880 lbs.

That would've been impressive.  I used only a 4 inch belt and a single ace bandage around each knee to squat but never competed.  I am pretty certain I could not squat that much, even at my peak.  Too bad he failed so dramatically and hopefully he will get better.

Guy was way in over his head just walking out.

Dude took enough steps for the Atomic Dog line dance.

1. I saw one-time Canadian pro BB Jason Marcovici do this on a Smith machine. Both went.

2. Heard shit snapping on another guy, at another gym, as well. Squatting. Then ... screaming. Left in an ambulance.

3. In the video, I imagine one went, and as often happens, the giant sudden increase of tension requirement in the other caused it to go, too.

4. Super-extreme tightness with wraps can hinder flexion/stretch ability.

5. Likely he was seriously overtrained from his peaking routine. Voila.

6. Same shit happened to powerlifting king-of-kings Ed Coan. Video’s on YouTube. Eddie recovered and again squatted 800-plus.

7. Poor guy. I feel very badly for him. As said, the psychological damage is the worst.

8. If you don’t think pushing the limits of human performance is cool, simply move along and get back to whatever it is that you DO think is cool. And if there’s nothing, you’re likely a female or have malfunctioning testicles.

P.S. Anabolic steroid use results, eventually, in very brittle connective tissue. This dramatically increases likelihood of tears/ruptures/catastrophic injury, etc.

That was almost a 45lb jump over his personal best which he also squatted at this meet. He's usually a high 700's - low 800's lifter. He was far and away the best squatter there, and wasn't chasing a record, so who knows why he chose that big a jump. His numbers -

He made TMZ -

But he's not making an omelette.  Extensive surgery, therapy and 12 months to heal.  Probably never squat heavy again.  The physiological damage is even worse... when he is all healed and gets under a bar, the first thing he will think is his tendons snapping off.

Whats the point of having spotters or any sort of safety cage/rack whatever in place if this can happen regardless

Maybe to stop the weight falling on the dude if he drops it for some reasons?

The spotters and safety harnesses must be for decoration purposes.

Honestly, the best spotters and equipment wouldn't have did much.  by the time the bar hits the pins/straps, etc...., the damage is already done.

Coan's similar injury -

.

Paul Jordan's, which is considered one of the worst in PL -

He tore everything around his knee, not just a knee. Immediately was taken to the hospital, underent a 6 hours operation. Doctor said he will have too lie motionless on bed 2 months.

I came across some commentary suggesting that you should lift in a meet the way you trained.  If there was no monolift at his gym but one at the meet, then he should have taken his steps as he would without a monolift.

I’ve never used a monolift, so I don’t know how easy or hard it is to use for the very first time.  If the dude trained with a monolift, then all that dancing around was just sloppy.

As usual, another “pro” who isn’t much of one when it comes to weight training.

His squatting, besides being embarrassingly shallow, looks wobbly and like shit.

Oh, and nice footwear ... for squatting. Not.
