported 841,995 initial claims for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance
(PUA).
The advance unadjusted insured unemployment rate was 14.5 percent during the week ending May 2, a decrease of 0.4
percentage point from the prior week. The advance unadjusted number for persons claiming UI benefits in state
programs totaled 21,143,403, a decrease of 629,189 (or -2.9 percent) from the preceding week. The seasonal factors had
expected a decrease of 1,051,708 (or -4.8 percent) from the previous week. A year earlier the rate was 1.1 percent and
the volume was 1,539,086.
The highest insured unemployment rates in the week ending April 25 were in California (27.7), Michigan (23.1),
Nevada (22.0), Pennsylvania (21.2), Rhode Island (20.6), Georgia (20.2), Vermont (20.0), New York (18.6),
Connecticut (18.0), and Washington (18.0).

Why would Jesus let a virus such as this exist? Is he secretly trying to promote Evolution via Natural Selection again?
Probably because the people dying have done some horrific shit in their lives that they have kept secret... 99.9% of the deaths are "old folk". Jus sayin ; :-\
-
When/if they cut the "stimulus" checks off....will be hell to pay. The longer they push lock down the less chance the checks ever end. It would be total victory for bankrupt blue states.
-
April 25th you had 25.3m in benefits programmes vs 18m Continuing Claims CCs, a 40.6% difference.
To May 9th you had 22.8m CCs and 2.98 Initial Claims ICs, total 25.8m.
Adjust that up by 40.6% and you get 36.3m likely on all programmes at May 9th.
Feb Labor Force was 164.5m, so 36.3m is an unemployment rate of 22.1%.
But that does not include self employed and contractors or part time with reduced work. They have probably lost on average 20-25% of their output based on the economy shrinking 10-12% and the government and healthcare being half the economy.
So I would say the unemployment rate now is definitely 25% maybe higher.

And the unemployment numbers continues in the USA, now 42 million unemployed....
The state of employment in the U.S. took centerstage Thursday when the U.S. Labor Department released its weekly jobless claims report.
An additional 1.877 million Americans filed for unemployment benefits in the week ending May 30, exceeding economists’ estimates for 1.843 million initial jobless claims during the week. The prior week’s figure was revised higher to 2.13 million from the previously reported 2.12 million.
This week’s report marked the first time that weekly initial jobless claims came in below two million in 10 weeks. Over the past 11 weeks, more than 42 million Americans have filed for unemployment insurance.

why dems answer with pointless memes for everything is a little strange
wife and i have been in medical field since meeting in college (20+ years)
always worked
she recently lost her job (covid) but was able to collect right away (only 700.00 a week but we'll take it).
figure we both paid into it for last 20 years, may as well as we supported (funded it) all who have been collecting on it for 20+ years.
local hospitals starting to hire some back after the covid hoax, i think she'll be fine soon with job back
