Guy was way in over his head just walking out.
-
his bodyfat was too low
-
Won't go to Ibiza get the girls anytime soon.
-
Oh man that noise is awful
-
Confirms my suspicion that most powerlifters are retards. Willingly stressing your body to stupid levels for essentially zero financial gain is a game only fools play
-
COVID-19 claims another one. :'(

I cringed too! :-X :-X
So is that both patella tendons breaking at once? Or maybe the cruciates..?

When I was young I looked up to powerlifters, but now in my mid-50's, I have to agree with this statement.
BTW, that sound was probably both patella tendons snapping off.

Great Jay Masters impersonation

He Fux'd up.
LOL! That's classic :)
I'm not unsympathetic to this guy's horrific injury, but truly: wtf was he thinking? Had he ever squatted anywhere near that before?
-
Maybe he trained with plates in lbs and forgot he was competing with plates in kgs.
-
Looked like double quad tears, possibly patellar tendons. Sucks for him. Will never be the same again.
Forget squatting heavy again.
-
Just stepped on a bug and was surprised.

Not necessarily true.
A good friend tore both quads off squatting over 900lbs
He came back after surgery & Squatted 1000lbs !! In competition.
Now Mentally that takes a hell of a lot to accomplish after such an horrific injury.
-
Brouch.
-
it's just a flesh wound.

Admittedly I don't watch much power lifting, but why da fuk don't they use those strap type things everywhere? Great safety feature.

That you come back stronger after such an injury,
Isn't that more of an exception and not the norm?
Else, everyone would tear both quads just to be able to come back stronger.

Yes I’d very likely agree with you - Though it shows that it isn’t necessarily a career ender.
Probably not the best Route to take tearing off both quads I’d say.

Saw some pics earlier, not going to watch the video. Horrible

This is why I always used light weights and high reps. That looks like a really heavy weight! Ouch indeed!

1. I saw one-time Canadian pro BB Jason Marcovici do this on a Smith machine. Both went.
2. Heard shit snapping on another guy, at another gym, as well. Squatting. Then ... screaming. Left in an ambulance.
3. In the video, I imagine one went, and as often happens, the giant sudden increase of tension requirement in the other caused it to go, too.
4. Super-extreme tightness with wraps can hinder flexion/stretch ability.
5. Likely he was seriously overtrained from his peaking routine. Voila.
6. Same shit happened to powerlifting king-of-kings Ed Coan. Video’s on YouTube. Eddie recovered and again squatted 800-plus.
7. Poor guy. I feel very badly for him. As said, the psychological damage is the worst.
8. If you don’t think pushing the limits of human performance is cool, simply move along and get back to whatever it is that you DO think is cool. And if there’s nothing, you’re likely a female or have malfunctioning testicles.
P.S. Anabolic steroid use results, eventually, in very brittle connective tissue. This dramatically increases likelihood of tears/ruptures/catastrophic injury, etc.

Does anyone here know how much that was he was trying to squat?

880 lbs.

880 lbs.
That would've been impressive. I used only a 4 inch belt and a single ace bandage around each knee to squat but never competed. I am pretty certain I could not squat that much, even at my peak. Too bad he failed so dramatically and hopefully he will get better.

Dude took enough steps for the Atomic Dog line dance.

You can't make an omelette without breaking some eggs.

That was almost a 45lb jump over his personal best which he also squatted at this meet. He's usually a high 700's - low 800's lifter. He was far and away the best squatter there, and wasn't chasing a record, so who knows why he chose that big a jump. His numbers -

But he's not making an omelette. Extensive surgery, therapy and 12 months to heal. Probably never squat heavy again. The physiological damage is even worse... when he is all healed and gets under a bar, the first thing he will think is his tendons snapping off.
-
Nothing against these guys but..why?
Squat like Tony Pearson and you´ll be in shape.
-
Whats the point of having spotters or any sort of safety cage/rack whatever in place if this can happen regardless

Maybe to stop the weight falling on the dude if he drops it for some reasons?

I believe it´s more about being cought in the lower position

Honestly, the best spotters and equipment wouldn't have did much. by the time the bar hits the pins/straps, etc...., the damage is already done.
Coan's similar injury -

Paul Jordan's, which is considered one of the worst in PL -

Jay "Call 911" Masters with double quad tear

They did absolutely nothing wrong but have you ever seen such wimpy spotters? WTF and no back spotter. And walking out of a Monolift? OK. Whatever.
-
Damn, no homo, but Tony P is giving off some serious homo vibes!
-
He tore everything around his knee, not just a knee. Immediately was taken to the hospital, underent a 6 hours operation. Doctor said he will have too lie motionless on bed 2 months.

Misinformation in that vid about knee angle and joint stress.

I came across some commentary suggesting that you should lift in a meet the way you trained. If there was no monolift at his gym but one at the meet, then he should have taken his steps as he would without a monolift.
I’ve never used a monolift, so I don’t know how easy or hard it is to use for the very first time. If the dude trained with a monolift, then all that dancing around was just sloppy.

As usual, another “pro” who isn’t much of one when it comes to weight training.
His squatting, besides being embarrassingly shallow, looks wobbly and like shit.
Oh, and nice footwear ... for squatting. Not.

Agreed. What we do is make sure we compete in a federation that has the type of equipment we train with- generally. That said I know some big strong boys that walk out of the Monolift too.
And a Monolift does take a few workouts to get comfortable. I still prefer racks.
I hope the powerlifter heals.

12 ply squat suit, stupid monolift, and 12 retards touching the bar..................... ..what happened to REAL powerlifting ???

He was lifting raw, save for the wraps.
He walked out the squat, not utilizing the monolift’s primary advantage.
During the attempt, no one was touching the bar.
Have a clue about something before commenting.
Hope this helps.

Never made comment on his appearance.
I don’t drink beer. My belly is the result of the occasional hamburger, thank you very much.

Could you imagine living in Oakland with these idiots
Making noise all the time
Driving your car down the road almost being hit constantly
Just noise and trash everywhere
