Confirms my suspicion that most powerlifters are retards. Willingly stressing your body to stupid levels for essentially zero financial gain is a game only fools play

When I was young I looked up to powerlifters, but now in my mid-50's, I have to agree with this statement.

BTW, that sound was probably both patella tendons snapping off.

LOL!  That's classic :)

I'm not unsympathetic to this guy's horrific injury, but truly:  wtf was he thinking?  Had he ever squatted anywhere near that before?

Looked like double quad tears, possibly patellar tendons. Sucks for him. Will never be the same again.

Forget squatting heavy again.

Not necessarily true.
A good friend tore both quads off squatting over 900lbs
He came back after surgery & Squatted 1000lbs !! In competition.
Now Mentally that takes a hell of a lot to accomplish after such an horrific injury.

Admittedly I don't watch much power lifting, but why da fuk don't they use those strap type things everywhere? Great safety feature.

That you come back stronger after such an injury,

Isn't that more of an exception and not the norm?

Else, everyone would tear both quads just to be able to come back stronger.

Yes I’d very likely agree with you - Though it shows that it isn’t necessarily a career ender.
Probably not the best Route to take tearing off both quads I’d say.

This is why I always used light weights and high reps.  That looks like a really heavy weight! Ouch indeed!

1. I saw one-time Canadian pro BB Jason Marcovici do this on a Smith machine. Both went.

2. Heard shit snapping on another guy, at another gym, as well. Squatting. Then ... screaming. Left in an ambulance.

3. In the video, I imagine one went, and as often happens, the giant sudden increase of tension requirement in the other caused it to go, too.

4. Super-extreme tightness with wraps can hinder flexion/stretch ability.

5. Likely he was seriously overtrained from his peaking routine. Voila.

6. Same shit happened to powerlifting king-of-kings Ed Coan. Video’s on YouTube. Eddie recovered and again squatted 800-plus.

7. Poor guy. I feel very badly for him. As said, the psychological damage is the worst.

8. If you don’t think pushing the limits of human performance is cool, simply move along and get back to whatever it is that you DO think is cool. And if there’s nothing, you’re likely a female or have malfunctioning testicles.

P.S. Anabolic steroid use results, eventually, in very brittle connective tissue. This dramatically increases likelihood of tears/ruptures/catastrophic injury, etc.
